Airdate: April 1, 1967
Here are a few nice, clear shots of the '67 AB dancers clapping along with Freddy. I spotted Stan Soburn, Jeff Stein, Theodosia Dayton, Bernie Kates, Diana Bower, Rick Kline, Leonard Smith, Sue Rose, Famous Hooks and Frank Vanderpuil. In a few minutes Frank and Judy Michaud will win the 1967 Swing Dance Contest. (Don Sanuskar is here somewhere too but probably just out of frame)
On occasion, like today, the show had to leave Prospect Studios and tape down the street at The Vine Street Theater where they had stadium seats. Some of the kids preferred them over the bleachers and some thought they were too hard to get up from to dance.
At the very end, Dick is being told to wrap it up as The Turtles are on stage and about to sing their new song "Happy Together". Freddy Cannon is past his heyday here but was always a fun guest. This is Freddy's second-to-last appearance on Bandstand. His final appearance was in August, 1974.
Gary @jthyme and I are still Searchin' Searchin' for more material to share. Thanks for sticking around and thanks for watching!

We also see Mark Santos, Steve Roderick, Laura Bravo and her long-time partner, George whateverhisnameis... and Frank Di Virgilio in the upper right corner. In addition to several familiar-but-anonymous faces. When the kids are sitting still, it's easier to see just how young they were.

Shortly after this, he recorded a surprisingly good and heavy-hitting cover version of the Doors album track '20th Century Fox' that got him featured as a performer on an episode of the short-lived Summer '67 replacement program Malibu U, hosted by Rick Nelson, who both had the unfortunate reputation at the time of being somewhat 'has-been' acts, alongside some of the other performers featured on Malibu U such as James Darren, Bobby Rydell, and Leslie Gore.

AARON!!! So good to have you back, and with quite a gem too! This must be a special episode. The feel is different & you can see the beginnings of the styles changing with the hair & clothing. Also, a videotape copy? Geez, you've gotta post more from this episode, Aaron. I just have a feeling this one is quite special! This is not a bad song by Freddie. It's actually a perfect mix of old & late 60s "current", meaning he's singing in his old surfer style to a more current sounding track. It works, but I guess because it's him singing it & not a more newer artist, it kinda falls flat (no pun intended on the song's title... or maybe yes? Lol). I would love to see his August '74 performance, but... 🤷🏽‍♂️ we already know... I sure hope you've been doing well, my friend. You & Jeff have crossed my mind several times recently. This journey together has been long & soooooooo much fun!!! I can't wait to continue this trip with you & all the AB friends I've made. Be well, buddy & thanks again for this!!! (Goes to watch it again so I can be a geek...) P.S.: You made 100k subs, congrats!!!!! This is just proof that this stuff will outlive us. Great job, man!!!

Nice clip. It's nice to sometimes see the dancers not in dance mode with the moving, spinning etc. Sitting with the longer camera shots allows us a long look at them and I believe another side of their personality shows through. I notice many dancers here from other episodes that have yet to be identified by name. I sure hope many of these dancers themselves or their families find these videos. It would have to be such a treat for them. And on that note thanks again to Aron and Gary for bringing us these clips.

I hope Bernie Kates' sister sees this video. Bernie's featured prominently. It's heartbreaking that he and Frank Di Virgilio both died at such young ages.

@@yossarian6799 Hi yossarian. I have seen Bernie’s sister comment on at least one other video where she told what happed to Bernie. Really devastating stuff. I hope she does see him again here in this clip. As sad as it is so many of these dancers who have passed even more so the ones taken at a young age as you mentioned. Another you could add to that is Roni Menacker. Sometimes when watching her having so much fun dancing I suddenly remember she will not have a long life and You’re right,it is heartbreaking.
@yossarian6799
@yossarian6799 Год назад
@@bradsense7431 I knew Roni had passed, but did not know she passed young. Frank Vanderpuil was only in his 30s... I guess that's young. I guess I'm sensitive to the issue because my youngest brother, Nick, was murdered at age 21. His birthday is this week (he'd be 46) and thankfully we have a treasure trove of family photographs and hours of home movies to remember him. I'll never forget his See-N-Say toy that would get stuck between Coyote and Rooster. "The Coy-ooster says...." Funny how you remember the silliest things... -- Donovan --
@bradsense7431
@bradsense7431 Год назад
@@yossarian6799 that is terrible about your brother Nick. The photos, videos and stories you share about Nick with your family members who came after will be a way to keep his memory alive, help them feel like they know him and really a way to honor him. As for Roni, If I recall correctly Don said she passed in her mid-thirties from health issue.

Suddenly I feel nostalgic. Not for the '60s but for the times when we had weekly and semi-weekly clips. How's the weather been where you're at? Board any planes lately? Here in the bay area the temps barely topped 90 but triple digits are bound to be coming. Looking forward to more clips no matter how long the wait.
@YCDTI
@YCDTI Год назад
Ha, ha yes, but fortunately not THAT plane. I sure hope they make some formal policy about max time a plane can sit at high temps without taking off. Inhumane and it could’ve been any of us Another record breaker here today. You know it’s bad when they refer to 109 next week as a “cooldown” lol 🥵 Anyways, thank you for your kind words Keith. I’d love to get back to those days of nostalgic yesteryear when I was posting weekly. 😃
