That was a really great looking game, nice figures and board and I like the report style. The scenario seems a bit weighted against the confederates though. My one suggestion is it would be nice if you characterised the units a bit more, even if you just assigned each brigade to a state. Like a New York brigade or a Georgia one, if you don’t want to go as far as naming regiments

Late to this but interested in getting into the epic black powder series of games and have a question. How could the Confederates possibly hope to win this scenario? They appear to be vastly outnumbered and they’re attacking a defensive position. Are the scenarios written with any sort of balance in mind or is it purely from a historical perspective? Also are there rules to play balanced games that don’t involve a pre created scenario? Thanks for any help that can be given.
Hey Joshua thanks for commenting. First thing I’d say is that’s an awesome game. I’d say some of the scenarios in the accompanying booklet work better than others, but the good thing about BP is that it’s pretty flexible. I think I mention it in the game, but if I played that one again, I’d reduce the defensive bonus for the farm buildings (which is totally within the boundaries of the rules) etc. in terms of balance, there is a point system available in the ACW supplement called Glory Hallelujah which is available from Warlord Games, so you could agree a points limit and build your armies to that and just play a scratch game with simple victory conditions. Doesn’t have to be historical. For me, I’m not that fussed about historical accuracy, but the scenarios just mean I don’t have to make something up etc as someone else has put the detail together. Hey there, yes it’s one set of each for the roads and river sections (warlord games). The trees were from eBay I think the brand was Noch. Glued them onto 25mm MDF round bases. Hope that helps and thanks for the support 👍🏻
Thanks very much, very enjoyable. I have found that with the rules as suggested, that buildings are generally too strong and that a reduction from a value of 3 to 2 is helpful. At 42:50 (ish), I might be wrong, but I think (the rules are not with me) the Confederates on the far left taking a break test, suffer an extra penalty for taking casualties from artillery. Thanks for taking the time to film and edit etc.
Hi there, I use 4x4 or 6x4 battle mats and I’m fortunate to have a pool table with a table tennis top which is 7x4, so gives me a decent space. I have posted some games on 4x4 as I know not everyone has access to larger tables etc
Great battle report. Watched it on holiday. Good idea to reduce the number of units per brigade to fit on the table. We're fighting this battle this evening in 10mm with unit frontages of 90mm for BP. (Used to play Principles of War).

48:37 Really enjoyed another great battle report. Having played these scenarios its great to see them play out with your perspective. I find the results very similar, Bartlett’s Farm is very difficult for the Confeds. Quick rules note, shooting at limbered artillery counts as enfilado so you could have resolved the misses. Might have upset some of the artillery, but doubt it would have changed the outcome. Huge thanks again, well done.

I know you can count as enfilading against March column to its front and rear (which i think also forgot when shooting at the Zouaves!) but didn’t realise that was the case for limbered artillery. I had a quick read through and couldn’t see that? What page is that on? Cheers
I think you are spot on and we may have mixed marched column and limbered together due to the command rules. I see the same for march column. This may have been a change from v1 where i possibly picked it up. Makes artillery much tougher to get into position. I’ll keep looking but i think you have it 100% correct

That was one excellent battle report!! Well done. I have played BP many times but not up on the ACW variant. We play that if you roll a 6 in Hand To hand combat that causes a Disorder. Has that been changed? Also I would not allow artillery to deploy in a stream, but that is just me! Great report

@@Roll-Some-Dice I find the BP rulebook a relaxing read and very enjoyable. As a rulebook it is not good in my view. I completly missed the removal of Disorder in hand to hand! Thanks for that tip. I actually only noticed the guns in the river because I was so frustrated that the Union Cavalry was unable to ride them down! What a missed chance!!
@@paulpetri8738 yes me too! Particularly as I’d painted the Cavalry for the battle report! Oh well, at least they’re painted now, so hopefully they’ll get another chance to ride down some rebels in the next report - cheers 👍🏻
thanks for this battle report - so well done - I do have a question on the skirmishers though as they seem over powered should they be only firing one dice rather than three as if they were a line unit? of is this some oddness of blackpowder?
Cheers Michael and thanks for the support - in the Glory Hallelujah supplement, you can play one Regiment as Light Infantry so they can adopt skirmish order - it does possibly make them powerful, but they are then vulnerable to charges which is more difficult against formed infantry. I’m trying out a few different ways of playing, so may adjust for future games - similar to the buildings which were to strong in terms of the defensive bonuses - I’ll definitely be toning that down - thanks again
Hi there Klas, as the game is at a reduced scale, the rules suggest two artillery stands to represent a four gun battery and three for a six gun battery. This is similar to the infantry, whereby 3 stands with 60 models, is supposed to represent circa 500 men etc - hope that helps 👍🏻
