Jeffrey Wright has been acting for so many years and has gone unrecognized by many. I'm so happy he's finally getting the recognition he deserves, congratulations on the Oscar nod; not that it really matters much cuz we always have loved and appreciated you.
This is the movie that should have been promoted during the holidays! Heartfelt and reflective of family! No more "black trauma" movies please! Support this movie!!!!
I hate when black people learn a new term like "black trauma" they tend to not only overuse it they mislabel it. "Black trauma" is this year's "projecting" 2020 "gaslighting" 2021, "Karen" 2022, etc. It's so irritating. The Color Purple was not a black trauma film it was a film about redemption, triumph and forgiveness. This generation is simply not smart enough to be able to digest complex media. Everything has to be surface level for this generation to understand. They spend more time on smart devices being dumb than they do reading actual books or learning and applying logic and critical understanding. You can praise this film without having to put down another that simply was too multifaceted for your brain to decipher. I am black by the way so miss me with the racism rant you were about to begin projecting and gaslighting your black trauma my way.
@@andrewDaMack I personally hear it quiet a bit y'know LGBTQ+ folks don't like being reduced to being only victims/obstacles in media or how Hispanics dislike how their always painted as drug lords in mass produced tv/films
Saw this last night. It is a literal roller coaster. Movie starts low then goes high and when it ends you’re wondering it is really over.😂😂 Those critics were right it is a masterpiece. You will laugh cry and get mad all in one movie.
@@shamar_qc this movie looks so good! Can’t wait to see it. Happy Christmas and New Year. Hope you and your family have a healthy, happy and prosperous holiday season!
It's ALL the same. It's the American representation of African Descended Americans. Those truly in power (control of finances and resources) have selected how Blacks will be represented and the young, ignorant, and simply greedy accommodate them by churning out negative images. Body Yody Yody Yody Yody Yody Yoda? That's art??? An Oscar for Hustle and Flow? Slap That Trick? That's art? Gone with the wind and Hustle and Flow.... It's obvious.
It's clear self destructive. The theater I was in was full of WF. They loved it laughing all the way through. Like Get Out I don't think they quite get how detrimental it is to Black society. To them it's just a minstrel show.
The satirical comedy is based on the book, Erasure by brilliant writer and intellect, Percival Everett. For over a decade I have highly recommended reading the book Erasure. I was in 😅 when I learned that they were making a movie. Yes, see the movie , but do read the book!📚📖 You may also want to check out some of the others books by Percival Everett. I like writers who promote critical thinking 🤔
This is nothing more than Spike Lee's Bamboozled repackaged in a safe page for 2023. Go watch that instead. Go watch Malcolm X instead. 2023 ain't got it.
This is a great film and it's weird that they are doing like zero promotion of it. Jeffrey Wright is a quiet standout. He is my new favorite actor. The cast is stellar and writing too. Yes!
@@doctordl7757 Exactly. I don't know how they saw Bamboozled or Hollywood Shuffle at all? It doesn't make sense. Didn't they wear blackface in Bamboozled?
I consider myself an avid reader, and nothing irritates me more than the black character. Especially when the character is a black woman. The way they often have that woman speak irritates my soul. It's like she speaks in stereotypes. I love that this movie pokes fun and points out what has been in my head for years
It’s so intentional and I understand your frustration. This movie looks like a breath of fresh air and I can’t wait to see it! Happy Christmas and New Year! Wishing health and prosperity to you and your family across this holiday season. Never lose that love of reading!
I can’t wait to see this. This looks so funny, absolutely unapologetic with how ruthlessly it lampoons the modern media’s campaign of cramming people into these tiny boxes and trying to define for entire cultures who and what they’re “supposed” to be.
@@stirlingarcher7972 I didn't get that from his statement at all. Imo I believe the underlying statement is the modern media has amplified this in mass magnitude. I completely agree with that, the media is a fear mongered monster who's only goal is to divide so others may conquer. empire rule number one homie.
Reading the book first. This is an adaptation of Percival Everett's novel, "Erasure." Just finished it. Enjoyed it. Very much. Not the first of Everett's I've read. As his writing is experimental, the cinematic adaptation will be interesting. I'm waiting for streaming as I'm still digesting the novel - which I recommend.
@@Thor-Orion My pleasure. There is rarely a direct translation between those media. I have a more complete experience with the movie after having read the source material. Concrete example, Jaws was a great book AND a great film. There were differences between the two and to the filmmakers credit, they understood NOT to include the affair between Hooper and the sheriff's wife because it was a summer ACTION film aimed at the entire family and the affair would have dragged down the movie. As I look back on it, it dragged down the book. Hahaha! But I was 14 when I read it so I just wanted shark, shark, shark! Might read different at age 62.
