When the American flag was raised on the University of North Carolina campus amid pro-Palestinian protests this week, some protesters wanted it to come down. Brendan Rosenblum and some of his Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers said no. They surrounded the flagpole and protected it from others trying to take it down. He tells “On Balance” they endured thrown water bottles and verbal abuse but stood firm. He also held an Israeli flag and said nobody was going to stop them from keeping those flags flying.

Sounds like a preconceived notion about white fraternity boys you don’t like. I remember the Duke Lacrosse players were accused of a rape that never happened by Tawanna Brawley. As an Israeli, these scenes made me cry. It is unbelievable that this is what they are doing inside the US. No matter which side of the political map in Israel, such displays with the American flag will not be approved and will be fully condemned and I hope that this is what they will do in the US as well. It is enough that this conflict is disrupting our lives, why should it also disrupt the lives of people in other countries? Thanks and a lot of appreciation to these men who were there to restore the honor to the flag that it so deserves, and to give other people the courage to do the same the next time.
