Ronnie is a beast. He once asked the referee what the price was for the maximum after he holed the first black. And guess what, he did it. He is the GOAT. Too bad this sport doesn't get more recognition outside of Europe

I've loved most sports from a young age I'm now 43. Ronnie is the most naturally talented person I've seen. His longevity is crazy and he shows no signs of slowing down yet. 7 x World champion, 8 x UK Champion and 8 x Masters champion, those are the top 3 events in the game. He holds every record that means anything. The game is unbelievably hard to play at a high level, but he performs most days like it's a walk at the beach.

Context of the last two were that he needed to do them to accomplish a maximum 147 break. Absolutely insane that he continued to go for them when he didnt need to. Thats why we love him

Been watching snooker since the 90s and honestly it's been an absolute privilege to witness Ronnie playing, we're literally watching a master that I don't think will ever be surpassed

As a brit, I have been watching various snoookers stars on the bbc and enjoying for around 35 years. What you have to remember about the difference between Ronnie, and other players, is other players (mostly) play left or right hand only. Ronnie plays equally well with both hands and you will see him swap to prevent issues that would restrict another player who can only play single handed.

They say Ronnie would be a top 8 player playing left handed thats how good he is!

Being a british person (38) you always see snooker on tv thru the year, sometimes the same giys from 17 to 50+, and im still blown away by the 99.52% accuracy from basically every player

I've been playing snooker for 50 years. If you want to see snooker played to perfection, you must watch a match played recently between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Ding Junhui. World Grand Prix Semi-Final. Obviously too long for a reaction video, but for your own enjoyment. This is snooker at its very finest. Ronnie is by far the GOAT.

Taking nothing away from Ronnie, but be aware that snooker is filled with a lot of talent. Past and present you'll find many players pulling off exceptional pots and snookers and escapes. Maybe some more than others.

Watching someone like Ronnie O getting into his stride is pure artistry. It's a joy to watch. Sometimes players to demonstrations of trick shots, they don't impress, insofar as they are usually elaborately set up, you see far more skill in a tight game.

It’s years and years since I played for the fun of it when the game was at it’s biggest 80’s-90’s and it’s an insane discipline. Like you’ve mentioned the tables are off the charts HUGE. And that’s just for starters. Playing for fun I could barely manage thinking beyond the shot in front of me, never mind thinking several shots ahead lol. There are SO many variables, it’s s science. There’s cue control, cue power, angle and pace that you strike the cue ball and object ball, the numerous different ways you can strike the cue ball to try and control where it and get object ball finish up, safety play and snookers (the art of leaving the cue ball in such a position that you make it extremely difficult for your opponent to strike an object ball pressurising him into either a foul shot where he’s penalised and you’re rewarded points or he leaves you a potting opportunity), frames can often fall into a safety shot battle can go on for extended periods of time until one of you makes the error and let’s the other guy with a chance. From a TV viewing perspective this can come across as boring but for those with more than a passing knowledge of the game it is fascinating, all absorbing, in fact a huge part of the game is a mental battle. And it’s fascinating watching the guy that isn’t at the table, looking at his body language, I love to watch the players who are masters at poker face, my favourite being Mark Williams from my home country Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 UK 🇬🇧 You’d swear on times he has ice running though his veins, so laid-back, unaffected by what’s happening in front of him, indifferent to good shot, bad shot, it’s helped him win the WC several times. 😊

I also really enjoy watching the safety play, seeing two players trying to outwit each other is always entertaining and some of the best shots you'll ever seen. Snooker is not just about potting the ball, It's also about making your opponent shot as hard as possible and hoping they make a mistake .

For someone who's just got into it, you're picking it up very quickly. I agree with what someone else said, Judd Trump also plays some outrageously good shots, that would probably make another good vid.

I think the best way to describe Ronnie to someone who has neither heard of him, nor heard of snooker is simply to imagine the greatest sports person you know of in your favourite sport, or just any great you know of. Ronnie is that. Ali, Pelé, Jordan, Schumacher, Tyson, Federer, Hawk, Serena, Bolt...name anyone you like. He is the "that person" of snooker.

This isn't pool. This is precision. Every shot is planned for the next few shots. Ronnie is the GOAT

The shot he made at 8:25 is incredible. people that understand the angles know how hard that shot was because he was so straight on the shot basically he had to force the angle in order to release the red from the pink. brilliant shot.