@@GinaGreenlee no, I totally agree! I felt the same way about The Prestige, except I always recommend people watch the movie first on that one very specific case because of how the novel is written to add a bit of intentional obfuscation to the story since it has several underlying mysteries running throughout the novel. The movie simplifies it and acts as an accessible entry point into the excellent world that the author (Christopher Priest) built up to utilize fairly accurately as an historical setting within his fiction piece.
@@Thor-Orion I just learned something new. Didn't know The Prestige was a novel. Thanks for intel. I will check that out because I LOVED the movie. Critics destroyed it. Who knows why. That twist was killer. Had to watch the movie twice just be sure.
@@GinaGreenlee yeah, I love the movie, David Bowie as Nikola Tesla was great casting, and Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are both fantastic in it. I don’t listen to critics very much, to be honest.
Jeffrey Wright is one my favorite actors of all time. His range is incredible. he did the old guy in Lackawanna Blues, he did Peoples in Shaft and you know he's an MLK Jr. I'm saddened that this movie wasn't promoted well and I found out after it was available in theatres in my area. Definitely waiting for the day it streams on Prime
I hope I can see it, too. My voice has been debated as "not Black", & I love that this option is being displayed. Making money, honestly, can - easily, become a fantasy, when faced with what is marketable.😢
One workaround is to write using a pseudonym.. but then if you did, which pseudonym would you choose? And then, once you choose a suitable pseudonym, the question becomes, wait, why should I have to do this to write the kind of book I want??
About time we have movies like this speaking the truth about how America is keeping black people mentally poor and enslaved. Dolemite did it, Gangsta Rap did it, FUBU did it, BET did it, MCU's Black Panther is doing it.
What a masterpiece. Droll humor scattered throughout - probably Jeffrey Wright's best performance. My favorite part was the 5-panel book judge (3 white authors, 2 black) voting on the "masterpiece" book for the award, all 3 white authors pontificating about the rawness of the black experience, while the two black authors voted against it. And the ditzy white female author ends the scene saying "it's so nice that we finally get to hear the voice of black people" 🤣🤣🤣
Great movie. 5⭐. Intelligent. Insightful. Funny. The story. The acting. I bought a copy because I am a senior citizen and the big movie theaters in the city I live in now are too far and too expensive. I got this great movie on UHD and watched on my Toshiba flatscreen.
This is definitely how I feel about the music industry. If one more female rappers talk about that pink this Brown that I'm no longer giving them a chance same with black male rappers. If they talk about light skin this and air this place out that I'm officially cutting out rap 🥴
I saw it was supposed to be released this past weekend only to find out even in smaller theaters its not playing until after the new year :/ But Im am actively giddy at seeing Wright on screen in this. Genuinely looks so funny and entertaining
Watched this a couple of days ago. This trailer is far more representative of the film than the first one. It’s like Sideways meets Key and Peele. Loved it! One of the best films of the year.
"A Masterpiece" "Absolutely Brilliant" is a slap in the face to Spike Lee. They know this has been done before, trying to say, "well it isnt as over the top" as Bamboozled, but it wasnt for everyone to laugh and enjoy. He had a message with tough love. They really dug Bamboozled, but had to do this, and cant come up with anything original, so they can eff with it. Ill wait til it comes on Netflix, Hulu
This is why I love Euel Arden's novel -- Down Here in the Warmth. It actually paints black people like ....OMG... regular people !!! In fact... even thought its a book about racial strife, it barely mentions race.
I saw it a few days ago and it is one of my favorite movies. I thought it was really good great cast. So glad it is up for several Oscars it deserves it.
Why "In select theatres"? Give this one a worldwide release, I'm dying to watch this movie, but I guess I'll have to wait till it's released on some streaming service or Bluray.
Another Oscar nomenee for this year, 2024. This is the fourth nomenee I've seen, and it's going to be trully tough to decide, which one is Oscar worthy. I saw just four of all 10 of them. This movie is the first one about African-Americans which pushis the whole race problem towards better... Articulates somethng I haven't heared anybody had guts to talk about. Excellent film. Though the issue is rather serious, the film filled with fun. Profuund humor. Proper Oscar nomenee.
This trailer is much better than the first and finally they put Erika Alexander's name on the list of major actors. Mistake not doing so in the 1st trailer
One of the best scripts ever written! The dialogue, casting, humor...everything was so full of life. I was fully immersed. I love how everyone interacted in every single scene.
This movie was good!!!!!!!! I don’t even really laugh at movies like that but this one tickled me so much from all the sarcasm. I’m probably gonna watch it again with someone.
