My husband and I own a few properties and are ready to sell them. We both kept our first homes, I kept my second home too because family and friends needed a place to rent. Now we are getting slammed with foreign sounding investors wanting to buy all of them. We refuse to sell to investors, even though they are offering top dollar to buy them. We want families to own them!

Be aware of those investors. Some of them are ruthless. If they can't convince you to sell to them, they will resort to scaring you into selling to them. Stay alert.

@@hwoodist not the same thing. Cars are a depreciating asset, and the other is not for most people. Them buying up the real estate drives up housing prices and take most people out of the market to be able to afford a home. Nothing against apartment complexes just single-family homes. The impact is varied depending on where you live. US Citizens should own all of the US Land. Just like Mexico. 🙂

That literally happened with my first home purchase. The builder allowed investors to purchase several homes in the subdivision. They then converted them into mental illness, drug rehab, and half way homes. The neighborhood declined within 3-4 months. The crime and police activity increased significantly. After just one year I was able to put it up for sale during the housing boom. I made a decent profit and moved further into a rural area where the builder restricts the amount homes the investors can purchase.

My cousin and her husband had to buy a fixer upper because the same size house turn key was $300,000 more expensive in a similar area. It's insane.

It truly is the civil rights issue of our time...The ability for the common man to own his own property, instead of being forever indentured to the elites for a basic human need like housing. And the scary thing that most people don't realize is, as you said, BOTH political parties are bought off by these large investors, so everyday people don't have a voice.

This is creating more homeless people because most people can’t keep up with rent costs. It’s so heartless and unfair. I don’t count on our government to do anything to stop this because all the members of Congress have more money than most average people. The older members especially are completely out of touch with average people and they don’t care what it does to all of us normal people out here. We need to impose term limits for house and senate members as well as age limits for Congress and Presidents. They are all so out of touch and hard working people are taking it in the teeth. Something needs to change. Even people with full time jobs are losing their homes out here.

Term limits and age limits won't change anything. We need to get money out of politics - so that Bezos and others like him can't influence the people who are supposed to be representing average Americans. We need publicly-funded elections; no more rich donors funding political campaigns. And we have to do this via a constitutional amendment so that it can't be overturned by the Supreme Court. It's the only real answer to our problems.

If everybody rents then we are only enriching corporate landlords- the face of hedge funds who only care about diverting profits to wherever makes the most money for them. Plus,our children will never learn enough to maintain a property if they stay renters forever

I firmly agree with you. The rich will own everything and you will be FORCED to pay them for the LUXURY of living in it. They make all the money while we little guys are stuck paying them hand over fist to just have a roof and maybe a bed that sits on the floor. Sounds like rents are going to increase sharply 2025-2030 and people are going to be left out since the only other option will be in the multi-family and larger homes. These are already 1.25-2x the cost of single family starter homes in my area. Honestly I hope congress does step in and passes a law that businesses are not allowed to purchase homes or land in residential areas, particularly if they’re not a US based company.

The zillow model. Buy homes in a neighborhood, artificially inflate values on web page, then sell for those prices. I walk by three vacant homes in my neighborhood everyday with my dog. So glad my home is paid off.

The stop predatory investing act doesnt do much. It just reduces tax credits for large investors. Also they can just buy 49 houses under multiple llcs to get around it. Its a token bill with a nice sounding name. The Stop Predatory Investing Act would a prohibit an investor who acquires 50 or more new single-family rental homes after the date of enactment from deducting interest or depreciation on those properties. If an investor sold one of those properties to a homebuyer or qualified nonprofit, they can deduct the interest and depreciation for the year in which the property is sold

Kristina, you are right on the mark! And your reasoning is excellent. I love your call to homeowner action to limit/eliminate rentals in their HOAs. I have respectfully listened to you for a couple of years now, since learning about you. I admire what you do and your position of being a strong advocate for individuals. There’s an angle I’d ask you to consider with serious investigation. Bezos’ move is one further step to the declaration that by 2030, “you’ll own nothing”. There truly is an openly documented agenda for this.. That’s why we just saw the lawsuit against NAR that just weakened the USA’s largest lobby for private property ownership. And Congress is primarily comprised of uniparty members, owned by the various lobbies. So the only answer lies in an action-oriented, Christ-empowered citizenry that’s versed in its Constitutional rights. Private Property ownership is a cornerstone of liberty.