Check out "Alex Higgins: The Impossible Break". Higgins was an absolute legend and was blind drunk most of the time (including when he did the 'Impossible Break', at least according to his opponent that day, the great Jimmy White). Many pros used to say that Higgins was the only player they ever knew to play better the more he drank, lol

Great video! I really enjoy the videos of you playing snooker as well. I hope you make more of them. It will take some time before you improve your play and strategy but you can start with the following principles in order of importance: 1. ALWAYS try to predict/influence where the cue ball will end up. You will not improve until you constantly have that in mind on EVERY shot! Experiment with different spins, angles, elevation and power to get more knowledge about the amazing things you can get the cue ball to do. Over time you will have the knowledge and experience to employ the right shot for the situation at hand. 2. It is too soon to think multiple shots in advance like pros do but start with thinking 1 shot in advance. On your current shot always think about the next shot after you pot and do your best to "set it up". Once you get the hang of it start thinking 2 shots in advance then 3,4 etc. 3. If you do not have a clear pot and/or streak of potts (Break) it is ALWAYS better to make a safetly shot in a way that when the opponent comes to the table he has no shot or a very difficult shot which coul force a mistake (hide the cue ball/object ball or at the very least put distance between them) 4. Take on potts that give you a chance to continue potting. Sometimes that means going for lower value collors but having an easy shot after that and continuing your break instead of going for higher value collors but having no shot after you pot. Follow these principles as best as you can (especially the first one) and you will start improving quickly.

I grew up during the explosion of this game (the 1980’s) and was an enthusiastic viewer and fan and enthusiastic amateur incapable of thinking more than 2 shots ahead (if that lol). I’m from across the pond in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (smallest of the 4 countries that make up the UK 🇬🇧 the others being England, Scotland and Ireland). Wales has though produced a World Champion snooker player in my fellow countryman Mark Williams. Mark is just 4 years younger than me, he turned professional in 1992 and won the SWC in 2000, 2003 and then left it 15 years to remarkably do it again in 2018! Here is what Dennis Taylor (WC 1985) in commentary describes as the best match he has witnessed at the SNC at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield since it switched to that venue in 1977. So this is an hour of action from 2022’s semi-final between Mark Williams and Judd Trump. As you will note at the start of this vid Judd Trump is leading 14 frames/games to Mark’s 11, the match is best of 33 frames (or 1st to 17), Judd therefore only needs to win 3 frames/games to reach the final, leaving Mark needing 6!! I've spent many hours watching snooker and it always fascinates me, but watching Ronnie is just another level. He has had bad days when he was too erratic but the vast majority of the time you know he's going to crush it.

Baulk Line: If you haven't heard this term yet, that is the name of the line on which the yellow, brown and green are placed (within the "D" ). The cue ball must be placed inside the "D" to break off or take a free ball. When a ball is hit into that area it has been hit "into baulk." LOVING these vids!

When I was young watching guy's like Alex Hurricane Higgins and Jimmy Whirlwind Whyte, Steve Golden Nugget Davis etc they were the pinnacle of the game, then along came Steven Wonder Bairn Hendry and he was a special player but Ronnie is a true master magician when he is on it, no one comes close.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is not of this earth. He is a God! Simply out of this world.

Although you’ll be spoilt for choice watching Ronnie bro, the stand-out player during the explosion of this sport in the 1980’s was Steve Davis who reached the snooker world championship Final 8 times, winning it 6 times. He was honestly to snooker what Robocop (the original lol) was to law enforcement, like a machine compared to the his competitors, he didn’t drink, smoke, gamble, achingly clean-cut and uber professional, a massive cog in the wheel to elevating the sport to what it is today. If Steve was the poster boy for snooker in the 80’s then Stephen Hendry more than stole that title from him in the 90’s, Stephen was only 21 when he won his first SWC title, between 1990/1999 he won it SEVEN TIMES, a record he held until Ronnie equalled it in 2022!! Another honourable mention goes to the fantastic John Higgins who has lifted the SWC trophy 4 times since turning pro in the mid 90’s! And of course my fellow countryman Mark Williams (from Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 UK 🇬🇧) who I mentioned in an earlier comment has achieved this 3 times, 2000, 2003 and 2018 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🇺🇸

So much is spoken of Ronnies talent but nobody ever notices how good his judgement is from knowing exactly how pacey the cloth is to knowing exactly what he needs to do and doing it with absolute sure confidence, the man just reads the table in a way thats so rare

The top guys like Ronnie can apply back spin, top spin, side spin and combinations thereof to bend the ball to their will…it’s awesome!

Keep in mind that a full-size, tournament-spec table is 12ft in length, and just over 6ft wide. Mind blowing skill.

My grandad used to watch snooker all the time, on a black and white TV 😂 He showed me how to play, when I was young, and my dad used to take us to snooker halls. Great game, have you seen some of the trick shots they do, that's a defo a great watch.

While many/most regard Ronnie as the most talented player to pick up a queue, the next close contender (who, like Ronnie, had his personal demons) was Alex "Hurricane" Higgins. Big figure in the 70s & 80s. Worth checking him out.

I'm an Aussie and completely snooker obsessed. Thankfully, it's popular enough here that it isn't that hard to find a venue with a full-size table to play and practise on. Pool is definitely more popular here, and is largely a pub game (the tables aren't nearly as space hungry). But I am surprised Snooker never really took off in America. Given how many great pool players there are in the US, I would imagine they'd enjoy the unique challenge of Snooker. Still, for myself, the advantage of years of playing Snooker on a 12ft x 6ft table is that it makes pool a piece of cake to play. Especially the 'long' shots 😅

Brother I grew up playing snooker billiards and more on big tables these guys are obviously high level alot of the things you're amazed by are simply just part of playing the game

Take Into account the sheer size of a full size table and the super fine cloths they play on, meaning that you can miss any pot if you put a minimum trace of spin or are millimetres out on the aim and its easily appreciated on how good the pros really are and Ronnie is the greatest of them all, from what he's achieved and what he's still achieving at 48 years old.

