Korean driving culture VS Amercian driving culture!
I noticed 3 differences about the driving culture :D
I haven't driven yet, but I was always wondering about these 3 things
when I was watching American drama called "Modern Family!"
Is there any other difference between Korean driving culture and American driving culture?

I’m an American, and people definitely get offended by honking! I think it’s because people usually only honk when they’re mad. I only honk when it’s an emergency. Great video, by the way! Cultural comparisons are very interesting 😊

I'm in USA and STOP signs are needed especially in residential areas with children and to cut down on accidents. Honking is considered rude to do it casually. You only do it if you're really mad and you should prepare that it could lead to a fight.

I dont dare to drive without honking in Indonesia. We use it as a warning, as a mad sign, as a "I'll go first" sign, and as a "w'sup" if we notice friend's/relative's car. Almost for everything, yes

I try to avoid honking in the USA because it can easily be considered offensive. The only times I do it is when someone is backing up towards me and I don't think they see me. I learned to drive from my dad on rural roads with no traffic. We also had Driver's Education class in high school. I can't imagine not having a driver's license. Yes they are everywhere but Stop signs really do save lives.

Yeah if i'm driving and someone behind me honks i'm going to wonder why they're being so goddamn angry. If someone behind me honks because i didn't immediately go during a green light i'm probably going to go extra slow to make them angrier.

here in Brazil we honk for almost everything. some examples ... car "a" lets car "b" pass, car "b" honks (most of the time, two quick honks) to car "a", is a way of saying thank you. someone meets a friend on the street, honks his horn, whether you're going to talk to him or say goodbye to him. when my family goes somewhere together, for example, when they are standing in front of someone's house ready to leave, or the car that leaves the first quick honk warning that it will leave. stuff like that.
@user-ir8pj8up7z
@user-ir8pj8up7z 4 года назад
also when, for example, one car prevents the other from passing, you can expect to hear a lot of honking from all sides
@user-ir8pj8up7z

here is not as bad as in the US in relation to honking, but also if the person is honking for a long time, repeatedly, the other person will obviously feel irritated

same goes for germany, only in very rare special made driving-training areas its allowed with parents. if you drive on normal roads you have to do it with an official driving instructor. also here getting the drivers license is a long process and costs a few thousand euros depending on how many driving lessons you need. i think the MINIMUM hours you have to do is 40hours of theory and another 20hours or so of driving with the instructor.. and the worst part is that you have to pass a test at the end of around 1 hour driving and if you do a mistake you have to re-do the test and re-do 4 hours of driving with the instructor again and pay for all of it several hundreds of euros. a lot of people get really nervous during this test, its just a very stupidly braindead made system here in germany that should be changed asap imo. it really sucks especially if your driving instructor sucks.

There some states in the US( like the one I live in) that is required to take "Driver's Ed" classes before you get get to take the driving test to get your driver's license. During the class you have to do 50 hours ( soon to be 100 hours) of drive time with parents including (10 hours of) night time driving and 6 Drive time with the instructor and 2 observation time, observing a more experience Driver's Education student. Stops signs are to slow down anyone who thin speeding in residential areas is a speedway and Honking is rude unless it is a light tap and not heavy handed long honks.

in my country, honking can be seen as offensive in some situations. but not always. but it's also true that we can't do it freely you know. we're forbidden to do it at night within the localities and even during day time, we just can honk in case of emergencies.

I am from US. We have drivers education you can take. In drivers ed. the cars are similar to the learner car in Korea. It has a brake on passenger side and signs on it say "learning driver." Although here you do not have to take driving classes to get your licences, you can simply learn from your parents and take the test to get them. In my state you can get your licenses 6 months earlier by taking drivers ed. I would 90% of the time honking in the US is basically say F#*k you and is generally used out of anger. We flash our headlights from low, high, low beam as a warning to other drivers about any hazards ahead.
@littlequeen5144
@littlequeen5144 5 лет назад
Ok about the honking, we (mom and I) were on our way home and we stopped behind this car that was also going right, but the other road was clear and the driver could've gone but they stayed there for a while and didn't move until my mom honked, probably was on their phone. And some people get offended because they feel like they have the right to do whatever they want on the road.

Good driving is mostly acquired by experience and takes years. In my opinion, I always anticipate the other driver to screw up. I hate people following too close behind me.

In Belgium it's normal to learn how to drive from a non-teacher. They just need to have had their own driver's license for at least 7 years. I started on the road from day 1 and the only real trouble I had was getting control over the clutch and not stalling. Other than that, it's just like driving in a video game :P As for honking: it's only legally allowed to warn others. In reality, it's only used to express frustration but that's really rare. I use my horn maybe 3 times per year and when someone doesn't move off at the lights, I wait a decent amount of time to honk them awake so as not to look like a psycho.

Boa sorte e bons estudos!!!

In America honking is offensive. People honk at someone when they are anger at something they did wrong on the road.

Honking in Texas here is more used as a way to signal to "move out of the way" sometimes if people don't honk much, like myself, I use highbeam lights and flash people to go, or move out of the way because I am coming down my lane faster. generally it works, but so many people get offended or confused as to what these signals means lol

In drivers Ed, I learned that honking is meant to just give a simple warning, just like in Korea. But people use it when they’re mostly angry. So it’s more offensive than it should be. We do go to a driving school as well, called Drivers Ed, but it’s optional. The cars we drive are student driver cars, and they also have their own brakes on the passenger side, so the teacher can stop if it’s necessary.
