I actually think Luna Rossa are the dark horses, they always seem smooth and fast but it's hard to overlook the Kiwis being their design and hours spent in one.

I thought that this was a very interesting discussion. My personal thought is that all the teams have crew who are legitimately operating at this level, some with 'super stars' some not. Additionally 'time on the event water' matters. So my conclusion is that the teams that will prevail will not necessarily have 'super stars' on board, but the best 'team co-ordination and trust', and time on the water in the race conditions will count. So ETNZ, Alinghi, Luna Rossa, INEOS, AM, Orient Express. I won't be right, because this is sport, but I like my choices.

Ashby in the boat and running the rig was a vital ingredient in ETNZs success - no matter how it was played down. If he’s not on the boat its all up for grabs.

What a shambolic display from INEOS! Has Sir Ben lost his touch? Whilst it was truly fantastic to see them win the latest SailGP round. Sadly I can't help thinking that would not have happened if Team NZ had not lost their wing! Also, WOW - Hannah Mills what a great addition to the Team.

I wonder if well revisit these picks in 6 months' time when it will be getting a bit more serious and there'll be some real signs of who is travelling best in our various opinions! Right now I can't see past the Kiwis either with their preparations and time in the boat, even if most of that has been in Auckland. But, remember San Francisco!

Really enjoying your videos, giving another perspective on the America's cup. You guys should tackle Sail GP commentary is terrible, would be good to have you guys debrief or even provide an alternative commentary. People could have your RU-vid live running for audio while watching sail GP. Just a thought.

I just read an interview with Bruni in Seahorse where he said Tita was now focusing on his Nacra campaign for Paris 24. But he is names in the sailor squad for Vilanova next week.

Is sailing an AC40 much different from sailing a LEQ12? Is the autopilot the main difference or the custom control systems and software of the prototypes?

Steve = different 🤔😆 They can be very different. I have a video on the changes to the rules regarding controls, but they have some interesting opportunities to link control systems in the new rules, which I imagine they would try out on their LEQ12. Generally the physics are pretty similar to a full size AC75 and the general principles of how to mode boats. But, the way that is achieved could be different enough to make the AC40s very different

@@MozzySails …..my thinking was that if BA does the AC40 and doesn’t do well (none of you had INEOS down as doing that well), then that would also not be good for him, and his focus is very much on the AC now, & maybe not so much the ‘side show’ (if you can call these amazing AC40’s a ‘side show’!). After watching Tom thoroughly dominate SailGP, it is hard to dismiss any entry he may helm. Many of the helms mentioned here were/are helms in SailGP. Outteridge, DeLaPierre, Ainslie, Spithill and Slingsby. In the perfectly matched F50s, Tom Slingsby manages to find a way to win. That is, not just win, but dominate. I think that crosses over to this upcoming event.

AM/ETNZ too close to call but my heart says NZ, Luna Rossa old age and cunning, Alinghi purely for hours in the boat, INEOS if they sail the boat rather than argue with the umpire, Orient.

If you add up the absolute value of the difference between each team's predicted place and their actual place then all three Mozzy commentators were in error by a total of 8 places. And so was I. And @michelBina also! Or, maybe the errors should be squared, I dunno. Almost everyone vastly underestimated Orient, and we all overestimated INEOS. For the record, the actual results AM, NZ, Orient, Luna Rossa, Alinghi, INEOS.

I hope for Luna Rossa. I´m fun of ETNZ but they have been champs a few times. Now is the time for Luna Rossa. The next one for ETNZ, and the next Alinghi. No US that they have too many and de English... just no.

My only concern with ETZ is that they have been surprisingly poor in Sail GP. I think if ETZ wobble, it'll be AM to win.

What makes you say that? NZ SailGP Team (*not* ETNZ, as Emirates sponsor GBR in SailGP) came a very close 2nd to Australia last season, and have won one of the two events so far this season. At one point last season they won seven races in a row at three events (Plymouth, Copenhagen, Saint-Tropez) which I don't think anyone else has come close to doing.

I'd agree. The first season in SailGP when they were still 49er sailing was a bit mixed and they didn't live up to exceptions. But this was explained by the F50 used in SailGP being more similar to the Oracle and Artemis AC50s and very different from the ETNZ AC50 with cyclors. Last season obviously they came second and this year they've won an event.

1st equal after three races in Saint-Tropez is not a bad result. Romped away with the first race, started last in the other two and worked their way up to 6th and 5th. I sometimes wonder if they just like having overtaking practice... Can't see them sailing tomorrow :-(

He is sailing with Alinghi, but just can't race for them (as far as I know). But I guess ETNZ could have picked him up instead of Nathan. As good as Phil is, is he better than Nathan?

@@MozzySailsThat's a really good question. I was a little disappointed that he wasn't sailing in GP anymore as I thought he did a fantastic job for the Japanese team. I'm glad to see he's sailing for his home country. I do think that Slingsby is going to be formidable in the AC. Though it's going to be tough to match the tech of NZ. I really enjoyed your discussion.

Its the boat speed performance in the finals that will determine the AC winner. Everything is else is irrelevant, the fastest boat always wins regardless of who crews and helms. As F1 shows its not whom is at the wheel its the car performance package
