I was 7 when I first heard this song when it came out, heard it on the radio a couple of years ago and my whole world came flooding back. It's a great song.
This music was "old" when I started dating my wife back in 1992... Marriage, 3 kids and 32 years later(2024), we still listen to it ! When all the people (including the musicians) can enjoy Gods given freedom, eternal pearls like this are composed. Humans need freedom in order to reflect the part of Gods character, in this case music creation, that they are allotted to...
The 1970s and 1980s would have not been complete without America. This song is an 80's classic. So many memories of my very early 20's. Timeless music. The music artists of today will never come even close to this perfection.
Here it is almost August of 2024 and I'm still listening to this and remembering the words/chords just as if I heard them yesterday for the first time. 54 years old and you know what the magic is here? Remembering the first time I heard this as a kid, closing my eyes and seeing myself laying in bed with this playing on the radio on my bedside table; me being 12 years old again. How is THAT for magic?
I think it’s one of the best songs ever created. It can be heard in a loop, easy to sing, neither too slow nor too fast, it speaks of love on several levels of reading, and more than anything: it is timeless.
@@renjii1758 I don't know. I like the song too, but Samwise might be more right than wrong. Take a quick look at the band "Coven," which also came out of Laurel Canyon just like these pretentious pretty boys.
I can easily say that the best thing about being old right now is that we got to experience the late 20th century. It'll just never be beat in terms of exciting new entertainment. Especially music.
@@Laidengizer011 The 60's and 80's. America, especially this song just is so beautiful how they are in sync with vocal's and body movements. What also makes them stand out is they are innocently being HOT! Much Blessings to them and family!
Always loved this song. Went to Vegas last summer and this was played in almost every casino. Now I can't stop listening to it. These dudes are legends,
America is very underrated!!!!! One of my favorite bands....it's just a statement..what's up with all these personal shots at me? I love this band.. literally have them on my personal playlist w bands like bread .england Dan ..Paul Davis..firefall...taking personal shots at ppl for there statement or opinion is overrated 😂 have a good day ' America'
Absolutely right - definitely underrated ...... their discography is amazing and Maybe they didn't wreck hotel rooms on tour, flash their junk at women, or get into fights!!!!
@djj: Geez where were you during their peak popularity and by whose standards are they underrated? America in the 70s was definitely NOT underrated. Their music was ubiquitous and they were lauded for their unique sound. ❤❤❤
"You Can Do Magic" is a song by singer-songwriter Russ Ballard that was recorded as a 1982 single by folk rock duo America from their album View from the Ground.
I'm 27 and I went to see them live yesterday in Tunica, Mississippi. Man they've still got it. Opening it with "Tin Man" and closing it with "Horse with no name". just wow!!!!!! We used to listen to them in a Radio speaker back in India with my brothers and seeing them live yesterday was just the dream man!!!. Probably me and my friend were the only one's in our 20's when the whole crowd was 50,60+ lol. The beer was good and so was the music!!!!!

@illuminator777 Oh, little man, did I disturb your imaginary world where Magic and Magick are different? Little man, hush now. Adults are talking. Hush
You cant beat true talent, not regurgitated music , original and magical music each song has a message , love these guys from an 80s lady, they will never age and their message will always ressonate ...
America - "You Can Do Magic" (Official Music Video) This is one of my all time favorites from this group. This is such a awesome song. Love this video. It's a very catchy tune. I never get tired of playing this song. Great memories....
Great song, I remember the part where they sing "and if I wanted to, I could never be free" really got to me, I miss the days when pop music sounded like this, I consider 1975 to 1984 to be the best era of pop music
Thank you Mr Flores(my 3rd grade teacher) not only did you not give up on a bunch of low life’s that came from bad backgrounds but you also introduced many of us including myself to great music. I will never forget and will forever appreciate what you did for me and my brother
What a wonderful post! I am a teacher as well so this is extra special for me. I am sure you and your friends had a positive impact on Mr. Flores as well.
