Skepta was the first rapper in the UK to blow up big time into the mainstream. He played a massive part in growing the fanbase on UK Rap/Grime in general. Very important in this thing.
I’d say skepta was the first to blow up outside of the UK and to global dizzee did a bit in the US in the Houston area but wasn’t anything close to what skeppy did
King of Grime was undoubtedly Skepta at that time. Probably always has been. Stormzy was ‘biggest’ in grime numbers-wise for a while, and tried to run with the ‘king’ title, but that was after this. Skepta is the king of grime.
JME was spittin before skepta, skepta is jme older brother, he was originally just a dj, their crew was called Meridian, skepta was the dj in the crew, eventually picked up the mic. other meridian members include President T, Big H, Bossman Birdie, &more
I think the reason he jumped on a Wiley beat was because this was around the time they had a bit of beef- check out skepta- in the country (Wiley diss)
LFG KSO been a long time coming bruh, Sketpta is the OG of grime, OG of cross over and the best to do it, OG of Afro beats grime/hip hop 🔥 🔥🔥his a Naija Chief with a deep catalogue
Respect from the UK. Surprised you haven't checked out Millionz, tracks like Lagga, Badnis, Right Dere, Punchline Rap. Also Abra, tracks Baby, On Deck and the remix, Spin this Coupe, Cadabra Freestyle. All🔥🔥🔥
i thought he did Abra but it was his brother, Screwface Jean lmao... Yes Kso you absolutely need to react to some ABRA.... also pls react to Knucks - home! its a banger
Wiley the Godfather of Grime. King of grime? Its difficult. My vote would go to Dizzee Rascal but I could see Wiley / Skepta / Stormzy / Kano or Ghetts (all for different reasons). It depends what you value. Some people value mainstream. Some value battle rap. Some value longevity. Some value peak. Some value sets and freestyles, some value tracks.
I would add that at the time, Skepta was the king of grime. For me now it would be Kano, but there’s a lot of rappers who could be debated. Skepta was pretty much the clear king in 2009.
@@winnietheJEDIPIMP I mean I don’t think he is, like I said I’d go Dizzee, but if you have any value in mainstream or tracks he’s up there. No one has done or accomplished what stormzy has.
Yo Wassup KSO, so glad youre reacting to this one! Some more grime essentials (IMO) to check out: - Shellington crescent (Ghetts) - Ghetts, Akala, Lowkey, Scrapz, J hus - all of them have daily duppys you should watch - Friendly (J hus) - My story (Krept and Konan) - Integrity (JME) - 96 Fuckries (JME) - Class of Deja (Ghetts, Kano, D double E)
You should check out his SBTV freestyle with BBK(his crew boy better know in case you didn’t already know that) also has a few other heads in it that you haven’t come across yet. Skepta been in the game longer plus he used to be on decks
Do u mean the 100M BBK SBTV cypher or the one with Skepta Shorty double S Frisco Tempa T JME Jammer C Gritz and Jammin cause I think the second one is the best grime cypher and I’ve never seen anyone react to it. Wish it had a shorter name
Skepta is the a GOATED OG of UK rap music. Pretty much untouchable in the scene. You should react to his diss tracks with Devilman, it would also help you understand some of the references :)
Jme and Skepta came along at about the same time. Skepta was a dj at 1st but switched to mcing on Wileys advice after the police confiscated Skeptas records (looking for evidence in lyrics lol).
The instrumental is Wiley's production and he has a song on it called where's my brother, Skepta is using the same flow Wiley used in the song. Can you react to English Frank/frantic frank he has the maddest flows and was part of the peoples army with Akala, Lowkey, Logic and Mic Righteous but has a load of classics. Skinnyman an old ukhiphop rapper and battle rapper.
Also the ‘come on come on’ was a reference to d double e, a grime legend who said ‘just move to the beat come on come on, ladies crew betta getta move onnnn’
He shouts Wiley at the beginning just as a shout out to Wiley. Maybe something more to it like its Wiley's beat (I don't know that it is just speculating) but either way its defo a shout out, respect kind of thing.
