My friend's American husband was surprised by the lack of hurry to eat up and move on in restaurants in Europe (I'm in the UK). Food is cooked to order so instead of arriving instantly it can take time to come out of the kitchen and people are expected to linger over their meals. If you book a table for 7pm, it's booked for the whole evening. It's also unusual to be bothered by waiting staff wanting to know if the food is good, can they get you anything else, would you like the bill. You're expected to call someone if you want something, even the bill.

Not entirely true, at most you will be asked, somewhere during a convenient time during the meal, if everything is to your satisfaction.

@Zfen89not69 Greetings from San Francisco. Are you saying Germany has closed ALL Walmart's Entirely? Or in certain regions? Why? I feel it may have been to preserve smaller businesses? Walmart's have evaporated Mom and Pop stores, throughout America. I used to be Very anti Walmart. Now I'm in there at least twice a month. If you closed all Walmart's, were there replacements smaller, or native operations opened, or, who filled the niche for All the various items Walmart offers? Thanks.

You guys are actually living on the same planet as the rest of us 😂 And you are curious about it ♥️ It's great exploring different cultures, countries, learning from them, growing. I love US, you give us great pop culture, NBA, and even thou you get a bad rep, I know majority of people are wonderful. And your politics? Omg! Veep and Scandal on steroids! I know it's not fun for you guys, but it's highly entertaining for us outsiders looking in. As for the eggs : US eggs per FDA have to be pre-washed before they hit the shelves which strips them of a protective layer which is why they have to be refrigerated. In Germany for example eggs are kept out on the counter. They aren’d washed, it’s not uncommon to have some feathers or other dirt particles on them when you buy them.

"Washing strips them of a protective layer" no. When the egg comes out of the hen, it can be covered with fx salmonella bacteria. What prevent bacteria from entering the egg is the eggshell, but it can only do that if it is dry. Therefor washing eggs are not the brightest idea.

We actually have jam AND jelly. Some fruits can be turned into both, some others in one or the other. So if you ask for jelly, you'll get jelly. The difference is jelly is like a fruit juice with sugar and gelatin and jam is made with fresh fruits so it's more like a gelled compote.

LUVED both of your eye reactions on this video funny as lol...Aussie who lived in the USA (illinois) but travelled. I kept commenting about the awful chemical taste in all the fruit and vegetables, and was told over and over it's in my imagination. A year later 2 friends returned to Western Australia with me, and stayed with me on a 3 month holiday. Took 3 meals in Aus to say "yeah ok, our fruit and vege do taste different, but it's not chemicals". They returned home to Illinois and Georgia, within a week, both of them made comment about how upset they were that now their fruit and vege tastes like chemical and apples, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers (capsicum) and squash (butternut pumpkin here) DO taste like cardboard🤣🤣🤣

@@TheDemouchetsREACT While they were here, they went coo coo for coco puffs over our tropical fruits and vegetables. When they just waited about 8 weeks before they got used to that taste again. Even I started to get used to it, and not notice the chemical taste in all things so much after 5/6 months, but some of the things such as your squash (butternut pumpkin), apples and broccoli I just couldn't eat it there. In Western Australia we grow most of our fruit n vege here, and because we have so many different climates going through our state, we're pretty spoiled for choice and quality here in WA. The other thing they loved here was our huge strips of bacon compared to yours, and they loved our fresh cheeses, and our fresh bakeries, where we can go for warm crusty bread loafs, or fresh baked lamingtons, fresh backed meat pies and sausage rolls. The one thing I really loved was Dairy Queen, oh yummm lol. Illinois Pizza Hut didn't like me making them put pineapple on my pizza either - I had to supply my own tin of pineapple though lol. Geez, ya gotta have pineapple on a supreme pizza (the lot), or a Hawiian Pizza (Ham cheese pineapple).. Its an Aussie thing lol

Loved it, for some insight, As a Head Chef, in Australia and New Zealand chefs are trained to avoid American fresh produce like vegetables and meat due to banned chemicals and insufficient nutrients. Lately, that stereotype has been changing however, America is now producing some good quality wines and American BBQ and Hot-Sauce have always been popular here as well as dry goods. The one thing though, American (Texas) BBQ techniques are top tier and Creole/Soul Food is next level. You don't really see that sort of Soul Food anywhere else in the world and that's something to be proud of because even top-level fine dining chefs have a soft spot for that soul food.

I agree with most people. The food difference between the US and the EU is huge. However, if you haven't been to the EU you just have to believe what everyone says. But take it from me (I've been to the US 4 times): The food in the US doesn't taste as good. It is often tasteless. You get way too much (including the free sugar) and it still tastes like nothing. But, as I say, you have to experience it for yourself. So.......... come to the EU. Start in the Netherlands, for example, where there is a little less cultural difference and most people speak excellent English. But the food is much better with a lot of international food.

