If Washington was a king this country would have fallen to anarchy and chaos as we just fought a revolution to get rid of the king so Washington becoming king would have been redundant as well as it would have lowered our standing across the world as he did not come from noble blood and therefore he could not be king.

This is actually the first iteration of God Save the King used in the UK, the lyrics were written in 1745 as a call for protection of George II against the Jacobite rising in Scotland. The lyrics came back into use among American loyalists during the revolutionary war, with George now of course referring to George III

The words were changed to the modern version in 1830 when King William IV ascended to the throne as, obviously, the name "William" is harder to fit to the available notes in the tune unless the last syllable were to be accented, something which would, of course, have conflicted with natural speech rhythm. Reported testimony from individuals living in the early 18th century proposes that the original words of the song were "God save great *James* our King" and that it was sung by supporters of James VII and II in the late 1680s but there is no contemporary written evidence to back up the claim. There is a further claim that it was originally written to those words as a galliard (a dance form with 3 beats to the bar) with music by John Bull (1563-1628) and words by Ben Jonson, the English poet laureate of the time , in honour of King James VI and I, for a royal celebration at which he was present on 16 July 1607 in the Merchant Tailor's Hall in the City of London. A manuscript of the tune (no words) dating back to 1619 does indeed exist in the National Library of Scotland but this is a mid-19th century transcription by Sir George Smart, Bull's original manuscript having unfortunately disappeared.

The numbers of catholics in Great Britain and in the USA do not differ by an order of magnitude. Around 8% of the population of Great Britain is Roman Catholic. Less than 19% of the population of the USA is Roman Catholic. The UK is a much less religious/more secular society than the USA so, of the religiously-minded population of both respective countries, the UK has a far higher percentage of catholics than the USA does! It is important to realise that actual persecution of catholics in Britain had long since ceased by 1776 - no one was being hung, drawn and quartered for their religious beliefs as occurred in the reigns of Elizabeth I and James VI/I, a century or two before - and catholic emancipation in Great Britain started in 1766 (the year in which the Pope finally accepted George III's right to the British throne) and was virtually complete by 1829. Whist discrimination against catholics continued in the face of the law in Ireland, many Irish catholics settled on the British mainland of the UK: they would not have done so if Great Britain had been significantly hostile to catholics. So I wonder what makes you think that catholics, under a similar regime in the American Colonies, would have been reluctant to settle there, especially in the 19th century? I seem to remember that the Pilgrim Fathers were extreme puritans who left England in part because they were disapproving of the religious establishment was taking (James I favoured the episcopacy and ritualism of the anglican church over the presbyterianism under which he had been brought up in Scotland and his son's queen Henrietta Maria of France was a catholic). No catholic can be king, of course, as it would be absurd and contradictory for the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, an anglican denomination, to be a practising roman catholic!

I have visited the tomb of Benedict Arnold in the crypt of St Mary's Church, Battersea in London. The house in which he lived (62, Gloucester Place, Marylebone, London W1) has a plaque bearing the words "MAJOR GENERAL BENEDICT ARNOLD AMERICAN PATRIOT RESIDED HERE FROM 1796 UNTIL HIS DEATH JUNE 14 1801" together with a representation of the original British union flag and the flag of the American colonies (6 or 7 red stripes with the union flag in the corner).