The king of grime changes everytime there is a war. WILEY is the godfather and the gate keeper and when he thinks your getting to the top as in possible king he sends for you and you clash him after that it’s like you have been initiated into the running to take the crown.
The all round spitter any track eater Durrty Goodz is 👑 of grime If you want another Westwood freestyle to react you should definitely checkout Durrty's
if you want to watch some crazy freestyles & see what grime really is watch Westwood tv Ghetts & Devlin or just Ghetts on Westwood Ghetts was a savage back in the day when he went on radio shows to freestyle with other rappers he would always out verse them or hog the mic to just keep going to one up everyone in the room, skepta & ghetts fell out because he kept doing it you can find the audio on youtube skepta just walked out lol The only person i seen that could stay on ghetts level was Devlin, Ghetts used to love rapping beside Devlin because he knew how good Devlin was & always got hyped listening to him. For me no one was better than old ghetts back in those days he would never run out of bars & would get more & more aggressive when going in, Ghetts today is far more evolved & found his own style/pocket to rap in but back in the day he was insane
This was at a time wiley and skepta were having a 'beef'. Purely for promo of microphone champion releasing. Taking the flow and beat of wileys 'wheres my brother'
CONTEXT FOR THE JA RULE BAR….. Yeah J A rules (Joseph Adenuga is skeptas name) But it’s Boy Better Know (Skeps music crew) Not Murder Inc… (obvs Ja Rules ting) 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dizzee Rascal is the King of grime. Facts. He never lost a clash/battle in the underground grime scene and he was the first uk grime artist to release an album. Boy in the corner went number 1.
I think dizzee rascal has to take the crown for King of grime in my opinion, boy in the corner really blew up the grime scene in the UK from underground to mainstream! JME and Skepta along with Wiley were all about doing bits at the same time. however ..... based on the length of time he's been in the scene aswell as his technical ability my king of grime on ability is ghetts. If you really want a throwback for ghetts! Check out his Westwood freestyle with the black glasses on, aswell as his Westwood with Kage! In my opinion it's ghetts best stuff
You have the best reactions on RU-vid and I love how u actually listen to the bars. You need to react to big narstie fire in the booth part 1, 2 and 3. Also p money road rage 1 and 2
Basically in the start technically Skepta sends shots at Wiley an old bbk (boy better know) member, and he says the devil ain't working and no more wun my long again (mimicking devilman, another grime artist who was big around the time, which he used to do often when they had beef) skepta clashed, rap battled for you Americans, devilman in lotm II(lord of the mics 2) probably one of the most known clashes if you actually listen to grime, I'm assuming Skepta says he isn't working because he beat devilman in this clash and devilman hasn't sent for him or dropped anything about Skepta at the time of this Westwood freestyle (I'm young but from what I've been told what I said in the end of this para is somewhat correct, I think. If anyone knows more please be free to correct me)
The beat he’s rapping over is from Wiley’s album that came out on the same day as his and pays homage to their brotherhood. That’s why I think he said Wiley at the start
At this point was alot of mic beef boy better know vs the movment Skepta has done it all bro now hes just having fun getting him on a song now is a huge stamp for any artist that aint from the era
JME and Skepta are brother, skepta being older. JME was into the music thing earlier while skepta was still selling drugs. He put him on and the rests history
Wiley IS the Godfather of grime, 100% unquestionable. does that mean hes the best NO just The/A founding farther. The king of grime in my opinion tho is a ever changing title. And at this point in time Skepta was THE king of grime without a doubt. nowdays some would say stomzy is the king of grime but thats alot more debatable then whem skepta was at the top. But yeah king of grime is like a title that is ever changing and normaly taken by the best grime artist at that moment (or whoever shouts it the loudest in stormzys case xD)
Skepta and ghetts had a battle it on you tube ghetts vs skepta should come up abiut 9 and half minutes maybe 12 not sure been a while but it was a old school set
Westwood as a person is very questionable at the least and not in a good way but the platform he’s built is goated can’t deny that got so many great UK sessions