America gets a bad rap but there is many great things about it too. I was once there on holiday and the cab/taxi I was in crashed, I was stuck on the highway walking. We came across some cops and they couldnt have been more helpful. They ordered us a new taxi, talked to us for an hour, when the taxi didn't arrive they threw us in the back of their squad car, turned on the sirens, blasted the radio and sped us to the club before we were late. Legends.

Yes thank you. I'm so glad to hear you say something positive about my country! I wish we could have great food without chemicals like other nations. But does Finland have 330 million people to feed? No! So it is much easier to get food from the sea or farm to the Finnish table. In America, it can take days to weeks so food must be preserved with salt and frozen for transport across thousands of miles (kms) of land. I would not bad mouth a country I was visiting for vacation. I would inform people in America that the drinking water in one country is not sanitary but their tree fruits are fresh, for example! There has to be a balance of good and bad otherwise how are we living to age 74 on average?

It's true about clothes for me anyway, I wear track pants and plain t shirts at home, but if I go out I have to change to smart casual! Also true about food, less additives and preservatives, and we keep the eggs out of the fridge because they are not washed, the USA does this and it removes the natural safety coating eggs have, so then they are more vulnerable and last less longer.

Finnish food quality is really high, that's true. We have very strict hygiene regulations that are enforced, which need to be followed from the butchers to the markets cold shelves. Finland and Sweden are the only countries without salmonella in their poultry (what I last heard) and the reason eggs are not washed is that doing that destroys the natural protective layer on them that keeps them from spoiling in warm temperatures. we don't pre-nedicate animals, we isolate them and treat them untill they are healthy. Dairy farms take tests very day on the produce and so does the dairy. I tfeels like when compared to some countries anything we have here could be called organic, there's so little chemicals involved. And if you lose your reputation, you are pretty much finished. And lets not get started on Finnish chocolate. Since I never have had a chance to try authentic Belgian chocolate, I can't say for sure ours is better, but they have to try hard to beat it.

When it comes to the healthy food vs unhealthy food, there's also the question of cost. It's so expensive to eat healthy, but food that isn't as healthy or is straight up bad for you is /cheaper/. Which in itself is baffling and really detrimental; everyone deserves healthy food, but not everyone can afford to buy it. It's sad is what it is.

When on the bus again and I kid you not... each boy on the team tried to trade his candy for someone else's. I'm not saying the candy was bad but it was so different from what we were used to that we couldn't eat it. To us it just tasted weird and it wasn't good at all. About jam…first time I went to the U.S. I made the people we were staying with take us to IHOP. They had Swedish pancakes, so of course I tried those. They had lingonberry jam, so of course I tried that. It tasted horrible. The pancakes tasted like mushy cardboard and they he jam was like a syrup. Swedish jam has the berries still in it, so there’s like more…meaty..? And it’s cooked with sugar and not like corn syrup.

She immigrated from Philly to Sydney to be with Her Aussie Boyfriend. She recommended trying the local Cafes and Restaurants, basically don't just stick to places with familiar names. Except for Our Macca's (McDonald's) according to RU-vid videos our menus and food quality are mind blowing. Not to mention our beloved Aussie Takeaway, every town over here has at least one. You can buy Hamburgers, Fish And Chips, various Hot Foods, packets of Chips (we simply call them all Chips including Fries 🍟), Choccies (Chocolate 🍫), Lollies (Candy or Sweets), Icecreams as well as Hot or Cold Drinks. Garlic is really easy to grow yourself. Buy a garlic in the organic store. It must come from there because garlic in the normal supermarket is usually treated with stuff that makes it impossible for the garlic to grow roots. If you put each garlic clove in the ground with the thin side up less than 1 or 2 cm's deep, and you water it regularly than it can't go wrong. You only have to look on a seedingcalender when you can do this in your region. Garlic is also quite expensive, so you can save money with this, which is nice in the times we live in...

