What makes this scene work so well, is not only the hilarious performance by Steve James, but the goofy upbeat Caribbean/South African music juxtaposing the action.
How this film wasn’t shortlisted for an Oscar escapes me. The emotional range, the drama, the score, the budget… it had it all apart from all those things.
There were three of us in the local video rental store and we would discuss for an hours which movie to choose: Dudikoff or Van Damme? The frustrated einer walked up to us and asked: C'mon Folks, who of you has got the money, he'll decide! Answer: We all earned and saved it!
To me this was one of the best sequences any Cannon film. Proves that Steve James was Cannon's own blend of Arnold and Snipes before Wesley even had his heyday. RIP
I used to rent every fighting movie I could find as a kid. We had cool VHS rental place nearby, where they had a whole shelf full of these. I rented them on weekends, and watched them a bunch of times before I had to take them back. The American Ninja movies are the only ones I asked my parents to buy for me. The first two where the best ones, I must have seen them hundreds of times :)
🤣 You mean sharing a phone with the rest of the world, having to look for a payphone or ask to use a courtesy phone? If you needed a number you had to borrow a book or remember it. O and directions? I remember getting 10 different answers from 3 different people or have to decipher some cryptic list of landmarks because no one knows street numbers. Yep, those were the good ole days. 🤣
absolutely one of the best scenes in the film, which is tough cos i love every single minute of AM2. Jackson always comes in and steals the damn show man. R.I.P Steve James, what a treasure
2:37 that face always makes me laugh. Steve James was a ripped up muscle man. He would have made hundreds of action packed movies if he was still alive. He would have been featured in Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Im one of the youngest people who like this movie i was 6,7,8 or 9 watching this and 18 in 2019 i watch this in the 2006 or 2007 when they actually had good cartoons and it was my fav classic movie
@@mrbevelaqua8649 1. Who says you need to enjoy every B-movie - including obscure ones pretty much nobody remembers for a reason - to have fun?? 2. You getting so offended by this reflection of how different kids view the world (and silly B-movies) and adults makes me wonder who actually is "serious and bitter". Lighten up. Not everybody has to enjoy the sh*t they liked as a kid. Most of it *is* bad and when the hell should you be slandered for not enjoying something campy and bad??
I still think do this date Mr. Steve James....why such a clever martial arts actor and an action star like you were called to heaven in an untimely manner? I'm yet in my late twenties but a n ardent fan of martial arts movies of 80's, thus I'm pretty sure you must have had an own fan base of yours...... May you RIP 🙏🏾😢💔⚘
I forgot about this movie. I used to love this movie as teen. I loved it so much, I wore out the VHS tape. Brings back such good memories. Great cheesy fun! thanks for posting
