I like the parallels in this scene - shows that both Frank and Richie are “somebody’s”. Frank’s first team meeting, we see his integrity and respect for the game. He’s a somebody to his team and the streets because he’ll kill a man like Tango in broad day light if he doesn’t uphold his end of an agreement. He is a man of integrity because he takes only his percentage of Tango’s money. Richie’s first team meeting, we see his integrity and approach to police work. He’s a somebody to his team and the rest of the police force (for different reasons) because he’s honest enough to turn in $1,000,000. This most important message in this scene is that a “somebody” is a man with integrity. Your word is your bond.
@deildegast
@deildegast 2 года назад
You see that he puts "20%" in the jar and takes a much bigger number of banknotes home? That was a message, not to the dead guy, but to everybody else.

"he takes only his percentage" Are you blind??? The jar is for the 20%. Tango refused to give the 20% for the jar, so he was killed. The figurative 20% (2 bills off that massive wad?) was then placed in the jar and left as a message to everyone else.
@orsonlannister9847

Yes, he's a man of honour and integrity. Also, a drug dealer and murderer who profits off the misery and degradation of everyone else. I know, you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink. I get that more than most people but don't paint Lucas as some honourable man. Lucas, the real Lucas was a snitch too. And this movie is about 90% fiction (going off memory. It may even be 99% I read an article about it).

Well if we go back to the scene of Bumpy’s funeral and see how Tango treats Frank then it all makes sense. A legend of a film, that should be known even more, and receive more credits for its dynamics. Such an amazing storyline, characters, soundtrack and led by two legendary actors, Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe who brought so much emotion, and action to it. What makes the film even greater is the many lessons and lines that are brought up, and what's even greater is how it's based on a true story. Honestly, worth watching no matter what. Russel Crow was definitely the under-rated actor in this movie. His character Arc was fantastic, and he delivered it amazingly, and it was by NO means some flashy dramatization to paint the officer in a grand picture. Just a man with a duty, as well as with Denzel's character. @ men with duty to take care of, and thats why they exist. I love it.

Lol Frank Lucas (Denzel) only took care of himself. Scumbag murdering drug lord glorified by cinema. And a SNITCH to boot.

You are right... but the issue here is that was in the movie... that only owns the spotlight... Denzel is the guy.

The way they both went through the same paths in their own profession was brilliant. Every scene with them is a step closer to their meeting. The way they both came together, marvelous. This scene was both of them starting their crew; hand picked, guys they trust. Both were confronted with a little dirt from their past, something on their path that disrupted who they were and stood for. Whether it was disrespect at a funeral for someone he cherished, or not taking cash that made him (and partner that in turn ODs) an outcast. Watching this movie more often than some classic favorites and having it move up the list of greatest flicks ever made is fun. It's like the LeBron vs MJ thing all over again.

Denzel: So what was I saying? Me: I just thought you were kinda rambling with cliché's about having character, but you really underscored everything when your mysteriously left to murder that guy in cold blood like a boss! I'm impressed and also creeped out so good day!

Look at Denzels face at 1:06 when he pulls out the gun. He looks mad as hell like "I'm gonna kill you, bc you piss me off". Then at 1:13 look again at Denzels face right after he shoots him. He has a smirk on his face like "I was gonna kill you either way". Such great acting.

@@Diego-Delgado Henry Hill? Other than being the character in a great film. Much of his life was crazy but it was small compared to many others - even in his own family. Once he got caught, yea, he took the lot down. What I'm saying is, there are even members in other families that where up to much bigger things than Henry hill. Henry hill did not run bumpy or Frank Lucas for that matter. In fact, they aspired in different eras, and different years. Dont chat shizzle

A little secret for those into "movie magic". Slow down the ending to 25% and you'll see the gun is clearly no longer pointed directly at the actor but off to the left of his head. You'll now notice this every time something like this is done. It's why it looks like they "can't" aim in some movies. Because you don't even point prop guns at people.