*The Demouchets REACT* Hello from South France, For the past two or three years, I've been watching fairly regularly vlogs of Americans who have settled in my country or who are coming on vacation for the first time to Europe and especially to France. When I first watched one of these videos, I actually expected a lot of criticism from the blogger; The streets are too narrow, the fact of using the metro in Paris (I also thought that the metropolitan network in New York, for example, was much denser than that of Paris and perhaps even cheaper than in Paris, but this isn't the case at all) rather than the car (here, we all know that Americans are practically born with a steering wheel in their hands, lol), food, for example, McDonald's here, which no doubt were not as good as in the USA (since that's where the hamburger adventure began), etc. But even for that, most Americans who go to McDonald's here find the food to be better! So, I was very surprised at her reaction to everything she discovered here. For example, she claimed that our fruits and vegetables at the supermarket tasted much better than in the USA (What?!! At the supermarket! Wtf??!!, lol). I seldom buy fruit and vegetables from the supermarket. Either, like many French people, I buy on the street markets of my city (1 to 2 times a week, they're present in almost all the cities of France) or then at the "primeur" (greengrocer - specialized fruit and vegetable shop) because I find in the supermarket, they're often not very tasty (Supermarkets buy in huge quantities, and since many fruits and vegetables are fragile, they often buy them when they aren't yet very ripe to avoid they get damaged and look good on the shelves). To the salesman, you tell him when you will eat your fruit (today, in three days, or more, even), and the seller will select for you the fruit that corresponds to your request. I said to myself, if she likes our supermarket fruits and vegetables so much, but what do fruits and vegetables taste like in the USA?!!! 😅 The same goes for some Parisian restaurants, on vlogs, we often see that Americans are enjoying themselves. Whereas I know immediately (practically in any case, because sometimes it's a little more difficult to detect, even for me, who is French) when these are already prepared products (industrial products; canned, frozen, under -empty, etc.). Indeed, you should know that today in Paris (and not only in Paris), one restaurant out of three offers dishes or products that aren't concocted on site (even for steak tartare or soup the onion!!!), but simply reheated in the kitchen. It's therefore necessary to be vigilant and to observe the menu displayed at the entrance of the restaurant (I could give some tips to those who are interested in being less trapped). However, when we see that, we imagine that indeed, the food must not be very tasty in the USA. 😊 I was also very surprised by the astonishment that American tourists felt about our café terraces. I had never considered it to be something typical of our country. I thought it was the same in the USA or other Anglo-Saxon countries. Ditto for our health system, our paid vacations, our 1:30 to 2-hour lunch break to eat (I had no idea how very French it was, lol), our more nonchalant way of living, more serenely, taking our time (on the terraces, for example, or at the table in the restaurant or at home, precisely) or even, our means of transport in Europe. Of course, that's something I know now. But, if it hadn't been for YT, surely I'd still ignore it. 😊 Have a pleasant day, my American friends. And, welcome to France if you ever come to visit us, or even have a desire to settle here.

Who doesn’t like peanut butter You can get jelly preserves too but you’ll definitely be able to make PB&J over here no problem, it’s just not common to have as a combo like our beans on toast isn’t common in the US (nor is soft boiled eggs in egg cups which is fire)

Back in 1996 I hitch hiked from the hospital in Culver city to Brooks Avenue , then walked to Venice Beach from there at night . I kept wondering about the shoes hanging over the power lines ?? I found out why later , and was told by some locals in L.A. never to do that again !! Dumb Australian I was 😝

If you cook fresh food at home, you should eat just as healthy as any European citizen. You should be moderate with processed food in Europe as well. But from what I learned for youtube is that in the US the grocery stores are pretty far form the actual living areas, so people tend to shop for two weeks in stead of two days, for what at least I'm used to. That might be an extra challenge to cook fresh, I guess.
@TheDemouchetsREACT
@TheDemouchetsREACT 2 года назад
Actually, the location of grocery stores depends on where a person lives. We have 6 different grocery stores within 10 minutes of each other near our home. People shop based on cooking habits/pay check. We shop for a lot of our food in bulk because we don't want to have to shop everyday with 3 children.
@hunchbackaudio
@hunchbackaudio 2 года назад
@@TheDemouchetsREACT Ok, that sounds great and very different from what I heart so far. They are always talking about this zoning laws, that forbid shops in a living area? But maybe that's just in some city's. For us with three teenagers, we can't stock groceries because they will still manage to eat it all in one or two days anyway;-) But I don't mind, I like biking or walking together to the supermarket, it works therapeutic for us.

Curerntely in Germany there is this experiment going on that we can travel with Regional trains (who need longer than fast trains becaues they hold on more stations) and busses through the whole of Germany for 9€ when like it could have been up to 100Euroe plus minus depending where your starting point would have been and where you would wanted to go and how many people 2nd class. Now, granted our tiny City Central Stations aren't necessarily made for that amount of people and you certainly shouldn't suffer under claustrophobia now if you haven't the opporutintiy to avoid it with traveling around 6am ish or midnight ish... The trains can be overfilled and soemtimes you have to wait for the next one...as of the start in June it was said it should go till September and some say they think of making it longer but many also already complaine dthat the whole shedule and technology should be updated before making it a THING for longer-ever.

American brands tend to have HIGH FRUCTOSE corn syrup- why? Except for the expensive brands but seriously. I love peanut butter- NZ brand Pic’s is so good
