My wife is Greek, from Pireaus. The kindest, gentle, calmest person. Classic book reader. Until Olympiacos plays basketball, she loses her mind. Cursing, screaming at the TV. I am a football fan, I see why. It's nice to see her go caveman.

Sport events in general are alot cheaper in Europe, I only pay 20$ per game to go watch my local football team every week and I live in switzerland which normally is much more expensive than the US. Even ticket prices for the biggest teams in Europe aren't much more than 25/30$ per game, except for England, that's the only place in Europe where the ticket prices are close to american prices
@RealFansSports
@RealFansSports Год назад
Man I wish! You’ll only get those prices if the team is really struggling in the season and they are in a small market area, but majority are upwards of a $100 at the lowest

@@RealFansSports I know, I went to an NHL game once when I was in Boston and payed like 90$ for nosebleeds + 50$ parking ticket +15$ for a beer and a Pizza slice, in the end it was just a random regular season game and half the stadium was empty, quite underwhelming experience tbh, when I go watch hockey in switzerland I only pay a fraction but get to cheer with hockey ultras who are just as crazy as the football/basketball ultras

The big difference is no matter if you look at football(soccer) or basketball or handball or whatever, most of these clubs are there for 100 years or something and they don't travel from one city to another. That means, these sport clubs are a huge part of the identity of the city. That's the difference and that is why they mean so much to these people. I'm from Germany and a huge football fan. My dad took me to the stand of Borussia Dortmund at the age of 4, like his father did with him.... that's why.

There's an excellent saying In America the announcer in the stadium tell fans to make noise In Europe the announcer in the stadium asks the fans to calm down
@elalogar7340

Not just ask the fans to calm down, but there are cases of announcers asking the fans to stop throwing the pyrotechnics on the playing field.

When it comes to basketball the most passionate fans are from Serbia and Greece, Turkey is also up there but I would say a tier down. Lithuania and Israel also have very dedicated and passionate fanbases but they are much less rowdy.
@draganmarkovic491
@draganmarkovic491 Год назад
What he said in the end isn't really true, I mean basketball is near football in only 3 countries in Europe, Serbia, Lithuania and Greece those 3 countries combined have under 20 million people. Serbia alone for example has 5 World tittles, tied with the US but Serbia has 7 million people while the US has over 320 million people. There are some other countries where basketball is somewhat popular like Turkey, Italy, Spain, Russia, France but they mostly had rich clubs and only in last years or decades they started investing more in youth development. But even in the NBA now most of the top players are European, Jokic is Serbia, Doncic is Slovenian/Serbian, Embiid is Cameroonian/French, Giannis is Nigerian/Greek, Sabonis is Lithuanian etc...

Sports are entertainments in the US. In Europe sports are religions and wars in the same time, and in the US you have franchise, and a franchise can move to another city at any time. In Europe we have clubs, a club represent a city and people since more than a century for a lot of clubs, and this love for a club is from fathers to sons, it's in our blood when we born ans remain in it til our death. Sorry for my poor english 🇨🇵🇨🇵
@JPSKS78

they love their clubs, more than bascket, footbal, etc.. the fans supporting, for example POAK, in a basckeball arena, are the same in the football games!! We love without reasoning our clubs, our shirts, our colors, our cities, our simbols/logos... in everry sports they compete! Its almost a religion around the club... the logo.. the shirt and our colors and citys, etc...

The thing you are not understanding about Ultras and fans in Europe, they are part of the team. If team doesn't perform, the pressure is so much from fans they have to remove coach or even sell sale players. This incident might been issue with TV company, so the fans didn't like it. No one can stop them. In US team does whatever and you get pissed and have no say on it. The team should be a city legacy and not a toy for businesses to make money out of it.

Breaking the cameras was a political act. Sports in europe are often tied to politics and long time historical issues, that's also part of why the fans are so passionate and rowdy.

