This is great choreography, what I like especially is how his daughter is slightly off in her dance in a passive aggressive way to show how upset she is with him - he doesn't even notice because he's going through a "midlife crisis" and has now become fixated on her best friend.
The other cheerleaders are smiling and make eye contact with the audience. Jane goes through all the motions stone-faced. Haven't seen the entire movie, but I'll bet she only went out for cheerleading because the Mom wanted her too.
+Toby Royson Yeah, when a husband has fallen in love with a teen girl because his wife turned into a frigid and cold bitch who only cares about keeping up appearances.
Toby Royson Nope. He's bored of her having turned into a cold bitch. At that row scene in the bedroom he states that she wanks regularly because she doesn't seem to want sex with him anymore, and she's the first one being unfaithful to him. He tries to save their marriage, she's the one who doesn't want to, despises him and behaves as if the only thing she cares about is their status.
In the Bonus DVD: this scene was filmed by having Kevin Spacey stare at the high school boy's basketball game and re-edited with the cheerleader dance. That's why the acting is so realistic!
Clowntrooper in some countries the age of consent is 21. who cares. being attracted to a 17 year old is legal in most states and countries and you ain't a pedo.
comments: "oh my god kevin spacey was SOOOOO good in this scene!!" Kevin: *stares into camera for the entire two minutes of this video* yes, very good acting indeed.
Brit M ehh acting is more than screaming and crying, its about everything you can see from the shot and what you can portray with each frame. For instance the reason why people regard this scene as good acting by spacey is because you can see that he almost genuinely lusts for this girl just by his facial expression , he goes from looking almost confused in the beginning then shifting to a face filled with awe and lust and its apparent that he is becoming obsessed with his desire of this girl and that he wants to have sex with her. This scene could have easily been done without the cuts into lesters imagination of the girl dancing and the rose petals etc. And the audience would still be able to tell that he is fantasizing about her just from seeing his face. Thats why its regarded as good acting, because he is able to convey his feelings through his facial expression and make it believable
B .K But I can also stare at a camera for 2 minutes, hell I could do it for 2 hours and call it "avant garde". Lmao, your pseudo-intelligent analysis is the epitome of modern art, it's bullshit.
Hollywood has always been full of perverts and sociopaths. If you didn't realize that until recently, that's on you. Never put any celebrity on a pedestal. With that being said, it doesn't mean great movies like this shouldn't be appreciated anymore because some of the people who made them happened to be rotten human beings. Try to differentiate the artist from the person. It's not right to condemn an entire movie made by hundreds of hard-working people, because of what the main star has been accused of. If I act like this great movie isn't worth my attention anymore because of Spacey, then I'm spitting on everything Sam Mendes, Alan Ball, Annette Bening and the rest of the cast and crew did. That's why when I watch this scene, I see Lester Burnham and not Kevin Spacey. What the actor has been accused of doing shouldn't take away from the character's amazing journey in the movie. Just some food for thought.
i hear so many people calling this movie 'beautiful and meaningful', but the truth is, 98% of those people are attracted to the sexual nature of the film lol.
You know those middle-aged and elderly guys you always see in the bleachers at girls basketball and volleyball games? The only reason they're there is because they enjoy high school sports. No, really, that's all it is.
And you know some of those middle aged and elderly guys in the bleachers are hitting some of those cheerleader/pom pom girls, volleyball girls in those tight shorts, softball and basket ball and track. That is because their daughter or granddaughter is one of the cheerleaders or pom pom girls and they have sleepovers. Many a young girl is attracted to the older man and wind up having intimate cheers and pom poms. But it's not just restricted to cheerleader and pom pom girls. Many a young girl that go to sleepovers are attracted to older men especially if that's the only real male contact they have had other than when they start dating.
I actually find this movie to be very realistic-at least to a certain extent. I tend to think most people encounter times where they feel so trapped and frustrated by the monotony of life that they escape into fantasy-in this character's case it is a rather typical mid-life crisis amplified many times over. Ultimately life is what we make of it.
My high school marching band performed this same exact arrangement of "On Broadway" some 15 years prior to this movie! I was shocked to hear it again when I saw the movie!
JaizMusic Well I can't see why because the end is basically him realizing the young fantasy wasnt worth it and have a moment of epiphany where he values his wife and daughter.
I want an equal amount of blueberries in each muffin. An equal amount of blueberries in each muffin. I don't care, I want an equal amount in each muffin.
At 29 years of age, I have gotten older, but the young girls I love stay the same age; they're just seeing me in a different way now, more like a sexless uncle; guess I'll have to embrace this new role.
People saying how differently they are viewing this after the Weinstein scandals are just ridiculous - the whole point of this scene, and this movie, was how he was a frustrated male living under the thumb of his wife in a stupid corporate job and how he was reclaiming his sexuality as a man, through an attraction to this girl who represented to him all he could have if he stopped being mediocre. After this scene he begins working out, quits his job (with style), and generally improves his mental well-being. When he found out she was a virgin at the end of the movie, you could see that he (the character) was concerned for her well-being and how she might remember her first time. It's easy to retroactively apply this 'ooh look this guy is just a sexual molester by nature' kind of judgment, but that's hurtful not only to the undisputable genius of this movie, but also to all men trying to be decent human and sexual beings.
Gabrielle Bertrand her age doesn’t matter, because it’s not about this particular girl at all - it’s about attraction to life in general, about being able to improve, about having a GOAL you can strive for, like making a good impression on the best representative of your gender of choice that you know
ash suni guess what, sexuality is creepy sometimes - being attracted to young girls at peak reproductive potential is justified by nature and there is nothing wrong with it as long as you (he, or any adult attracted to any underage person) manage to keep your instincts in check and find a healthy outlet
