A playthrough of Gametek's 1993 Super NES TV show adaptation, American Gladiators.
It looks reasonably good, and the one (!) song is pretty sweet, but where's the crazy screaming noises? I'll take the NES version over this any day.
Once you figure out the timing and the angles on the events, they're pretty much no brainers. :/ Oh, and I guess the big digitzed photos are pretty cool.

I loved the show, but never owned the game. The graphics are a pleasant surprise. I like the digitized photos of the gladiators, and most of the best events are in the game.

There were a few games i rented a ton of times as a kid but never wanted it to be the ONE game i could purchase from time to time. This was one of them. I mostly purchased clearance games if it wasnt Christmas or my birthday (like when i tried out that dusty oversized Earthbound game off the bottom shelf at Best Buy for $5.99 🕺🙇‍♂️👽🤖👾💀🌎😜) and AG was always stuck at $20. Brings me back. Such a fun two player game as well.

Not too far off, considering this and various other SNES GameTek releases were by UK dev Imagitec Design, who mostly did work on Amiga and ST, as well as the Lynx and Jaguar (they were quite close with Atari). Fittingly, this American Gladiators also had an Amiga version.

Too bad Gametek and Imagitec Design didn't get the Bill Conti-composed theme song due to clearance issues, so they had to settle for an original score by Barry Leitch.

I've Been Watched After SNL On KCNC-TV 4 When I Was Little.

My oldest son used to watch that show on CBS affiliate WLKY-TV in Louisville, WBNA-TV in Louisville, WGRB-TV (later WBKI-TV) in Campbellsville and FOX affiliate WDKY-TV in Lexington (before moving to another Lexington station WLEX-TV, an NBC affiliate), and in reruns on USA, Spike and ESPN Classic. Today, Charge airs the 1989-96 version every weekday at 1:00pm, and we hope that Charge airs the 2008 version on weekends at the same timeslot as well as Gladiators 2000, Gladiators: 🚂 2 Win and the Australian version of Gladiators!

It's actually the same theme as the Amiga version used :) the Amiga one just had much better sounding samples.

The game doesn't give you a head start for leading going into The Eliminator?

The game is based on season 2. The head start was not implemented until Season 3. In the first two seasons, the Eliminator was played for points like every other event. Contenders received two points for every second left on the clock when they crossed the finish line, minus 10 points for each obstacle they failed to complete properly.

@@mukustrap No, that also did not exist until Season 3. In the first two seasons, Mike would say that the trailing contender needed to win the Eliminator by X amount of time to win.

YES!!! There was an Aussie version too - and at the end of their respective comps they would play each other in an international version

Warning- The gladiators and contestants are highly trained athletes and have a lifetime of experience, but they are not invincible. Bodies have been broken, necks broken, concussions inflicted, and careers ended in an instant. Although it is entertainment, the hazards are real, and the contestants and gladiators take real risks, endure unimaginable pain, and put their bodies, their careers, and their lives on the line. Don't risk yours! Be Smart! Be Safe! PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, SCHOOL OR ANYWHERE ELSE!!!
