Fun fact: Jimmy was SO nervous before the recording, he's been a Tina fan for years and was absolutely terrified prior to doing this. Worked out well lol
The song was recorded for a TV Ad for the National Rugby League (NRL) in the late 80's and I think the only live performances was the Grand Final although Jimmy has it on one of his albums I think Tina does to.
Best part about this isn't how well their voices mesh, it's about how well they just seem to vibe off each other and enjoy it. There's no front seat/back seat, no ego, just two people complementing each other perfectly (edit: i wrote this before you went and said exactly the same thing heh)
Hope you don’t mind me saying but you are clearly such a proud dad, your whole demeanour is different with your daughter there it’s great to see. She seems absolutely lovely and intelligent too!
Hi there Des, it’s so lovely to meet you! 🙂 Your Dad has been holding the fort down admirably in your absence and he’s managed to recruit a whole heap of us new Aussie subscribers. We’re loving his work. 🇦🇺
Hey Desiree so lovely to see you!!! A great song to start with.. and also the fab Aussie artist Johnny Diesel on guitar 🎸 love your enthusiasm for Aussie music x this clip was filmed for the Australian rugby grand final with Tina ( I think it was around the time thindersome was being filmed but happy to be corrected on that). They have the male and female version of the same voice .. when they belt those notes they could stop traffic.
💕💕This was done for extended add,👍for Australia Rugby League.🇦🇺The add that hit our screens,💃features her on the 🇦🇺Sydney Harbour Bridge 💃and interacting with the players.🇦🇺She sang it at the Grand Final 💃with the crowded stadium 💃singing along.🥰Deasl was on the guitar.💋💋💋💋💋💋🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Tina’s 1989 version was solo. She teamed up with Barnesy in 1992 for a version that they used to promote the rugby league season that year. The original was actually by Bonnie Tyler in 1988.
johnny rock and the og's and dez whatta line up. loved this reaction. we know johnny. catch anytime you can with your family and we appreciate your honest reactions
Watch Tina perform this at the 1994 NRL Grand Final. Her song originally but whole generations of Australians know this as the NRL anthem of the day. Australians loved Tina as one of their own, watch her face light up at the Grand Final performance as she hears the Australian footy crowd singing her song back at her. This collaboration was epic tho, an all time match really.
As a father of a young daughter, it was obvious to me how much it meant to you to have your daughter be apart of something that you’re doing. An Aussie had a big part in Tina’s comeback
Hi Johnny and Desiree. So nice to see Desiree for the first time. This song was first a solo hit for Tina Turner, and it was later used by the NRL to promote the then NSWRL / ARL in Australia. They must have thought it strange to have their game's theme song done by an American and by a woman. Rugby League was seen as a "manly" realm in those days. So, they got Jimmy Barnes to record a new version of the song. Jimmy being a fan of American style "soul" music didn't change anything from Tina's version. This version with both of them together is "Simply the Best" though. The song is better as a duet. I love how Desiree pointed out the matching outfits. Guys like me and Johnny never notice stuff, you know like clothes and jewelry. We'll talk more about NRL later. Oh you guys should check out the music of the guy who was playing the guitar. The guy with the nice hair. His name was Johnny Diesel. Actually his name is Mark Lizotte and he was from the U.S. and he came to Australia and used the name Johnny Diesel. Also he has lost his nice hair, but he's still a good looking dude. Here is a link - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ePWpolxEKiw.html This was from when he was younger.
Aussies can have a terrible sense of humour sometimes. I remember years ago we were watching an Aussie comedy show and they were taking Barnsy and Tina off and because their voices are so strong and loud, they were singing and next minute they blew their own heads off. At first we looked at it in total shock and then burst into laughter. Australians are really out there and would put something up on a screen that many other countries would never do. Yep that's us Aussies, we go from shock/horror to laughter as long as it's being done in a comical way and no one is being harmed.
Never a truer word said when you are talking about your kids, you do have to grab the moments when you can because you do become a second thought when life's realities takes over.
Sadly even in Australia this version is not really played much at all on the Radio stations unless it is some big event going on. Every other day they play the traditional solo Tina Turner version.
Ahh Johnny Diesel on guitar I see. Yep he's another amazing Aussie singer however we also share him with America. He was born in America and came out to Australia at age 5.
These two are absolute legends! Another great Aussie vocalist is Anthony Callea - him performing The Prayer either alone or together with our Tina Arena is just phenomenal. You really must check it out!!!
Glad to see Desi reacting to her first Aussie artist in Jimmy Barnes with Tina Turner. The recording of this so g was used for the promotion of the NRL (National Rugby League) in Australia back in the late 80's early 90's.
Yep just think usa promoter's rejected him the guitar 🎸 player is johnny diesel he's jimmy's brother in law and was born in usa but Aussie's as came out as a kid If you want to see Jimmy do more duo's with other super star as we'll look these up John Farnham and Jimmy barnes Singing when there something wrong with my baby live version also guitar 🎸 another Aussie solo singer who is Jimmy brother inlaw John is Aussie ledgen was named the voice sings every genre's people around the world came to sing with him as he didn't travel often because he's family came first and couldn't stand being away every wrote songs about it this is a cold chisel song they both sing together or at their own concert's Also what Jimmy barnes sing with ledgen Aussie band inxs Michael Hutchison title good times live version Cheers Jimmy has 4 decade of hits and john has 5 decades of hit and dispite competing for the public are good friends as you'll see in the performance hope this helps a bit 🦘🇦🇺👍

Lovely to meet you Des, we were all starting to think your old man might be a little nuts living in the basement talking about his imaginary daughter LOL. She is a beautiful daughter Johnny, your pride is so obvious mate.
The guitarist "DIesel" (John Lizzote} is actually Barnsey's Brother-in-:Law. I really do recommend my favourite Barnsey song "Stone Cold". Check it out.
G’day Desiree and Johnny, Radio Birdman, The Saints, Hunters and Collectors, Divinyls are well worth checking out. If you want a ballad give the Cosmic Psychos a listen 😂 live at The Tote. Also the Hoodoo Gurus.
It’s really touching to see the relationship you and your daughter have, but I couldn’t stand the video - pausing every 3 seconds for every random comment is just far too irritating…I’m gonna just watch the original video
