American Couple Reacts: I Vow To Thee My Country/Pipe Dream-Funny Percussion Duet! HM Royal Marines! 

Continuing with honoring the Military on this Remembrance Sunday, we wanted to listen to one of the most requested British Patriotic songs. We also wanted to see this requested sketch of the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines having some fun! They certainly deserve it! Both of these videos moved us, in different ways of course. We absolutely LOVE "I Vow To Thee My Country" what a beautiful song! The Royal Marines Band are beyond incredible! Natasha literally cannot get the song out of her head! My father died on 11/11 at 11.14am. His most favoured day was Armistice day. We are Australian and He would have worn his poppy to services locally. On the day he died he knew what day it was and waited. He took his last breath after the minutes silence. Its been a long time now but I miss him like it was this morning.

The words are so deep. I absolutely love that song ..every single time my tears just role down my face and I literally lose my breath! ..I've never seen it sung so beautiful! I vow to thee my country is one of my favourite hymns always brings a tear or two.

I love how interested in, and respectful of our history you are. Too often tourists treat the United Kingdom as a sort of Disneyland. They so often tease The King's guards and laugh at us. Sure, some of what we do could be described as eccentric, but that's just us. Sending you love and best wishes.

My dad has just died on the 11/11/22 aged 87 was in British Army , I wear a poppy today with pride ❤

I Vow To Thee My Country is a powerful song. It was performed at my father's funeral because of his over 48 years service in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Whilst this ceremony was a memorial to British and commonwealth soldiers it also remembers the death of our allies and all who fought and died for freedom.

The musical arrangement of I vow to thee my country is the middle section of Jupiter from Gustav Holst's the planet suites.

The 2022 Festival of Remembrance from the Royal Albert Hall was last night and the show opened with a lovely rendition of "I Vow to Thee my Country" as well as a very touching tribute to the late Queen. I know the Festival is something you've featured before but this was special and well worth a look.

Please let us not forget these Bandsmen and Women are all , nurses, paramedics ambulance men and women. Thanks for your service!

Just watched this while getting ready to attend my local remembrance parade. I counted back last night, and including my 22 years service, it will be my 43rd consecutive parade. While I can, I always will ❤️

FYI - "I Vow to Thee, My Country" is a British patriotic hymn, created in 1921 when music by Gustav Holst had a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice set to it. The music originated as a wordless melody, which Holst later named "Thaxted", taken from the "Jupiter" movement of Holst's 1917 suite The Planets. (from Wikipedia) - this tune was also used for World in Union, written for the Rugby World Cup, first performed by Kiri Te Kanawa for the 1991 competition, and by Dame Shirley Bassey in 1999.

I served my country in many conflicts from 1982 on as part of 5 airborne brigade and 3 commando brigade. This is a tough day remembering my fallen comrades but also remembering how much my wife suffered too when I was away. I'm holding her now with tears in my eyes just thanking her for her part in my service too. Watching the guys coming back to their families broke me as that was us on so many occasions.

American veteran here. She's wearing the uniform of a Royal Marine, and I can tell you, as a soldier, there is no warrior on earth that does not either fear or respect who they are.

In my personal opinion, this should be the national anthem of the UK. I think we should keep God Save the King, but as a Royal Anthem instead.

My father died on 24th august this year . I vow to thee my country was the hymn i chose for his funeral service .

Natasha, Debbie this morning is the national memorial ceremony from the cenotaph in Whitehall. The ceremony is very moving and has not changed in format for the entirety of my lifetime, I served for 23 years but was never lucky enough to be part of it. The march past by the vetrans at the end after the King lays his wreath on behalf of the nation is so moving. If I can find a link will send it. It would be a great subject for a future video. It is aways shown live by the BBC every year on Remembrance Sunday. If youv search for "Remembrance Sunday at the cenotaph 1991" is a great example.

I Vow To Thee My Country is the slow movement of Holst's Jupiter from The Planet Suite set to a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice. Holst had in fact already written the melody before he incorporated it in Jupiter; he called it 'Thaxted' a village where he lived for several years, & which is about 4 miles away from me.

I had that hymn at my late husbands funeral. He was in the army and passed away 19 years ago next week.

41 is not considered old by the medical profession. I was in hospital last week and my doctor said, "Oh you're still young." I'm 64. I said, "Oh thank you you're very kind." And he said, "no, seriously, we're seeing more and more patients in their 80s and even 90s these days. Medically speaking, 64 is young. Don't think of yourself as old till you're in your 80s, say 85." He made my day I can tell you. :)

A very emotional day for my family, my dad never really got over losing his brother and never talked much about it but we would always honour him on this day. Even though my dad is no longer with us we still take a wreathe to his grave on Remembrance Sunday, I have seen this video before and it is beautiful and very moving

I Vow to The My Country makes me cry whenever I hear it, without fail 😅 That and whenever I think of the few words that are in the 'Birds of a Feather' Theme Tune, which was a sitcom here in the 90's.

Ladies, I watch this on the morning of the official Remembrance Sunday - In the UK we hold this ceremony on the closest Sunday to the Eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, when all hostilities between battle protagonists ceased. As a former Airborne soldier (2nd Bn Parachute Regt), I salute my fallen comrades around the world who gave their all for the freedoms (we) all now enjoy. I (also) take this opportunity to thank my brethren who served alongside me in the Falklands War of 1982, & for those who laid down their lives in prior actions - & of course, those brave men & women who continue to serve. My regimental motto is: Utrinque Paratus ~ Ready For Anything. Lest We Forget. Keep yourselves safe, Andrew 🙂

As a 67-year old Brit who attended private schools such that 700 male voices at public school blasting this out, I heard it to maximum emotional effect. Except that, mid 1960s to early 1970s, with the prevailing attitudes towards WW1's war of European empires, increasing awareness of imperial atrocities, eg quite recently in Kenya and Malaya, Vietnam and the proxy USA - USSR wars, the idea of verse 2, 'A love that asks no questions' was absolute anathema. Many of us, including me, were children of the colonial service with parents who had this song ringing in their hearts when they went overseas to serve but were appalled to hear what was done in other regions. We were born overseas and came to England after where we lived became independent (what our parents were working towards) not least for our parents to look after our elderly grandparents. We found that 'our country' was not entire, whole, and perfect, our parents had been taken for granted as gullible suckers. Dad had a huge battle to get properly paid, compensated and to have his pension set up properly. The 1971 census was going to disenfranchise as British my baby sister who was born overseas after independence - this was fought against successfully but, recently, we had the shameful treatment of West Indians who came here in the 1950s to serve in our hospitals and transport infrastructure. Like many others, my father fought in the Far East in WW2 so, when he came back, there were no jobs and the country had already done its celebrating about Germany so the Burma veterans were a forgotten army. So colonial administration was one of the few options open to him - fortunately, he proved something of a genius at it and stayed on for a year at the behest of the Nigerian government. That second verse locks the faithful singers into emotional blackmail by their superiors who have very different agendas from that of the boys in the dugouts and, of course, the press-gang recruitment in Russian during the last few months imposes just such an attitude. In fact, half the hymn looks beyond national loyalty to a different citizenship as depicted in the New Testament, eg by the apostle Paul, and expansion of the Church described by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles (more accurately, Acts of The Holy Spirit). And that vision is almost the polar opposite of jingoistic anti-Biblical so-called Christian but really atheistic anti-Christian right and Putin's Russian Orthodox Church. It's a stirring hymn and a classic example of the need to fight the effects of mass emotion on one's hormones and mind. Almost like the film, The Ipcress File, you have to bite your tongue or pinch you hand with your fingernails to fight the hypnotic effect
