America's Killer Next-Gen Submarine with a Weird-Looking Stern

It’s 2045, and beneath the waves of the American coast, as the waters heat up with conflict reminiscent of 100 years before, a group of Columbia-class submarines, the world's most advanced submarine, move silently but with purpose.
Suddenly, intelligence comes in-a rival nation has launched a surprise assault, and one of the Columbias is the closest asset, already in position, unseen, and ready. With a command, the submarine adjusts its course, utilizing her pièce de résistance, an X-shaped stern for rapid, agile maneuvering through the underwater terrain that would challenge any other vessel.
In moments, they're in position. The captain gives the order, and Columbia’s missile tubes come to life, once held in reserve for a moment everyone hoped would never come.
With America at a crossroads, the skies have the vigilance of strategic bombers. On the ground, an array of land-based missiles stands ready to respond at a moment's notice.
But America’s one true powerhouse guardian lies in the ocean's depths.

The X design was "pioneer" by the Swedish Navy only if you ignore the very successful experimental USS Albacore which was refitted with X stern planes in 1962. By all accounts the X configuration proved very effective, but was seen by many as to "radical". She can be seen, still in the X configuration, at the USS Albacore Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

@@bBersZ At 2.12 he describes the work done by the Swedish Kockums shipyard which occurred much later than the operation of the Albacore. I searched the transcript but nowhere can I find any mention of the US Navy (and DARPA) operation and testing of the Albacore. The US Navy has "leased" Swedish Gotland class submarines for evaluation and testing. For more information than you probably want to know on the subject, you might start with "Submarine Hydrodynamics" 2nd Edition by Martin Renilson and the various DARA papers.

I had the privilege of going aboard a brand new Los Angeles class submarine many years ago while in Hawaii. My friend was an XO on a boomer and he asked me if I wanted to see a new sub. Well you can count me in. I went to the Pearl Harbor Naval Station and SubPac. And walked what seemed like kilometers of slipways with Submarines tied up everywhere. We walked up to the boat and he shouted some Navy jargon and a submariner came up out of this large hatch. There was an armed guard standing at the ramp and at the hatch opening holding M-16’s and looking pretty serious until my friend made himself known and the deck officer was greatly pleased to show off his brand new boat. I stepped onto the rubberized surface and climbed down into the belly of that beast. It took us to a holding area or chamber where many hallways and other hatches were to go left, right and further down into the boat. We turned left towards the stern and the forward torpedo room. Lots of weapons in there. Many cruise missiles. I asked if they were Nuclear tipped. They could neither confirm nor deny that information and the guard said if they told me they would have to shoot me. I had the time of my life looking all over the place asking questions that they answered quite frankly but extremely reserved. I knew I was only getting spoon fed what they could for a civilian. Then we went into the control room where everything happens. The Periscope, the Radar and Sonar stations. The weapons fire control station, the drivers seats and a freaking ton of electronics. To get their dolphins they have to understand every system on board. So the officer on duty was a young feller about 19 yrs old explaining to me how the targeting systems work and he flipped all the leather covers off the screens for Radar and it showed the Hawaiian Islands in their full glory. Each island was clear as a bell using satellite data and the onboard Radar. Impressive. Then I got to see the life support equipment, galley, sleeping quarters and everything but the Reactor and engine room. Which I of course asked to see and they thought that was funny. As we were leaving the boat I mentioned that everything I saw was of exceptional quality despite the confined quarters, it was a very livable environment. And as we passed some especially beautiful manufacturing my friend reminded me and as his Admiral told him to understand that the sub was built Low Bid. Ah dang. Still, America builds tough and safe military equipment. I also noted that as a person who is 6’6” tall, that boat wasn’t built for me. Thanks for listening. A day I will never forget. Hermit.

No free weights, all machines, rather small space with three machines. My son is an officer on an Ohio class boat and he said the gym is rather terrible and that very few people on his crew use it on the boat.
