It would have come across better if she put it out there saying, won't you join me in this OPPORTUNITY to BE A PART of the Maui revival. Even if you don't have anything to send, for $1 or $5 your name will go on a commemorative book in front of a monument creation that will have the names of the fallen, TBA. The whole point of this then becomes i, Oprah, an putting together this fund to directly help families and if you want to be a part of this project, I'm including everyone so nobody feels left out and those who can't afford anything significant can sacrifice $5 as she is contributing 10 million. I think that's where she was short sided and out of touch with the reality of how the people are feeling hearing someone who can rebuild maui alone, certainly with the help of others who enjoy land in maui. I think the bigger issue i have is with Facebook, I want every single person to get out of Facebook, Instagram, just bury Zuckerberg. I think he is a huge POS. I think Oprah is unfairly absorbing this outcry. Like I said, she should have made everyone feel like, come be a part of this with me and maybe for a high enough donation you can help vote how the funds will be distributed. To make it inclusive as possible.

The basic price of commodities has tripled in my experience from 2019. The same 1 bedroom apartment I rented in Dallas for 700 dollars in 2017 is 1400 dollars in 2023. The house that would cost 180k in suburban DFW just 5 years ago costs 400k. The cost of home and car insurance is over the roof. All this in Dallas which is still very cheap compared to many other big cities in the USA.

In India, according to UN reports, there are at least 8-10 million people living in slavery; you still have a caste system that stigmatizes the "untouchables" here in the 21st century when truly civilized cultures have abolished both castes and slavery. On top of that, even with your population in excess of 1 billion people, a large proportion of whom are starving because your nation lacks the proper resources to feed, clothe and shelter all of them decently, your government is encouraging people to pump out even more children, who will then be sent to the US or UK or some other "privileged" country to take what wealth we may have as well.

The median individual incomes reported by the BLS and/or FED is already adjusted for the cost of living (inflation). It’s over 40% higher than it was 40-50 years ago. What’s happening is biggest ticket item people purchase (homes) has gone up but a big part of it is much bigger homes. People don’t notice as much they are paying a lot less (relative to income) on the majority of our goods and services because they tend to be smaller purchases each time. In addition, people just want more and more. A home from 1970 has a lot less in it then a home in 2023. Usually just one tv, one car often, fewer electronics and appliances, and far less clothes. People also didn’t spend much money traveling (didn’t long distances much) either so that saved them money. But the income inequality is certainly a problem.

It’s AVERAGE household. The poorer one is and or the more kids a household has, the higher the percentage of income goes to food. Middle class and above that are single or couple with no kids will spend a small percentage of their income on food. I think typical is $250-$300 per month per person (not including restaurants). For a single person no kids, $300/mo is $3.6k a year and 10% would be $36k annual income

At least you have good public transit to make up for it. America’s primary or default option is car ownership. If can’t afford it or you don’t live in place where alternatives are somewhat viable, then an auto loan is necessary, especially to commute to work.

Note on why Automobile prices are so high . Everyone is now an off-road enthusiast because of CAFE standards, EPA requirements. The Chicken Tax. The law of unintended consequences!! Government refuses to repeal laws that obviously backfired. SUV’s are exempt from CAFE standards and are so profitable for manufacturers. EPA requirements make it impossible to manufacture a high mileage pickup truck, compact car or sedan. The chicken tax is 25 % on imported trucks, even 25 year old used trucks. Repeal the stupid laws now

The US doesn't have a high tax burden. That's a lie. The highest taxes in US states are half that of my country the Netherlands. It's a low minimum wage problem and no social relief for the poor. Minimum wage is 2129.15 USD/Month in my country. In the US it's $1,218 per month. The GDP per capita is 58878.00 USD in the Netherlands and 80,034.58 USD in the US. Much higher in the US, but mostly owned by the ultra rich.

@Joey-ct8bm Taxes vary by state. Some place like California, Massachusets, and New York are cut throat for the highest brackets, which they pass on to their costumers, who happen to be in the lower brackets.

@@sblijheid "Some place like California, Massachusets, and New York are cut throat for the highest brackets, which they pass on to their costumers, who happen to be in the lower brackets." Except individual incomes taxes would have little impact on that. That would be corporate taxes. And it's still not a dollar of tax raise is a dollar more lower income will pay -- that dollar that needs to be recouped will be spread among the whole population.

I've lived in the Usa for 25 years..I own 3 rental houses, have a vacation home in nexico by the ocean, own my house in the USA...all this just with by being a construction worker managing my money.

housing markets grow too fast for people to keep up now. there's tons of available cheap housing in omaha, but that's not where jobs are relocating to. they all move to austin or miami in the span of five years where in other eras it would've taken ten years for markets to develop. so while big business can be dynamic like that and move bases on a whim, the local markets are a lot slower to adapt.

Since Biden took office, there seem to have been more unfavorable results in America. These results include effects on the markets, such as price declines and sharp increases in inflation, as well as bank failures. I wonder if the sudden increase in interest rates will help value investors or if it would be wiser to stay away from the stock and financial markets for the time being.

To "buy the dip" It will be profitable in the long run. However, investors should be wary of the bull run. It is advisable to connect with a skilled adviser to fulfill your growth objectives and prevent mistakes. High interest rates typically result in lower stock prices.

3D printed housing is one of the solutions to the high costs of contructing a house. According to a recent article in the World Economic Forum, 3D printed houses can cost up to 45% less than those built with traditional methods, by eliminating the need for expensive materials and labor. We also need to reform our zoning laws. Minneapolis, Arlington, Gainesville, Charlotte, Walla Walla, Washington, and other cities have reformed single-family zoning laws in recent years. Oregon, California, Washington, Montana and Maine have ended them statewide.

Union worker make it worse too. Since government buy them material at a higher price from union it increase the wage on union worker but everything gets expensive. John stossel video of a 2 million dollar restroom at a park. Due to city hiring union workers who wanted higher wage some got up to 100$ per hours. Took 7 years and 2 millions to complete due to union and bureaucracy. Yet a private company took 200k using the same material a few month to complete. Problems with unionized. They can't fired the employee especially if they suck seeing how teacher union aren't able to fire inept teacher they get pay regardless if little work is done. They do a crap ashat job. The majority believe TSA suck as they study past event and notice the amount of contraband and illegal weapon got smuggle in. When a private security firm did a test run at a actual airport and simulation test they had a higher rate of success compare to TSA a unionized government sector that you can't fire inept workers.

The problem these are having with Oprah and the Rock is jealousy. They both started with nothing. They took all the risk and the deserve what they have. Most middle class and poor people are afraid to take risks. Non dreamers live off the crumbs of dreamers. If you work at a job. The dreamer (owner) took all the risks. You are now there to benefit from their dreams. You can easily because rich over time. Live below your means and buy lost cost S and P 500 index funds. You get to profit from the 500 biggest dreamers of companies. Warren buffet suggests this all the time. Most won't do it but still want to complain. I bet they donated a way bigger percentage of their wealth than most of the middle class. Go figure.
