Jeff is the most respectable UTUBER on Kensington ave. His empathy n kindness shines through!! This collaboration with Jeff n Wendell is amazing honest. Peace
I grew up on a council estate in Manchester, and my uncle on my dads side moved to Philadelphia for his career from here in the UK in the early 1990s. When he drove us through North Philly especially through Kensington and Allegheny Avenue to where he lived in the suburbs, it made me thankful to live on my inner city council estate as opposed to the urban decay and despair I saw in inner city Philadelphia.
Democrat regions are like that, they keep voting the same way and thing's decline, like most of America is following down the path of Kensington, actually even worse in part and not to just do with drugggss!
Wendall, you couldn't have chosen a better person to show you Kensington. Jeff is an amazing human. He really loves, and cares about the community. I do outreach a few times a year up there. I volunteer to be boots on the ground. Call me crazy. I do it in hour of my son who passed in 2020 from an overdose. Spreading love ❤❤❤
Absolutely love Jeff, his channel, his honesty and his openness. He doesn't pay lip service to anything, he doesn't ask people "what is the worst thing to happen to you" he isn't gratuitous and it is a miracle he is sober and staying sober. Hoping Jeff has many more sober years to come, and adventures and he keeps connecting with people through youtube.
@@johayes2541It’s so important for RU-vidrs interviewing people in Kensington Ave to not sound excited when asking “what’s the craziest/worst thing that happened to you”? Better yet, don’t ask the question at all. It’s beyond what we need to know about their lives and it’s exploitative. I’m glad Jeff doesn’t do that. I’m also glad you showed a couple of nice parts of Philadelphia.
Hey Wendall. Thanks again for coming over and showing everyone what’s going on in my city. I appreciate how you treated everyone with dignity and respect. Hopefully we can do it again sometime in the future. Reading these comments make me feel Good cuz you know I’ve been struggling with my depression lately.
Jeff, you should consider doing a sit-down version of your videos ... perhaps with some ex addicts like yourself who were able to overcome the odds. Clean for over 3yrs myself and would love to hear the good stories too! All the best.
Great, informative and thoughtful set of videos, and I think an appropriate sponsor - thanks for having some of the best ethics on this part of RU-vid.
I’m from Philadelphia and it kills me that Kensington is all I hear about from outsiders. It’s is such a great city and very safe compared to other US cities. But everyone focuses on Kensington Ave. there are a 6.5 million people in the metro area yet a small neighborhood that has 4,700 homeless people scares people away from the rest of the city. Sad 😞 Such a GREAT city! Thank you for showing one of the nicer areas of the city.
People talk about Kensington because other than skid row in LA, there’s nothing like it. It is absolutely shocking that it’s allowed to carry on. That neighborhood has been a weird twisted dark place since the early 80s but the situation there now is a complete disgrace, and the new mayor needs to send waves of cops in there to put the dealers in jail and the addicts in to rehab, or jail if they refuse rehab. Normal citizens own homes in that place and the city doesn’t seem concerned about them. Prevention point is happy to hand out works and crack pipes and make sure the junky zombies are nice and comfy tho. Totally sick
Unless you close Americas doors the illicit drugs will keep flowing though the porous borders **nothing much will change either keep voting in Democrats it will just keep declining *@@cjbotts
@@annaelisavettavonnedozza9607 per the FBI Philadelphia is the 18th most dangerous city in the US. For being the 6th largest city in the US, that number isn’t bad. Also, there are about 30 million people who live within 150 miles of Philadelphia - the largest amount of any city in the country. Keep that in mind with the crime numbers as well
Nobody ever talks about why these people have the need to escape by taking drugs. Untill we get to the root of the problem, we'll never be able to actually fix it.
@RobinPalmerTV rubbish. Autism is the blame of everything. I struggled with mental health all.my life. Got no help from nobody and I see these "cosplay" "depressed people" using g their narcissism to make themselves more interesting. Adhd is the same. I probably have that too but all these people use their dopeamine addiction and inability to concentrate and say "I have adhd. No, you dont
@@RobinPalmerTV I think sky rocketing inequality is the primary cause. Both the U.K. and the US have seen inequality increase enormously from 1980s onwards - I think the poorest in society have seen their living standards deteriorate and with that brings all sorts of problems
Ahh that Jeff …..recently went on a horrible rant calling all of us, his supporters & subscribers clowns & other really strange names because we questioned his Amber support. Yeah, I’m out.
Britain is about 5 years behind America with its problems, 5 or 10 years Britain will be just as bad, if it wasn't for us being a island we'd be like that already
Interesting what he said about Bald and Bankrupt, he Backpacker Ben and Wendall have been fantastic for my mental health. Just getting to see beyond my own world, beyond my own problems, was precious to me and deeply affected me. Sure, in different ways since all those channels are quite different, but it's been deeply moving.