In this case you need to sell your home before you enter and self pay. They can't do this if you sell the house first. This only works if you go on Medicaid. Yes, the oligarchy is trying to own everything cradle to grave. Time to fight back, know what you can do and do it!

We live in an HOA in California. We added the rental until restriction to our CC&Rs years back. No more than 45% rentals. New owners have to wait 2 years before they can rent. If at 45%, homeowners go on a list to wait til space is available on a first in basis.

I think they can buy whatever, but we should make it that we can only get charged 1/3 of whatever minimum wage full time income will be and cap it.... renters wouldn't be upset if rent was soo unstable

That last part about “builders need to build more” well how many builders have built out entire neighborhoods and just decided to sell them to investors? Yes, builders do need to build more, and yes, a lot of the red tape needs to be cut, but that’s not going to stop investors from coming in and buying up blocks and blocks perhaps overpaying slightly just to keep the regular folk from being able to afford a home in that neighborhood just to reinforce the narrative that they are buying homes that no one wants to buy. And the vicious circle continues until they control enough of the market that no one can afford a home. It’ll be the game of Monopoly come to life. It is true, if more homes were being built than institutional investors wouldn't want to buy homes themselves because they've become cash cows. So, the true, underlying issue is zoning restrictions and government regulations on the types/sizes/etc of your home you are building, and NIMBYism. Regulating the corporations on this is just putting a band-aid on a deep wound. It doesn't fix the true problems.

Yes they would want to keep buying them. Bottom line is there is a profit to be made in housing. Most millionaires are because of having a house and another one too. Not the way it should be, that corporations come in and out-bid a young family that should have one. It needs to be stopped, just like the ILLEGAL immigrant problem on our southern border every day.

I think also part of the problem is not just investors or corporations buying these homes, but also governments themselves. I live in a relatively small area, but the zoning laws are so crazy that a lot of people don’t think it’s worth building new homes or apartment complexes. Yes, some of these laws are necessary, but the same time I don’t think they should be so suffocating that we can’t build more housing like is the case in many areas

@@EmilyGloeggler7984 that’s also why Tinsley more expensive even adjusting for inflation. In the 1950s for example building requirements were very low sold houses to build a very rapidly and very cheaply while still being up to code. Very often in industries the more the government gets involved in the more expensive that item becomes either through artificial stimulation of the market or increased regulations, they make it nearly impossible to keep prices low.

I just found out a company owns more than 100 properties in my neighborhood and rents them out for a pretty penny. The taxes have gone up like crazy as well. My father's lot rent went up so much he said he don't know how he's going to be able to continue living in his mobile home. I know very well those companies never stopped buying properties, my neighborhood has changed dramatically. Investors harass us with their, 'I want to buy your home' propaganda, but my mother said she'll never sell her house to them.

In norther Nevada, there are entire subdivisions being built where every home is for RENT only. None of the homes are for sale.

This is an issue that makes me physically sick. I mean, I was in tears yesterday just thinking about never being a home owner, forever a renter. I am a teacher, single, no children, and make $100,000 (which is not a lot in southern cali) but cannot afford anything in California because everything is rental $4,000/month or buy a small townhome for $800,000+. I would need to save at least $250,000 down payment to even be able to pay mortgage and pay for food and other bills. It is really heartbreaking for many of us who have and never will own, while the greedy just keep taking. I wish our government was more effective... sigh. 😞

I would like to see a State get involved with these laws. Something like if a corporation owns residential property, then there has to be an owner that owns at least 20% of the company that is a full-time resident of that State.

The thing is Kristina, the powerful men in the smoke filled room, have decided to bring us into a new economic system, where the masses won't own anything, & we'll be ruled over by corporations. The World Economic Forum has basically said that. We'll all be on a UBI, rent everything, & AI/robotics will run the economy. It's a system similar to communism. Some people refer to it as technocracy. They also say, that humans will become cyborgs. & in my opinion, I think they'll successfully implement it. Will the people put up with it? Maybe. I wouldn't doubt it. One group that might not, are the black folks. Get ready though, because the big guys are gonna to go for it.

Yikes! I live cheap in a camping club, like a mobile home park for RVs. How long before investors discover this? Plenty of retirees live in RV parks full time, often moving between two or three of them depending on the season.
