In this segment of my driving tours of Hickory, NC I focus on the south side of the city - including the countryside just below Interstate 40. If you are looking for a more relaxed area to move to - perhaps with some land for gardening or animals - then this area might be right for you. I go down Startown Road, Sandy Ford Road, and other southside byways over to the Mountain View community. You'll see a lot of churches and industrial sites in this video. Primarily it's a close look at the residential areas.

Hi Tony, I am thinking of moving down to Hickory but I really like more of a mountain area with forest surroundings like where I am in Lake George, NY (Adirondack Mts.) area. Just can't take the winter cold anymore and snow. I need to be near people that have rustic style homes because I make furniture for log homes, post & beam homes . I make rustic hickory furniture. The name of my business is Adirondack Rustic Design. It seems you know the area and maybe you could do some driving in the mountain areas if possible. I will be coming down in April to look at this area. Hope it is near hospitals since I am 72 I like to be near one. Thank you for the video and your time. Richard

Good video, some great scenery. I have a question and I know people don't like to mention politics but my family and I are considering moving to the Hickory area if we can get jobs in the area and we wanted to know is the area lean conservative or liberal? We live in SC now and heard lockdowns were bad in NC during the virus, was it bad up there? Thanks.

Hickory has changed so much in the past 20 years. Parts of it I don't even recognize and I live here. It's nice to learn more about Hickory and not have to spend any gas money. :) Edit: it would be great if you could do a tour of all the different parks in Hickory. I walk for exercise and my photography hobby and would love to see a general overview of all the parks. It might take several videos to cover them all but would be very interesting.

Thank you for the video, Hickory is beautiful and you seem like a really nice guy! We enjoy watching your videos. I am from Germany and my (american) husband and I are thinking about moving to Hickory in a few years. We currently live in Utah and are just overwhelmed by the prices and people. I also miss having green/trees around me (there are tons in Germany) and don't like the snow. So I would love to see more about Hickory, like parks, are there any lakes (?), is it kid-friendly etc.? Thank you so much! 😊

Hey - yes, many parks. Lake Hickory, Lake Norman, Lake James are all either here or very close. I think it's a great place to raise a family.