Excellent series Wendall - Jeff is a star !! thoroughly enjoyed stateside Philly. So many souls need help. I hope some good comes from your video. Im a Jeff subscriber now.
Jeff's right... The Fentanyl and probably Xylazine is coming to the UK anytime soon and to all users of drugs out there my solid advice is get the hell off the gear while you still have a chance. This is coming from somebody clawing his way back up society's ladder from the bottom rung of addiction with the help of methadone which in itself is nasty to hopefully full on sobriety. It's never too late my friends.
Man I can relate, after starting H some 15 years ago, I relapsed recently (I'd use speedballs) and in 3 weeks got in £4000 debt, I've been clean a week, back on the methadone. Crazy life and the shame is unreal
@Crosshatch1212 it's better than any street drugs. In the UK we have easy access to methadone . If you are using it properly u can get 14 day pick ups . Only if you aren't using on top . I haven't touched street drugs for years .
Hey Wendall, I follow Jeff from the start of his channel. Almost two years now. Jeff is an awesome guy, a good guy and he and all the people in his community which he created around the channel saved my live last year. I think you are an awesome guy too, with a good heart. I start following your channel and I’m looking forward to your next videos Stay real and succes will follow. Just like Jeff Big hug and lots of love from Holland Joost
I would love to but unfortunately I have a couple felonies for selling drugs when I was younger so I don’t think I’ll be able to get in the country. I’m going to try for a visa but I don’t think it’ll work
All my old friends are dead.. or in jail.. addiction stems from trauma weather it be from childhood or other events.. childhood is so important that's why I give my children max love and make them feel comfortable.. fitness education and travel is the best form medication if you have had trauma in your life.. stay strong ☀️👍
Good video pal. Jeff is doing some great work there and I wish his channel well. I visited Philly way back in 2008 and did the whole Rocky tour, but Kensington, although rough at that time, did not have an obvious open drug market. I stayed in Camden, just across the river in NJ. Camden has a bit of a reputation for high crime. Regarding the Saily app, I really wish I'd known about that when I went to the States in April, as I got totally ripped off on roaming charges & had no network for the 2nd half of my trip due to the service package running out. I tried using a Verizon pay as you go sim, but could not get it to work, and Walmart would not accept a refund.
Hello Wendall, nice to see you in Philly! I went to College in Trenton, NJ (30 min. by train from Philly!) If you're heading south; please be careful of hurricane Beryl! Hope to see you in Lebanon (Beirut, and other towns) sometimes in the future!
Been to Kensington once 3 year's ago, because my truck got a flat, and I hated that place. It was so sketchy, if I was by myself I probably wouldn't be here today typing this.
Hey Wendall, love from the northeast US. As someone who has frequented the UK (only london but plenty of times), i always say that london inner city doesnt look as bad lowkey compared to the hoods in our area. Newark, north/west philly, camden, bronx etc. Also the # of homeless you encounter. Uk has terrible and rising inequality but even with austerity policies, i feel like the grime pales in comparison atleast in London. I will say that that the decay of the north is very similar to rust belt america, and there definitely is an issue with old housing and decaying infrastructure and poverty as seen in your videos. Detroit and Gary unoccupied house rates are crazy, and all the abandoned manufacturing and steel factories up there is nuts. You def have to see that, as well as rundown rural america like west vriginia, eastern ky, and ms delta
Im single mother ill and disabled, I know depression, anxiety constant pain. But at least I have got a council house and money for my son.l live in the uk,unfortunately drugs are everywhere. It is getting really bad in South Wales I worry for the future. But It must have been so bad for this man.But well done to you for getting clean .
Great humane journalism as always,Wendall. Really interesting to hear Jeff's story. I subscribed to Jeffs channel last video, need to click a few videos to activate the algorythm. Look forward to follow his work also.
The war on drugs was a war on the people. Black Tar in Seattle was like that. You could do your dope and hold down a 9 to 5 if you worked at it. Especially if you smoked it, i was a manager and had 15 direct reports who were under me. I kept that job until i finally hit what ended up being my rock bottom. I lost that job when I told them I was having issues, which was not really legal, but eh I didn't care that much because I knew I needed to leave the area or I would never have made it out of there alive. It's heartbreaking how bad opiates have gotten since I was using. My heart goes out to anyone who's struggling now.
@Crosshatch1212 Yeah, a friend told me it was already in England and Scottland before I watched the video. FFS, as if H is not destructive enough already, people adding toxic Shite beyond what it already is, it's a mess. I mean, like you said, at least I got the real thing. It was bad enough as it was for me. F'ed my life up well and good for a while. I feel bad for anyone using it as it is right now.
What a fantastic collab between 2 great guys! 1 clarification about the word “clean”: most folks associate being clean with NO drugs or alcohol. But many, like Jeff, have medical cards where he can legally buy marijuana & mushrooms. I didn’t realize how life-saving those cards were until I heard Jeff’s full story. So when he says “clean” it means he’s no longer “on the hard drugs”. But regardless of the definition, I’m glad those cards exist for those who need them! & please do more collabs in the future!
