Many carnivores do not like to eat them because they are too small and have a thick retractable skin not worth an effort. I like wolverines so much. I like their aggressiveness and speed and they are ferocious. Badgers are overstated by memes but in general all weasels are pretty though for their size. Most animals prefer to avoid serious injuries because that can attract other predators and it likely also means they won't be able to hunt properly until they recover (if they do at all). A broken limb most certainly means death. this is why most predators prefer taking smaller things that can't fight back too aggressively. a lot of predators will back down from prey if they can sense serious injury incoming

I'd put my money on felines for that category. Badgers, and their related cousins are very tough, but the cats rule where ever they are found. Honey badgers regularly get eaten by lions and leopards. A bear can destroy an American badger if it is actually hunting one - which they don't usually because other food is less argumentative about giving it up. Just watch a real bear fight for terrotory or a female. No badger would survive that. All predators would rather go after something that is the least risky. Bears toy with badgers. So do lions unless they are hungry. If they are, it's game over for the badger. Tigers eat very large bears in Siberia and sun bears in India. Sun bears are the worst tempered of all the bears, and nothing to mess with. Cats are pound for pound the strongest, quickest, bring most weapons, agility, and stamina of all predators. Even the lowly house cat is very formidable in defense against racoons, all but the largest and boldest dogs, and against other cats - which are the Number One danger to any house cat - not coyotes or racoons.

My grandfather always said,if a badger was even the size of a coyote nothing would mess with it..even though there small,most predators realize it's just not worth it essentially when there's easier prey around.
I mean Coyotes and Badgers actually hunt together probably what it was, is the Coyote wanted to see if the badger was hunting a rabbit to see if it could snag the rabbit if it slipped out past the badger. It's a common hunting practice for the two. The coyotes takes a badger to a hole they believe is occupied and send the badger it to get it. If the badger does get it then it gets a home and food. If not it gets a home and the coyotes get a chance to catch the fleeing animal outside.

It’s possible that the badger was trying to dig down to reach a squirrel. If it did find one the coyote would 🐿 then chase the squirrel, it being much easier prey and requiring much less exertion to kill than a badger 🦡 which might kill the coyote, or seriously injure it.

In general they would not go for one because it might mean injury, but if they were hungry and the other possible outcome is death.....the Badger would be killed. Period.

Don't be fooled, if a coyote is hungry enough they will be the winner in a death match. Wolves and coyotes have badgers in their diet as "if I have to"food. These two clearly didn't "have to" and the badger wasn't worth the possibility of injury.