The thing is about being a supporter, that the team you support needs to feel your support during the matches. Yea they might enjoy playing in a full stadium or arena, but they dont feel when you go buy a flag to hang in your house, they dont know if you wear their shirt at home. They feel the energy from the stands on matchday. If you are a "fan" yes then you can get your entertainment, buy your merc, watch the matches at home do your sports betting and get entertained. or you can be a supporter and actually contribute to the team finding extra motivation, perform better and help your club directly by actively supporting on matchday. And that, might be the difference in the American entertainment culture.
@RealFansSports
@RealFansSports Год назад
Yeah i can understand that for sure. Don't get it twisted their are a lot of Amercian fans that do go the extra mile in supporting players. when i can afford it im at every game possible cheering as loud as i can, but in america, sporting events are very expensive. generally a football game for 2 people (where im from in a small market) would cost about $240 for tickets, $30 parking, $10 per beer, and $20 per plate of food. For basketball its about half the ticket price and these seats are in the nose bleeds. Im typically the guy at the games that casual fans are mad at it because im standing up majority of the game and get mad when we arent being loud. so i understnad your point lol it makes me mad

The gent at 14:16 makes a good point about the US sporting culture being better off as a more controlled environment because of the greater presence of guns. The more relaxed approach therefore works better for them.
@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692
No it just means Americans are cucks who can't fight like men. Having a gun is nice when you really need it, but every real man should know how to fight with his hands etc. Your gun won't save you from getting one shot knocked out or knocked down and stomped out, because you don't know how to fight.

its even worse than you think. some teams are devided by a civil war and the hatred for each other still lingers on. Some fans for these teams even joined in the military just to they could kill the opposing fans. That is insanity at its finest. So in some clubs this is more than just sports and even more than life.
@RealFansSports

That’s definitely something we didn’t even consider. That’s insanity. And also makes a lot of sense as far as the rivalry being more than sports. Shoot the sport itself is way more than sport itself

A LOT of clubs here have a section of fans that operate like gangs, some of them are even operating as lackeys for the owners to do their dirty work. We just a few days ago had an incident here in Greece where a group of ultras from the country of Croatia traveled across Europe all the way to Athens Greece to stab and kill an Ultra from the Greek team of AEK before their Football match. Honestly it's unfortunate that these things happen and there is no hard laws that chase these type of behaviors away. I'm all for the extreme atmospheres and intense rivalries as long as it stays in sports and no human life is lost over it.

Greek style* hooliganism 5-6 Croats stabbed, 1 dead (Greek, AEK). Totally Chaos. *The profile of hooliganism in Greece, in no way resembles to the profil of the ones in other countries

Have also seen and been in fights with opposing fans before, but I also enjoy the trash talking with an opposing team fan during the game and then the conversations after games of giving them tips of things to do around our city and such. Guys ! Im Europian American . Love Basketball. Sports in general. I did enjoy the ideo .thank you. But the big difference between NBA and Euro league. In America they will sell and by NBA Team and its normal business.. Try to Sell Bahçe ,or Gallata ? Or Panathinaikos , or Red Star. Or Partizani. Any Futbol club. Or Basketball clubs in EUROPE ?? Not going to happen. Just impossible to sell history tradition genaration acter generation of history . I think this is the difference between the American Sports and Europian sports. In Ehrope runs deep, keep in mind many wars between this countries and all that translates in basketball court, or Soccer pitch. Thank you for video. Vreat stuff

Doncic was playing in such crowds as a 16-17yo against grown ass pros and won an mvp at 18 or so. And then they had the audacity to think he wouldnt be able to handle usa crowds💀 Surprised Gist knew the areas in Athens however. He’s definitely been partying lol

@@RealFansSports Yeah the fans definitely take it way too far. That’s what makes the crowd extremely tough. Also the culture is different. Star players are important, sure but nothing anywhere near what you got in the nba where lebron can affect front office decisions and crazy shit like that. Doncic as a player also had to be coachable and a team player on top of that and the diva crap you see from guys like Harden doesnt fly. Doncic’s feats in the euroleague are extremely impressive considering the reality of that league. Even Giannis says NBA is easier to score in.
