In the episode it cuts back to the studio after, where Jeremy and James completely ignore the crash and talk about the lap times while a fully recovered Richard looks around with a bemused face at their lack of interest in his crash
The race was in Switzerland the car was built by Croatian company Rimac. Also the last clip was from YT because he crashed after the finishing line so the shows camera guys weren't there to film the crash
The episode of TGT after this had a race between Clarkson in a car, and May having to stay with Hammond who was on crutches. James ran on TV. *THAT* was big!
The reason they were so pleased to be eating that sort of food like burgers, greasy stuff etc is because Richard Hammond booked their hotel for the entire thing in Austria at some spa place that only served salad, and didn’t serve beer, fizzy drinks etc it was like some sort of wellness spa and they were like really really mad at him for it. If I can remember correctly the only reason Hammond booked it is because there aren’t many electric car charging points where they were and it was the only place with a charger lmao
The wonderful thing is that Rimac has made a Concept Two, the Nevara, and installed a fire extinguisher because of Hammond's accident. The instructions on the brace say "use in case of hill climb". Their smartassness has my respect.
You should definitely watch The Grand Tour even off camera just for fun, it’s brilliant. They basically do what they did on top gear but better. Now they only make specials like once ever so often because they’ve been doing car show presenting for sooooo long but honestly the newest special they did is probably the funniest special I’ve ever seen them make. Impressive considering they had to film it only in England because of covid. But yeah it’s on Amazon prime TV, I can’t recommend it enough. They seem more relaxed and have more fun on The Grand Tour, probably because they can be themselves and not have to worry about doing something the BBC doesn’t like because they are the ones who run it. It’s amazing
That Rimac was already sold to a real customer. The company didn't have (many )spares at the time so they were really worried about lending the car to the show.
Hammond does a full interview with the owner of rimac on the RU-vid channel Drivetribe, they go into every detail of the crash, it's even crazier when completely broken down
The date of Hammond's Rimac crash was 10th June 2017, but yeah... he's doing fine. Even recently got back into the dragster on Drivetribe's youtube channel but he got very uneasy... queezy as they say. That dragster nearly killed him so I am sure he must've felt like he got back into the hands of his attempted murderer getting in that thing and he already felt the hands wrapping around his neck trying to in his imagination squeeze the life out of him. Or at least... that's how he looked to me.
Incase you didn’t know, Jeremy Clarkson got fired because after a long day of filming one of the producers told him they werent doing any hot food for them, so Jeremy punched the producer in the face. Everyone and I mean literally everyone agrees that it was the most stupid thing to fire him for. They massivley regretted it though because the Jeremy, James and Richard all being good friends left too and set up The Grand Tour where they basically carried on being themselves, which absolutely blew up, and top gear died HARD
Technically Clarkson didn't get fired, due to the unique way the BBC is run and there desire to avoid having to make a decision the BBC let Clarkson's contract expire. It's something they mention in the very first Grand Tour episode that Hammond and May have been fired from jobs and Clarkson hasn't
I remember when it happened it was on CNN breaking news. I was a Big fan since the early days and like You said they get to be like Your friends I was shook. He was in bad shape and in the hospital for quite a while.
Thats a million dollar car (rimac) only 8 were made and now 7 because of Mr hammond here The company retrieved hammonds burnt rolex (which was still working) and gifted it back to him
Heard that Hammond got back in the Vampire dragster for the first time this week. Must have been so weird to get back into the vehicle that nearly kileld him. Don't think he actually started the engines or anything though!
He got back in it and after he sat down you could see something in his eyes change and he went yeah nah fuck this and got out lol, but to be fair even if he did want to try to drive it again I don't think mindy would let him
Hammond: I crashed it, like a pro, behind the finishing line! Clarkson: NO! What you did was selfish, we had no cameras at this point. We had to get that clip (of the crash) from RU-vid!!! May, Fun Fact about the Rimac, that car continued to catch fire for 7 days! Basically one Batterycell exploded and ignited and the next and the next...
Rimac had big Problems after this crash, because it was their concept car. Almost insolvent. But i think they were lucky and rescued. Thx for reaction.
You can watch this video where the CEO of Rimac and Hammond analyze and discuss the crash ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-18oAkxwYQh0.html
He was able to pull himself out of the car by himself before it caught on fire, I think he messed up his knee or just leg. It was an electric car so it needs special foam to put it out (can't use water) and I think the car burned for like fire days or it kept catching back on fire for five days.
That was Switzerland actually but the car that hammond had was croatian, Rimac, company was almost destroyed after that crash but they recovered and now came out with fastest electric car ever Rimac Nevera
Clarkson was fired because he overstepped the mark one time too many, The producers of Top Gear were constantly under pressure because I do a lot of the jokes on the show were considered offensive, They received multiple warnings but the BBC went easy because this was the biggest show and the best cash cow with a hard when it came to international licensing fees. Unfortunately after a long day of recording, Clarkson and co-came back to the hotel in which they were staying, and the on hand producer had only got a handful of sandwiches for the meal, Clarkson became angry that the producer wasn’t able to provide a hot meal for him and his team, but the producer defended himself saying the kitchen stuff had all gone home and this is all we had available et cetera. The altercation between the two escalated and Clarkson/the producer, that was why he was fired, the producer has since come out and said he didn’t feel like the firing was justified it was just a heated moment (Honestly we don’t know if he said that to defend himself from public backlash of splitting up the Top Gear crew or if he genuinely believe that), but after the several warnings they had received for the pushing of boundaries in humour to the brink of offensiveness this was the straw that broke the camels back. Hammond and May both voluntarily walked once Clarkson was fired, they remained a trio and were picked up by Amazon and given back creative direction for the content they wanted to produce.
15:02 That car wasn't only on fire but it proceeded to catch fire multiple times even multiple days later because the battery experienced a thermal runaway.
I'd recommend to also watch the two interviews i linked under yesterdays video, as they speak in quite some detail about the consequences of this crash. The Crash was in 2017. Somehow he was able to drive again just two months after this crash, as he had surprisingly mild injuries, which he himself attributes to the safety of the car.
The BBC had to get rid of Jeremy Clarkson because he punched member of staff. Anyone else would have been fired on the spot, escorted out and reported to the police. You cannot run an organisation, or a government, where some people are allowed to break the rules because they're rich or powerful or famous .
By those rules, the guy he punched should've been fired for not doing his job, which sounds like it was far from the first of his errors. From the comments of some of the crew, the guy was an incompetent cocky shite who had it coming. Not defending Clarkson's actions but when virtually every member of the vast production crew followed the guys to The Grand Tour, you know who they stood with.
