I wish they'd had more about Billy Wirth in their Netflix documentary. The way the gladiators targeted him in power ball and other events and Billy Wirth still managed to effectively score points was so awesome to watch. It was also really cool to see how he and Gemini were able to be so intense but still give each other respect.
In the documentary they don't show the reason why Gemini has targeted him. Billy threw Gemini out of the wrestling circle with an excellent maneuver in the previous event (Breakthrough & Conquer) which was very humiliatiing for the big guy Gemini.
I watched this back when it aired and have always remembered the coolest thing I ever saw on the show, which is unfortunately not on youtube. In the segment where the contestants have to get the gladiators out of the circle, Billy grappled with the gladiator for a moment and then grabbed him and just rolled backwards, clear out of the ring. The gladiator was very unhappy about it.
That was Gemini, the biggest of the gladiators at the time! But what was cool about Gemini is the way he gave Billy Wirth his due respect, including when he talked about him in the Netflix documentary.
Billy is a Tiger, Chinese Zodiac (aggressive, forceful, brave, terrifying), born 1962. He is also on the cusp of Cancer (hard outer shell, side stepping abilities, soft sensitive inside hence quietly spoken) & Gemini (elusive duality). Water (energetic, highly sexed) & Air (intelligent, constant thinker). Beat that! Best hair time of his life🐯
no.1: i laughed the entire time no.2:billy wirth is SOOOO adorable especially when he's taking he looks like a shy child.. no.3: i wish billy kept his long hair :D
I am not surprised. This was like 2 years after Lost Boys, and he had maybe one line in the entire movie. But you could tell he was tough. "You missed sucka!"
The problem with this show was that the guest competitors were so overmatched by the Gladiators that it often made for bad television. I hated seeing the “normal-sized” competitors get dominated so badly in each episode. When the Gladiators double-teamed or triple-teamed a competitor, then it was even more difficult to watch.
My two favorite contestants from Season 1. Brian Hutson was so hot & Billy Wirth completely dominated the Eliminator. Shame they had to meet in the semis instead of the finals.
From an interview in Sports Illustrated, Nitro had stitches on his forehead, asked Wirth not to hit him in the face, and Wirth did it anyway on purpose.
@@Harringtonize It was Malibu interview is on RU-vid Hannibal tv it was during the wrestling match part mailbu come from plastic surgery after getting hit and asked him not to hit him in the face Billy ignored it or forgot and hit him then mailbu told the other gladiators what happened
The gladiators hated Billy Wirth. There was a story in sports illustrated maybe? I’m not sure what publication but they interviewed several of the gladiators about their time in the show. Malibu said he had a concussion and some stitches and was in the conquer ring and asked the contestant to just watch for his head. Apparently the contestant immediately slapped him on his stitches. That contestant was billy wirth. So the next event was powerball. Gemini tells malibu to drag wirth off camera when he gets the chance. Malibu does it and supposedly the gladiators roughed Wirth up a bit and when he comes back on camera his shirts torn lol.
@@jeremyseaton4898 oh yeah. Wirth was a fierce competitor. I watched the show reruns during the summer on USA years ago. in the 90’s. and Wirth is one of the guys i remembered most.
If this happened in UK Gladiators, both Gemini and Billy Wirth would have received Red Cards 🟥 and sent off by Referee John Anderson for violent conduct (fighting).
