The Price of the American Dream | ENDEVR Documentary
Watch' The Broken American Dream' here: • The Broken American Dr...
Since the economic crisis of 2009, over nine million jobs have been created in America. Officially, the recession is over. But American workers have come out of the crisis more vulnerable and even poorer than ever. 46.7 million Americans live in poverty with around 15% of the US population living below the poverty line. But they aren’t unemployed - most of them have at least two jobs. They’re ‘the working poor’. Meet the people behind America’s economic recovery.
Germania has two minimum wage jobs, working 18 hours a day. Three quarters of a her salary go on paying for the 15m square motel room she shares with her two children and her mother-in-law. But even with two jobs, she struggles to buy food for her family. In the past four months, they have stayed in five motels, moving every few weeks to ever cheaper rooms as their money runs out.
Joe and Chelsie live with their two young daughters in a tent in a church carpark. Their bathroom is a porta-potty they share with 50 other people. Around 500 families in Seattle live in these temporary camps. Like Germania, Chelsie works full time but she can no longer afford to live in the city she works in.
Trade Union leader, Scott Slawson, has worked for General Electric for 13 years. But a few days ago, he was told his job will be re-located to a state with no wages and 50% lower salaries. He doesn’t know if he will be able to find another job.

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

Asking for advice or assistance from a consultant or investment coach is the best line of action if you lack market understanding. Even though it sounds cliche or apparent, talking to a consultant has helped me stay afloat in the market and increase my portfolio to roughly 65% since January 2023. That, in my opinion, is now the most successful strategy for entering the market.

In LA, a number of the working poor sleep overnight every night on those buses before clocking into work..... Then spend most of the day working only to go to sleep on a bus and repeat this cycle over and over again just to sleep in a place safer than a tent. Then you have to get off the bus when it reaches the last stop and walk to the bus stop and wait for the next bus. I've had to experience that before when I worked as a dishwasher at a restaurant on Hollywood Blvd....

Born and raised in the US. My family went from average middle class to lower middle class in a span of only 15 years. Grew up with both parents together, but never got to see my dad because he was a truck driver and was gone for weeks at a time. Even with his ridiculous amount of hours he worked, my family still lived paycheck-to-paycheck, and sometimes didn't even make enough to cover the bills. He also had gone through being laid off a few times. My family was lucky enough to have inherited a house from my great-grandmother. Otherwise, who knows where we would have lived. My heart goes out to these poor people. It's truly a struggle to be the commonfolk in America.

The picture that you pointed out is now headed toward white-collar workers who were in roles that used to be somewhat immune to job loss. Now accountants, managers, IT people are losing jobs, because their work in many cases now can be outsourced to low wage places, where workers will do the same work for half the salary. it is a race to the bottom economically, companies move to low wage places until wages start to rise in those places, then the move to the next low wage place, there is no loyalty to the workers that helped those companies build brandnames and grow wealthy..

The Silent Depression: Worse than the Great Depression from 2007 to current; the average salary from 1930 for an average American individual was $4900( adjusted for inflation $85,000 annually for one person) as of 2023 the average salary is $56,000 annually, making less than the height of the Great Depression. In 1930 Gasoline was 10 cents a gallon or $1.73 adjusted for inflation, today the average is $3.55. To buy a new car in 1930 it would be $860- worth about 15k adjusted for inflation, today is worth a whopping $48,000. Key to the American Dream to buy a house in 1930 would be about $3900- less than 70k today, the average price today? $416,000. This is no secret, and nobody is saying a thing.

