💜💜Not Today is inspired by one of the famous quotes by Martin Luther King Jr., “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” It's all about fighting authority and "breaking the glass ceiling." Its 2017 releases coincided with civil unrest in South Korea as a response to governmental corruption. RM confirmed as much when asked about the song by the Korea Herald. "I wrote the lyrics for BTS so we do not stay silent against social issues and injustice and continue to solve it and raise problem," he said. "We talk about social issues, read books and meet with experts and ponder together. We still have a long way to go, but we will think hard and embrace criticism." The lyrics of "Not Today" speak of overcoming obstacles and keep fighting, while instilling hope in oneself. In the opening lyrics, RM calls out to "all the underdogs in the world." It discusses the theme of anti-establishment that was featured in their previous singles "No More Dream" and "N.O.", through lines like, "A day may come when we lose/ But it is not today/ Today we fight!" During the chorus, the band speak of rallying against injustice, corruption and irrationality; "Don’t kneel, don’t cry, raise your hands Not not today." The line, "Break the glass ceiling that cages you" references the idea of breaking all invisible barriers that stop people from succeeding. The lyrics addressed social and political issues (they are trying to rally the youth and let them know life is worth fighting for, possibly in response to the extremely high rates of youth suicide in their country from a generation that feels lost, unempowered and desperate.) No green screen here, by the way. We have behind-the-scenes videos of all their music videos and most of what you see in their music videos is real scenery and actual props. Their production team is on another level. They also built that glass platform they dance on, as far as I remember.

No green screen, you can go watching the making of the video. They used drones, a big piece of acrylic, and shot at a mine in Korea. They froze their asses off. I do remember that.

Not Today live is one of the best BTS songs ever. Army gets the stadium rocking and stomping to the pounding drums and you feel it throughout your body. Army bombs are just waving back and forth to the beat. Awesome experience. If they ever play the SuperBowl this should be their opening song!

Perhaps you might want to see the behind the scene shooting MV “episode” vids. Also before 2019, only Bangtan subs channel had Eng subs. Bangtantv finally started adding eng subs only later, for these behind the scene vids, that for mainly most, there was no green screen, everything filmed was at locations as well. Also would love for you guys to delve deeper at times into the so meaningful inspirational lyrics. Just to let you know, in this song, when they sang “if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl”, it was a quote taken from of Martin Luther King speech! Especially RM, who is one of the main lyricist for many songs, is well read and gets his inspiration from so many things he’s read or seen. Also many of BTS songs have such meaningful inspirational content, as well as theI MV’s that usually have even more messages that aren’t easily noticed at times, that there are vid made expressly for the purpose of explaining the deeper meaning, especially when it comes to Korean words, or phrases that at times require more in depth explanation. I recommend dkdktv, (explained by a Korean), or Bookish Theories, and or xCeleste, to name a few. 👍🙏🥰

Always amazes me how RM and Suga, underground rappers, dance like this!! What rappers/producers can dance like that?! J-Hope, dancer, learned to rap. Others learned to dance and sing. Together they are bullet proof!!!! They get hit for sure (haters), but even if they have to crawl (lyrics) they keep going. Suchwita’s episode today, Suga with Jin, goes into how crazy how they came together, how close they are, and how they never fail to show up for each other 100% when it’s time to work.

You’re going to have to change your scoring system as BTS is above a 10 in 99.9999+ of their songs, mvs & lives. And the only reason I don’t give an entire 100% is due to personal preferences & style. There is soooooo much content that it will take years to get thorough it all. There’s lyrics, mvs, lives & behind the scenes, all for one song. It’s going to be a hard choice for you to decide what to choose.

NOT TODAY is my song! It's the first BTS song that hooked me and I was obsessed with it for weeks on weeks before I finally got motivated to look into more of their music. Everytime I hear it I get reminded of my baby ARMY days. 😊💜

If you're interested in behind the scenes stuff for MVs, most of BTS's MVs have something called a shooting sketch. If you search of the song name and add 'shooting sketch', you'll see what goes on on filming day. It's impressive to see that the things that seem like it might be green screens and CGI are often practical stuff at it's base with editing on top. They were on location for this MV and it was really a beautiful place. That thing they danced on was a giant circle of ice at the quarry. It's really cool. If you check it out, we'd love to see your reactions and thoughts. Shooting sketches are kind of like dance practice videos in that they're an add perk that comes with songs that got MVs.

They do different missions, challenges, games, activities, or team building things. Very entertaining, funny and creative. You can understand more of their dynamics, how they work together (or sabotage each other lol). You don't have to watch the episodes in order. Episode 24 is an iconic one, they do a zombie run/haunted house thing while completing missions.

Whenever I need a resilience-boost I listen to "Not Today". BTS can make me feel like anything is possible. I love their united front pushing back against the haters and how they actually ARE bulletproof. It makes me feel stronger to see them so strong.

BTS is not just hype songs but hype songs that could easily be the soundtrack for social, societal, or even personal internal change. There is no coincidence in the timing of this song on an album with their song Spring Day (absolutely requires an explanation video because it’s stuffed full of references to the Sewol Ferry tragedy where hundreds of korean teens died due to govt mismanage and corruption) a song that got them blacklisted on a govt list of subversive artists. This song is what I listen to when I’m upset about injustice like Sewol. A song that sounds like marching soldiers, choreography (which is worth watching the dance practice for it’s epic) that has BTS/etc being shot down by gun fire repeatedly but get back up. This is a song worth waking up to every morning.

This song definitely became my theme song when I first became ARMY and I still look at the video to get charged when I’m low fuel because the energy is insane. Definitely one of my favorite choreographies they’ve done over the years. And this is not shot with a green screen. They were in the mountains. They have another version of this MV that’s the same energy, equally fire.

I love their lyrics, another song that they sang while they were younger and I really like the lyrics is, The Attack on Bangtan Sonyandon (sp?), but in they lyrics it say, will swallow them without fear, I feel like BTS, had to have that mentality while early on trying to make it in the industry!!! I just love their music, lyrics, messages (to ARMY/fans & haters). Their choreography to these BA songs, totally rock!!! Thank you for sharing.

When CoVid hit, they used some green screens cuz you couldn't travel or have large groups together, etc. But this one is not a green screen. They will build entire complicated sets just to keep all the effects practical. (The only exception outside of Covid times I can think of right now is Idol).