Late 1970's at the town pool in a small midwest American town on a warm summer day, America playing on the pool speakers for the teenage lifeguards. I was around 10 years old and the summer seemed long - no school in sight, there was nothing but the pure freedom of childhood and summer play, tomorrow and the next days would be the same, as far as my youthful eyes could see. I can remember that feeling of blissful freedom, but I will never experience it again. This band and a few others are tangled up in those good memories.
@@larrydavid6575 Thanks for the invite to walk down memory lane. Let's see... I remember Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Paul McCartney and Wings, Heart, Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffett, REO Speedwagon, Steve Miller Band, the Who. The 70's were great for pop music. Since then its been a horror show, imho. Cheers!
I hear you. Lost my younger only brother. 1979-2002. It's weird this music brings me back to when I had a brother. So sorry for your loss. God bless you.
It is a great song💥💖, but if you're talking of the entire time of the 80s ,THEN yeah there were lots of screaming, yelling, dirty lyrics going on in that time period by the metal bands & rappers ,so it wasnt a simpler time ,just a cooler music genre, like cool jazz & funk or classic...beautiful tune though👍🏼💓
You know darn well, when you cast spell, you'll get your way, when you hypnotize with your eyes, a heart of stone will turn to clay. NOBODY WRITES SO ELOQUENTLY LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!!
America !! "A Horse With No Name" and "You Can Do Magic", "Sister Golden Hair "....💥💥💥 Also can't forget "Tin Man" and "Muskrat Love". My teen and early 20s were blessed with music like this. Was never ashamed to tell anyone I loved this stuff 😍
This is one of my favorites songs from the many thousands that I have heard across 55 years of living. Also there is something about this video that is so attractive to watch. A fine group of musicians and singers who look like real men who create world class music.
Today's music airwaves is desperately lacking in this type of music. Music that is raw, melodic, emotionally uplifting, and resonates with our feelings.
Heck today music most lacks anything good in it, musicians who lack any talent except the ability to scream in to a microphone or cuss and call that good music.
. . . check out Alizee or Joyce Jonathan. . .quality music has a universal sound. . . you don't have to speak or understand French. . .but you, if you are open to new sounds, can sense and feel the pure magic in the next generations and their transcending music that will blow away stuff from the 20th century. . just wait a decade or so. . .(the comments above are IMHO) & the fact that historically all music evolves, changes & progresses into new sounds & genres by observing & practicing the previous generations works AND then thru hard work, some luck & inner inspiration from their selves or their friends take music to the next level. . . have faith that things WILL improve & get better. . .the BEST is yet to come. . .
They were brilliant. Pity they dont make bands like this anymore. We had the best era of music and are so grateful. You legends rock and are definitely magic.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our brother and beloved drummer of 41 years. "Willie (Leacox) was an integral part of the America family and we cherish the time that we shared with him through this crazy journey." Rest easy, Willie Leacox. Your drumming was excellent. 🙏🏽
Just 5 guys on a stage with guitars and drums, no fancy clothes or fancy anything but yet this is one of the best bands to ever exist! there are so many from this era but these guys are way up in the top and best of the best!
@@DJKinney U have a point but when compared 2 Elton John, America's DEFINITELY UNDERR8D!!!!!! I base it on their similar musicals styles & chart success. Since the MAJORITY of America's members r from England (& the fact that America & Elton John r classified as "soft rock/pop", America was the far superior talent but Elton John got the accolades. There4, the term "underr8d" RE: America is very accur8 indeed.
I'm 28 and have always loved America. Dad is a classic rock and easy listening kinda guy. This type of music is so soothing. Although many of my age don't understand it or appreciate. But this is pure gold ♡

My favorite America song of all time is "Horse with No Name," about the foray in the desert. This song is number two for me. What an AWESOME GROUP with timeless appeal!
I was in Quito 🇪🇨😃 at Casa de la Cultura during the 90s listening the wonderful concert. This tune, Ventura Highway and close with A horse with no name.... They spoke some Spanish and it was SO good memories.... Love América 🇺🇸