At 4:56 lady if you don't wanna be on camera, then don't go in public. Once you're in a public area, you have no privacy and plus there's camera's everywhere nowadays. She's definitely a professional victim! 😂
These have been the best videos I've seen on here about the problems in Kensington but it's also nice to see a more positive side of the city too. He's not wrong about these drugs reaching the UK. Meth has been around for a long time here (Czech Republic) and now fentynal has crept in from further Easter European countries :// Great work man!
@@IslesGiantsYankees O’Jays, Harold Melvin, Teddy Pendegrass etc were a follow on from the Philly Soul scene. Some of the best musicians in history . I take it you think copycats like Bruce Springsteen or suchlike is better !
@@PamelaD963 Don't like Springsteen. You're just a blk person who thinks people owe you something. Besides, your Philly education is showing, I was talking about Disco. Reading is fundamental, perhaps get someone who know how to read dictate what I said for you!
Another great eye opening video, I didn’t think I’d enjoy the content that isn’t Cornwall but I actually enjoy all the work you’ve done 👍🏻 absolutely brilliant buddy 👌🏻
Fentanyl and Nitazines have already hit UK. They've been here a few years now since Afghanistan halted Poppy production. I know 2 people, 1 died and 1 nearly did.
Hi wendal U should go to Medway Kent it is so rough I used to live there for 29 years and I wouldn't recommend anyone going there it has so much crime and knife stabbing etc
It’s already in Britain, have ya been to Hull? People walking round with legs ready to drop off, it’s awful, a few have gone over on fen in Hull mate It’s so sad 😞
Maybe you can do a video about our country being invaded by illegals coming over the border? Talk about how our government is spending Billions on the illegals, yet we have so many Americans in need of assistance. Let's talk about this stuff as well please.
I read somewhere that it costs a million dollars to arrest and deport one person. The reason the money is being spent is because most Americans want the laws enforced. Deportations have doubled in just the last year.
You ever travelled round the US? Believe me while business is much bigger there the problems are also much bigger than the UK. No free healthcare, life is much better for the lower classes on the whole in the UK if they want the help and as a society the UK is soooo much more stable and safe on the streets. Thats a fact.
@@hendo19742voting doesn't change anything for the majority of people, all parties are the same.... Would reform even change their lives for the better
I don't think former drug/alcohol users should say i've been clean since April 12 or whatever date that is. Just say that's no longer part of your life. Putting a date on it just makes you more susceptible to fall off the wagon and go back on it always thinking of a date.
In an so proud of that date. I get what you are saying but I will never forget 4/20/2016. That’s the day I changed my life around when nobody thought it was possible
Congratulations on ur soberity. You should get down on ur hand and knees Thanking God for ur survival. Don't get Upset over the Police and Court system. You had.to be controlled because of ur bad decisions in life. The Police are there to help you and protect you. Take care and Stay sober. Thank God for ur blessings. Start to Thank God everyday. Amen🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Right there needs to be a shift to the reduction of DEMAND and when this happens the supply side will take of itself. Your buddy is living proof of that.
Philly is a no go zone for me. Always hated driving truck there . I consider it a foreign country not part of USA. Gotta keep your wits about you????? Violence and crime is so NORMALIZED it's accepted.
You need the wiz wit Phillips and South Philly should’ve took an Uber down there. That’s the best cheesesteak in Philly and the cool part about Phillips. It was owned by the mob the chicken man it’s in the Bruce Springsteen song Atlantic City. They blew up the chicken man in Philly last night the chicken man was Philip Tesla. He was a mob boss and he owned Phillips cheese sticks and Bruce Springsteen mention him in his song Atlantic City,
So many nice neighborhoods in Philadelphia with great bars and restaurants. Fishtown it's right next to Kensington and has maybe great bars and restaurants. Jeff don't know Philadelphia that well.
2:56 yeah, actually though north philly [the fairhill section and such] is actually west of kensington which is in the lower northeast section of philly and yeah, the badlands [fairhill to hunting park sections of north philly] was more dangerous back in the 1990s...9th and indiana ave by itself the murder capital like several years back-to-back...and back then, tthe poor irish whites in kensington were holding down their turf heavy....no more of that now though...
Philly is good and bad. Great restaurants, museums, art.... when Covid hit the crime skyrocketed. My son lived in Northern Liberties which is a good area but bordered by bad areas. We no longer go to Philly nights. Shame.
3:54 this is a lot of people’s story. I can remember taking the regional rail train from Lansdale into the city for work and the train would be full its working folk but if you took that train on the weekends it was full of tweekers heading into the city
unfortunately had to work here, realized there was actually human excrement out on the streets , someone found out i worked in Kensigton and they said god bless you
