Manchester Orchestra is one of the most highly under rated bands of all time. They literally do not have a bad song. Not on any of the albums. The only band i never skip a song on. I have seen them live north of 10 times. They blow my mind every time.
A Manchester Orchestra show is borderline religious experience. I consider it the only church I need 😂. I was lucky enough to be at the show where this The Silence video was filmed!
Oh my God, I’ve been waiting for this song to be recognized forever. This is like one of the greatest songs that I’ve heard in forever. I try to share it and there are some people out there who are aware of it, but it doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition it should.
It definitely has and hasn’t at the same time. Look at how many views the song has, it’s mental, but as a band they’re soo underrated! This album is perfect. Andy Hulls voice is perfect. ❤
Right? They are the last band I've ever expected to see in a reaction video. What's your favorite song of theirs? Mine has got to be I can barely breathe, or where have you been. I can't decide.
I agree! I was scrolling, stopped & had to go back to c if I saw that right. Then immediately clicked on it. I have certain songs(5) tht I hav to start my day off with & this is 1 of them. Over 2 yrs now, everyday & I look as forward to it today as I did day 2. Great reaction!
The song is to his daughter. His father was not a good father to him and he sees parts of his father in him. He wants to not pass down that Curse by his Ancestry on to her. So when he said there is nothing you keep there is only your reflection he sees and knows that he doesn't want to be the same father to her that he had. It is a very poetic song for sure.
i found this song when my mom was losing her battle to cancer. the last few weeks I had left with her, I was listening to this as a relief from my normal metal/hard rock so I will always hold this song dear to me
I also found this just after my Mum had passed, it really soothed my soul and helped get me process what we had all gone through. It’s such a poignant song and I’ll love it forever. It makes me feel like I have a kindred spirit knowing that it helped you through your mums illness. Much love to you. 🖤
So sorry for cancer's ugly destruction in your family. I lost my father just after my 21st birthday in the late 80s. And, coincidentally, I saw it right before my Mom was diagnosed with Lung cancer and, subsequently, myeloma ultimately passing away. Prayers.
@@spellcaster7893❤❤ my mom was just diagnosed when I first Heard this one! Such a sad and strange similarity for several of us. Love and light tonyou from above.
“The last track is called ‘The Silence.’ This song is one of the songs I wrote - popped out of bed at one in the morning - it felt like I kinda had to get this thing down, and really, it’s a prayer to God. It’s God talking to me, God talking to my daughter, and then ultimately at the end, the finale is me praying over my daughter.“
Yeah, the context gives a lot of meaning, though still a bit open to interpretation. Basically, to me it reads like, "I'm lost and suffering, why aren't you showing me the way, why can't you just fix me" and God basically saying "Everyone can see you're suffering. Anybody can have a bad background, but you were the one who chose the same path." Then finally an apology to his daughter to say, "I'm sorry I could be passing on this bad background, but I'm going to try to be better so that you can be better." At least, that is my interpretation.
Being a father to an identical situation of your interpretation that’s very powerful stuff and I love that music can connect us all like this. These comments on this thread is why I love music. Everyone of us has so much to learn from each other if we just open up to each other. Beautiful song, great reaction and thank you all for being you. Hope everyone is having a great day. God bless you all
This song is for his daughter, imo. My belief is he’s being candid about how toxic his family is and he’s hoping she’s not cursed by it. Thank you for reviewing this. I loved watching your reaction to it. I’m so happy you felt the devastation like we did. 💗
This song is stunning... It's written, performed and produced sublimely. He has an effortlessly powerful voice and the tone and intent he sings with near brings you to tears. The whole album it's from is just spectacular, you have to get it and listen to it. It's called The Million Masks of God.
This is such a beautiful song. My friend introduced it to me about a year and a half ago...i listened to it repeatedly on the way home whilst cycling in the rain but embracing the droplets on my face. Feels.
Its his story and a conversation at the same time with some deep thoughts and reflection. Its literal poetry. Youll feel it different every year you listen to it.
Love me some Manchester Orchestra - Andy Hull is one of the finest singer/songwriters out there right now. They have a way of getting in your feels. I can imagine the lyrics hitting home to you BP to an extent. Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry There is nothing but darkness and agony I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking Let me watch you as close as a memory Let me hold you above all the misery Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here That passage right there as he speaks to his daughter still gives me chills even now. They have a huge back catalog of music - would be fantastic to hear more on here.
Andy has been making masterful music for coming up on 2 decades now. I remember seeing them open for a band called Brand New in 2005 and was my first exposure of them, and I've been a massive fan since. Great pick!
