Yonks ago, when I was a schoolboy in London, a visit to Harrods (in my case generally with my godfather) was a peaceful, yet wonderous experience. The pet shop, the grand staircases, the huge piano dept, and an enforced dress code for customers to enter. It simply wasn't like any other department store. Today, while still offering quality goods at extravagant prices, it's more like an overcrowded tourist trap.

There are 12 days of Christmas, none of them are in November. 😂 When I was a child my parents would put the Christmas decorations up 12 days before Christmas and pack them away again on the twelth night afterwards. I've more or less stuck with that family tradition because I find the festive season gets a bit stale if it starts too early.

I used to work in Harrods - it is huge! And takes ages to find your way around. I worked in the Harrods warehouse that is/was across the road that is now been turned into apartments and an expensive hotel I believe. I worked there in the early 1980s. The warehouse was linked to the main store via huge tunnels and things would be brought through the tunnels to the store. I would mostly pop up in the food hall and then make my way to the department I was delivering merchandise to. I loved working there. For the super wealthy who live in the very expensive parts of London it is their "corner shop" and they think nothing of spending money like there is no tomorrow, with no thought at all. It has changed of course since my day working there, and then ordinary Londoners would shop there. It all changed with Dodi. I wouldn't even step through the door now. If you are a tourist you should visit the place of course. Just for the experience. I prefer other shops in London.

Harrods, a name that I always associate with quality. My late Aunt always had an eye for the best of everything. She sent me the best Christmas card, ever. Use your imagination:- A man walking his dog past the quaintest bungalow, everything covered in a layer of fresh snow. On the roof Father Christmas had left his sleigh and reindeers. His footprints showed that he had gone down the chimney. The mans dog was on an extending lead and it’s paw prints in the snow showed that it had run up to the bungalow, jumped onto a coal bunker and from there onto the roof, following Father Christmas down the chimney, The bungalow door was open, Father Christmas had run for his life, out of the door, a piece of his trousers had been bitten away, with the man’s dog hard on his heels. It was the sort of scene that you would have framed and hang it on the wall. When I went to look for it to put it in a frame, I couldn’t find it. My partner said it was no longer Christmas and had torn it up and thrown it out with the other cards. I was so very disappointed and when she called it sentimental, I could have cried. A little sentiment in our lives is a good thing. Keep up the good work Ladies. 🙏

Your question regarding Xmas decorations....most of the stuff is put up the first weekend of December by my family. The tree, however, is brought in and decorated on Dec 21st - generally a Noble Fir. Everything comes down on 12th Night, Epiphany. Though most of any chocolate tree decorations seem to have mysteriously vanished long before then. Oh the joy of having 15 grandsons!! 🙄

Christmas puddings can be flavoured with alcohol based drinks and 'flamed' with brandy which burns off the alcohol (children eat pudding too). We do have alcohol free puddings. I noticed you didn't pull the cracker correctly: the length of your 1st finger and your thumb should be in the join between the ends and main body. Gripping this area tightly will ensure that strip of card is pulled with the rest of the cracker to produce the 'crack' sound. Yours was still whole after you pulled it: remove it from the cracker and pull each end....

Harrods is a place you visit for the first time with no money or credit cards, just a note pad and mobile phone. To take pictures. After your first visit, analyze what you have seen noted, then make up your shopping list. Then stick to the shopping list. And if you noted prices, and found other suppliers who can sell the same at better pricing, haggle. Otherwise be prepared to part with lots of cash.

Decorations: In my family the dec's come down on Twelfth Night, so 12 days after Xmas Day (hence the song). So, we put them up twelve days before Xmas Day on the 12th of December. This seemed a common tradition in most homes when I was growing up. Now... people put them up once Halloween and/or Guy Fawkes Night is out of the way. Bah humbug.

Merry Christmas from the UK!! My daughter's birthday is 2nd December, so nothing Christmas related until after then. I put my tree and decorations up on 3rd this year , bit earlier than usual as we have my daughter's gf living with us and she loves Christmas as much as I do (a lot!). Usually though I put it up the 2nd weekend of December. Harrods is very expensive, but it's a beautiful store and well worth the experience of visiting it.

I was there a couple of years ago. They had a bloke singing opera while he carved the meat in the food dep. I wonder if he's still there? There's a lot of crap for sale in Harrods, but it still has quite a special atmosphere.

decorations go up 12 days before and come down 12 days after - as in the song "The 12 days of Christmas"... But nowadays people start putting them up way before then - I've even seen them in November! That's way too soon.

Many years ago, Harrods used to be able to supply anything that you wanted, at a price, including lions, not toys, actual lions. There was a programme made about one called Christian, I am sure that there will be a video on here about it.

Growing up my family would drive around London for the day and would sometimes stop in Harrods for a look around. On occasion we would each get a fancy cupcake as a special treat (around £5 for a small one 😱) and look at the cute puppies on the pet level 😊 we would also look at all the jewellery/watches and try to find the most expensive piece to make fun of 😂 good times 🥰

Faux pas to put your tree until 12 days before Christmas but tons of people do, i usually put it up around the 12-15th when i can be bothered lol

Loved the video ladies. I had to take some Midwifery exams in London and I went to Harrods , you always bought something small so you could get a Harrods carrier bag, all green and gold. you felt so important , it was 1980. I took my packed lunch to work in it till it fell apart.🤣🤣

If you love peacocks, I live in a place called rosham in england, we have resident peacocks that roam around the town and streets. Although they cause havoc and traffic by sitting in the road

I love Hannah Rickets videos. We are not all fools that like that little extra luxury of shopping for Christmas treats at Fortnums and Harrods.

Excited for this video - I worked in Harrods for 9 years - Ladies Fashion and then Christmas Decorations in the buying teams! Left Harrods and moved to Hong Kong in Jan 2005!

I love Harrods to walk around, but couldn't afford their prices. I love peacock colours and am now considering a peacock tree for next year. I have a Harrods Teddy that my other half bought in the sales, they are just as soft as they look. Happy holidays ladies and to all from the UK, happy Christmas 🎄 😀 ❤

You can sell anything if you package it right! By the way it's been Black Friday here in England for the last two weeks solid! I popped into Lidl last week and there was a poster on the wll announcing "Black Friday - Starts Sunday!!!"