@shootingdutch The cost of housing has gone up not because there are too many humans. In fact if you look at the birth rate of each country. The birth rate has been on a decline for years. After the housing crisis in 2007 when millions of folks foreclosed on homes. Investors started buying these foreclosed home on the cheap. On top of that they continue to buy family homes because this allowed Investors to control & raise the market rate on rent and leave less homes on the housing market to purchase. Then families are still competing for these homes with Investors who can pay cash for the home so this leaves more people who should be buying home they end up renting much longer because of supply/demand. What makes this whole thing worse in 2009 when all these countries including the U.S did bailouts for large corporations. The citizens paid for it! This is when the shift began with the shift of money going towards the wealthy. With higher home cost, higher rent, inflation, cheaper labor. Add Air Bnb's to the housing leaving less available to purchase. Again leaving more folks to rent. Plus who wants to rent and have children? Most educated folks don't & won't. If war breaks out and WW3 happens guess who has to fight for this war? Not the wealth cause the governments will offer the lower class money to fight in war and they will take it if....they aren't homeless and addicted to opioid/fentenyl.

This issue has been exacerbated by the practices of insurance companies, which can have negative effects as well. Some insurance companies may contribute to rising prices by providing coverage that encourages risky lending and speculation. Additionally, certain insurance policies can be expensive, making it even more challenging for families to secure affordable properties. It's important for individuals tor consider diversifying their income streams, independent of government reliance, as a wise approach in the current situation.

Boycotting doesn't really work anymore. There's like 7 big companies that own every other company. If you think ur boycotting a brand by going with their competitors, ur usually just supporting a different brand thats owned by the same parent company. These huge conglomerates just keep buying up more and more businesses, the wealth is owned in fewer and fewr hands and its more of a monopoly every year. Even if you do find a competitor not owned by that parent company, theyre usually just as bad because they have to be in order to stay competitive. Capitalism rewards lying, cheating , stealing and exploitation, and punishes those businesses that try to maintain a higher moral ground

The problem with what you're saying is you're putting the responsibility for a person thriving outside of that person. It's our responsibility to thrive, and to do so requires self reliance, not a society infrastructure. This ain't to say society isn't destructive and evil in its current state, but it is to say you're unhappiness at the root is this idea you have that it's society's responsibility. you've subconsciously committed to perpetuating that society's modus operandi by relying on it, thus you're ironically perpetuating the very evil you complain about. What I'm driving at here is we need relative health, food, shelter and friends. That's all happiness and thriving requires, everything else is an illusion including any roadblocks you see preventing you from food, shelter and friends. Nothing stops you or anyone from going off establishing a homestead or being nomadic herders with a group of like minded companions and starting your own society. Your unhappiness lies in the fact you cannot create an adhoc connection to some existing perfect society which will deliver an appropriate allotment of happiness to your doorstep on a monthly basis. People like you need to understand that your pursuit of some utopian society that has systemically conquered poverty and is equally beneficial to all is what ends up removing freedoms and enslaves us. Stop focusing outside yourself, focus on you, fix that and then work your way out and pull others into your orbit. Stop trying to find some pre-existing social construct to identify with, make your own

The most significant change I made was leaving South Georgia, where I was born and raised, after working for 7 years in a warehouse, earning only $17k annually with minimal raises. The living costs were too high, and the healthcare was subpar. I decided to pursue my dream of working in information technology. After almost a year of daily job applications, facing unprofessional employers and ghosting, and recruiters making false promises, I finally landed a job out of state in the Midwest. this is the kind of content i came to the comment section for, you were in a bad position but you worked hard to get out of it, congratulations, if you want to build security and make future job searches a chance to move up further heres the best advice ive ever gotten, i strongly suggest getting linkedin and connecting with everyone you meet professionally, its like playing adult pokemon (gotta catch em all) but the more you build your network in your specialty (like IT) the more visible you are to recruiters (because your friends likely know the recruiters), that way if you ever decide you want to move or get fired/layed off or even want to move up with experience you just switch your settings to be looking for work visible to recruiters, once you build your network big enough you can practice your profession almost anywhere in the country and job hunting is much easier, another lifehack about job interviews i wish i was told as a teenager, dont go in there thinking "i hope i get it" go in there thinking "they would miss out so much not hiring me i have so much to offer them" it gives you more confidence on the surface,