Andy Hull's vocals are absolutely torturred and hauntingly beautiful ob this! A painful reflection on his father who wasn't a good father, then a projected fear he'll pass rhat Curse to his daughter, abd an introspection to find hisvabulity to be a better father than his own.
I’ve never listened to an album that could make me cry with almost every song, or start jumping around the kitchen. There are soo many layers, elements to this album. Haunting and beautiful at the same time. My all time favourite band and no1 album. Please listen to it. Their other albums are almost as good but this one is perfection.
Glad to see u do this song. They are a kind of obscure band but I really like their sound. I discovered them myself sometime back. They have several other really good songs.i think you will like How to speak.
Love that you covered this one. I've been enjoying your Ren reactions for months now, and couldn't imagine that you'd react to this particular track. It's beautiful and haunting. Cheers!
Love this song, one of our favorites in our house. Other bands/groups/artists you may like: Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats (or just Nathaniel Rateliff), Gregory Allen Isakov, Amber Run, Dermot Kennedy, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Sleeping At Last. I have seen reactors react to Colter Wall and Tyler Childers, but very little to nothing about the others, and it's a shame, they are all talented and deserve to get more attention...just like this reaction will do for Manchester Orchestra.
Love Manchester Orchestra So exciting when others discover them. They deserve more attention than they receive. Edited to add: Gold by MO is extraordinary.
A Black Mile to The Surface is one of my Favorite Albums of all time! Highly recommend listening to these 3 songs back to back on the album: The Alien, The Sunshine and The Grocery! These 3 Songs are something special! ❤️🤘🏼
They named themselves after the city of Manchester England which has produced a music scene they thought very cool. The Bands from that city include joy division /New order, The smiths, The stone roses, The verve, The happy Mondays, 808 state, oasis, to name but a few maybe you should checkout madchester as it's known music! 😊😊
They're a Southern State Indie band .They named themselves after Manchester IN the UK 🇬🇧... Where a lot of iconic bands & music 🎶 has emerged from over the decades 👊
These guys are from Atlanta. They are very good and their music always take you on a small sonic journey. FYI, a classical orchestra will play a symphony. Love this journey with you so far 🙏👍
OMFreakingG Surprise song of the year on this channel. For some reason it took ME till last year for a friend to turn me on to this. I never get tired of it. Honestly, i can't be sure, but i MAY have requested it here, some time ago. This song was allegedly written to/for his (Andy Hull-- singer) daughter. At first I thought it was written to a significant other, turns out it's like God speaking to him...but the last verses/bridge make it clear enough that he is now speaking to his daughter ("little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry...").
Ah man, this is one on my repeat playlist. I love listening to this played loud. When i need to release emotion I play this and free dance. Thanks for reacting to this BP 🙏
You can go DEEP deep into this band - shake it out, the way, pride, dinosaur, everything to nothing… on and on… and stick to live shows bc they add something extra that makes the song come alive.
Reflections between the love of a child, the love of the creator, and the love of self, being able to interpret the silent conversations we all have between the three. The science is speaking on pharmaceutical intervention for depression etc. Looking at your new life in your arms should bring the conversation forward to know where you can correct when/if things to a sour turn in life.
I love when people discover gems like this band. Check out their songs "The Maze" and "The Alien." Also check out Amigo the Devil. Start with Hell and You
You been killing it. You and Knox are my go to reaction channels. Love seeing this. Use to listen to them a few years ago and fell of my radar good to rediscover. If you want another good different song to explore, recommend Wardruna - Healing Mountain. Super powerful visual also.
"It’s a prayer to God. It’s God talking to me, God talking to my daughter, and then ultimately at the end, the finale is me praying over my daughter." -- Andy Hull
Please cover more MO. Andy Hull is very talented and his voice is so unique. The first time I heard them I was going through withdraw and the Silence started playing. I was a complete mess by the end of the song. Simple Math, Bed Head, Know how to speak, Telepath are great songs to check out.
Raye performs Oscar Winning Tears with an orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. There’s a slim chance that you will see the similarity between this performance and that performance but still it’s worth trying to get you to react!
Wow! Glad you found your way to this band. They are hugely underrated. I went through a phase in my twenties where I listened to a lot this type of music. Just to clarify an orchestra doesn’t have to be a symphony. Traditionally it includes strings, wind instruments, percussion, etc. The term is used loosely by some more modern type bands that sort of portray that huge orchestral sound with more modern type instruments.
About fucking time. i have been ensorcelled by this song since the first time it showed up in my life. he may not have the best voice in music but it's still one ofmy favorites
I disagree about his voice. Is it the most polished? No. Does it have the most range? No. His voice is absolutely perfect for the music and it evokes so much emotion. There is also something beautiful about imperfection.