Pretty sure you missed what he actually did there on the second clip where he potted the blue and how he got onto the pink. Also towards the end when he pots the red left handed and screws the white all the way back down for the black, that was to keep a 147 break going! Even though you are new to this a lot of us who play regularly have the same reaction to some of things he does: “Oh My God… HOW?!” 😂

He's played whole frames Left-Handed and still won the frames, When asked why the Left hand after the match, he said because he felt like a change.

There's some footage of Ronnie playing Nineball in the Mosconi Cup back in the day. Could be a cool watch. He teamed with the previous snooker GOAT Steve Davis in doubles at one point. Also faced the legendary American HOFer Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland in singles. Always good just to get the snooker fans to comment 'buckets' due to the size of the pockets back then

Aside from the sheer size of the table, to chuck in another difficulty; the nap of the cloth. Brushing your hand from blue to pink, the cloth feels totally smooth. But from pink to blue there is more resistance, as the tiny fibres in the cloth don't like to go that way. Think of it a bit like brushing a cat from neck to tail vs from tail to neck. Now, this effect is fairly small, and it's certainly not anything I really noticed or allowed for when I used to play on a full-sized table. But for some of the shots here, especially the fast ones with a lot of spin, to get the level of precision Ronnie does it can make a _lot_ of difference. Watch that shot at @4:55 again with this in mind; it make quite a lot of difference here; especially as he in going in the direction _least_ likely to help the screw back.

A lot of those were at crucial moments too, in finals of tournments or critical points of the match. I think you missed that a couple of those shots towards the end of the vid were for 147's too! The highest possible break, 15 Reds 15 Blacks and all the colours.

Hello from Wales fella. I'm 66 now, haven't been able to play at all since 2004, due to cervical myelopathy. I began at aged 11, laid off from 17 to 21 but took it up again keenly and got to century break standard by the age of 23. Keep going, enthusiasm is all you need to improve your game. Best regards.

He is certainly a natural talent, but the skills he developed throughout his career come not only from his magnificent brain but also from sheer hard work. This guy has played thousands of hours of snooker throughout his life.

The left handed one was special because he was still on for a 147. Remember watching it live.

I am not sure, if somebody mentioned it already: the final of the World Championship is always on the first weekend in May. In Europe it is broadcasted live by Eurosport. Maybe you find a chance of watching a match or a session live.

i grew up watching and playing snooker, I used to love watching with my grandad and I watch the crucible every year which is the ultimate world snooker competition, it may not be as physical as americian sports but snooker is the pinnacle of skill strategy and mental fortitude, i'ts been great watching your discovery of this sport, btw I also love pool 8 ball and 9 ball, 8 foot tables is easy mode for snooker players who play on 12 foot tables, ronnie is one of the greatest snooker players that's ever lived but in modern day snooker mark selby is also a seriously skilled player with some insane games even though he hasn't found the success of ronnie.. and Ding Junhui a Chinese master of snooker is also amazing, there's a massive rabbit hole if you go into snooker history so many amazing games and players

The amount of confidence in your game you have to have to use the jaws of the pocket the way he does in the second shot is just unreal. That can go wrong in so many ways so easily

Some other important differences: Snooker pockets are 3 1/4 in. in the corners and 3 3/8 on the sides with rounded corners. Pool tables are 4 3/8 in. in the corners an 5 1/4 on the sides with flat edges. ( These measurements can vary slightly) Snooker balls are 3/16's in. smaller in diameter. All of this makes snooker a much harder game.

There's nothing like the first time you play a perfect stop shot to make you feel good. Basically, when you pot a ball at an angle, the cue ball will naturally continue forwards and diverge from straight. But if you play it with back spin to get rid of the forward motion and side spin to get rid of the side motion and if you get it right, the cue ball stops dead where it impacted the other ball. It's like you have complete mental control over... a sphere of plastic resin.

Thinking shots ahead is similar to Chess. A player might think multiple moves ahead but also needs to consider some of the many possible moves the other player might take in response.

The most amazing thing about Ronnie's escape from the snooker on the green is seeing a young Judd Trump and that cool haircut of his!

I think if you have never played the game, you can't truly appreciate how hard these shots are, and how ridiculously easy he makes it look. The amount of spin and side he puts on is unbelievable

It's even more amazing when you know how high he is while playing.

Oh, one last litte thing that I wanted to mention. When you're watching a match and if you hear the crowd applaud after what seems like a fairly easy shot it is likely that the applause is to indicate that the player has just scored enough points to require the opposing player to need a snooker. That little detais is often the source of confusion for new players. They're not applauding the shot but the score which now, barring snookers, means that the player has effectively won the game.
