My German mom told me that 'Dachshund' literally means 'badger dog' in German. When I look at my dachshunds I can't believe that they were specifically bred to enter badger dens and flush them out. (It of course required a pack of them against one badger.)

That is crazy, I have a dog that I adopted from a loved one, and when I saw the face on this badger; I was like this badgers snout resembles my dogs snout. Thought it was just a coincidence. My dog is adorable, BUT! I am sure he is a breed of a pointer. Ohh my gosh, now I gotta see more information about the Dachshunds being bred for those specifics. Sheds new light on the ability of the Dachshund breed. Well Wishes Thank You Sir.

My wife's got bigger claws than this badger's if that counts, and her temper's even worse. She's nocturnal and can smell alcohol at three in the morning, forcing me to sometimes sleep in my car with doors locked for my own survival.

It's so cute! And so different than the badgers I'm used to seeing here in Denmark.. My parents live somewhere where we get to see badgers in the backyard all the time.. They usually come out at night, but when the cherry trees produce cherries they actually come during the day. Just this year, I saw five badgers all at once, including two babies

Sometimes the badgers and cats in the area will start a war in our area. Chasing eachother around. Its almost dangerous to take the dogs out to do their thing, because you never know when they will smell a badger and run off to get wrecked.

I love the way he treats her. ;-; Even when he just gives her a little spook just to show off some threat behaviors, he doesn’t push too hard and lets her come down and get comfortable around him again on her own terms. Coyote truly admires and respects these animals.

We had one in our yard tonight. It took on the German Shepard and the Livestock Guardian Dog. We heard the GSD crying so she must've got too close. We put the dogs away and took some pics and let it go on it's way. Such a cool encounter.

My dad grew uo in Boulder. His brother lived in Butte for years. My grandma went to Butte when she finally left Whitehall. My aunt's family owned a lot of the movie theaters in the area. Deer Lodge, Whitehall, etc. I got carsick going over Harding Way after a big BBQ at Uncle Jim's. The pillow I barfed on is still out there somewhere. In 1965. I was eight. Thanks for sparking memories!

For claw size, coupled with potential danger from the claws, my suggestion is the giant anteater. Plowing through dirt is one thing...but tearing through rock-like termite mounds is a whole different level of natural claw power.

I think it was the camera angle that made it look like the badger was sniffing dirt. If not maybe it blows out before it breathes in so the dirt isn't at its nose. Or really if I smelled rice it wouldn't go up my nose so maybe the dirt won't go up its nose!

The giant armadillo has pretty impressive claws. Up to 8 inches for a 36 in long critter is pretty insane.

The first animal that comes to mind when I think of incredible claw size is definitely the Malayan Sun bear. With 4-5 inch long claws, sun bears are incredible climbers that also use these claws to dig up dirt and get into beehives so they can get their favorite snack.

Coyote and I have a lot in common. Ever since I was a kid I was fascinated with Badgers, and the first badger I ever saw was running across the freeway in Wyoming. The second one and last one I saw was standing next to its hole beside the freeway in Wyoming.

I have also raised a badger in captivity. My badger was from the Bozeman area as well! They are are misunderstood as aggressive and they aren't. They are defensive and if raised by humans, they are sweet as can be!

Brown bear claws are definitely no joke. But the animal is huge compared to its claws too. I'm impressed by the claws of a giant anteater. Sure they have a silly looking face, but their front claws are so long that they walk on their knuckles and that claw reaches their wrist. Termite mounds are nearly as hard as rock and they rip those things open with their claws like they were made of wet clay.
