it's not though,he literally makes fun of everyone including even himself with a fake character obsessed with celebs. Leigh is actually chill and normal irl. The whole show is a parody.
Anthony Costa was in a boy band called Blue who were in the charts around the same time as Craig David. Such a great interaction between those two in this. The real Craig David (along with others) have since gone to the press and accused Leigh Francis for making his life miserable.
Only when it was fashionable. Craig David used to love that he was being parodied on Bo! Selecta and even got Leigh Francis to introduce him onstage at one of his gigs. Then the world went all pathetic and everything was suddenly racist then he started chatting shit about it being a racist impression of him...
@@rnw2739Piss off! Really?! The only remotely racist thing could be the lips... and yet he used that for Melanie C and every other act out there, not that the talentless hack journos who do little to bo research will care about. The same ones who copy each others articles on trying biscuits from different supermarkets lmao
Exactly. There was a character called Dennis Pennis years ago who was able to troll celebs as he had a BBC microphone. Some got it straight away, others walked off, but the ones who complained or hit back just ended up looking foolish.
I'm a big fan of Craig David, especially the early days. He blames Bo' Selecta, but the real reason his fans went off him is because after his third album he totally changed his style of music drastically, and also went off to America, good on him, but then he was doing very little back home in the UK where the majority of his fans were, so when he returned and his albums weren't selling, it wasn't because he was being made fun of on Bo' Selecta - which he himself joined in with, and was pretty good friends with Leigh Francis - it was because no one liked his new style and he had left his fanbase with nothing new, which alienated his once loyal fans. If he had stuck to his roots I'm sure he may have been just as popular still. He's not shyte, he can still sing, and having been to some of his shows a couple of years ago, any new stuff seemed to be in keeping with his UK garage roots. He even claimed that it was racist, which is bollox because Leigh never did blackface, all his characters that are of black origin he did with a skin tone within the Caucasian range (probably more of a tanned skin colour) and did not make fun of anyone's skin colour, all he did was make fun of, and exaggerated, the individuals characteristics. And Craig didn't mind the 50k that he got paid for ITV for being on the show. He wasn't whining how it was ruining his career then. Don't blame someone else for your career going tits-up on someone else when it's your own fault. Nobody wanted American style R&B Craig David. They wanted UK garage, can I get a Re-Rewind Craig David. Proper Bo, I tell thee.
Oh really? I had not known that at all. So he is a bit of a shill is Craig? That is disappointing to hear but not at all surprising. Loads of celebs out there who would show up yo an envelope opening for the publicity snaps and of course the paycheck.
@@ButWhatIfItIs it is a shame because I'm still a garage head in my old age, and still listen to his old stuff, and he seems like a really nice guy but all that stuff with Leigh Francis, who I can take or leave - I don't think he's amazing nor do I think he's shite, not really got an opinion in him either way - but I side with Leigh on this one. Craig just didn't want to admit he had F'ed up and took his career down a wrong turn, so lashed out at something be initially endorsed and used it to justify why his career was slipping down the pan. And then be tried bringing race in to it, that's when I lost respect for him, I come from a mixed race background family, much like Craig David does, his father is black, his mother Caucasian, so accusing Leigh Francis of being racist was a bit of a low blow, It was during the black lives matter heyday, so I think he thought it would buy him some brownie points (no pun intended) even though no racism had occured. You don't do that. That wasn't on. You don't use race as a trump card to get out of jail free and win your way back, especially if it a situation you caused yourself by ballsing up your own career. What he did was like this. Imagine, in around 1960, if Elvis Presley had basically given up the Rock and Roll that he was known for, moved to Scotland and started doing 18th century folk songs, but expecting to keep the same fan base, same record sales, the same popularity, but then getting p*ssed off when none of those things happened, but then blaming that on popular 1960s comedian, John Byner, for doing an impression of him on 'The Steve Allen Comedy Hour'. And then accusing him of doing a black and white minstrel show, when he didn't. That's the best analogy I can think of. The worst thing was, around 2012-ish he settled things with Leigh Francis, they both kissed and made up, so that should be the end of it,.a few years pass, then around 2018-ish, Craig David, during an interview, he is the one who brought it all back up during said interview, and that's when he started accusing Leigh of being mean and racist and all the other crap he was coming out with. Even though things had been settled. Leigh hadn't been doing the character for many years by then, Leigh never mentioned it in interviews, and in his eyes they were both in friendly terms, they had both attended a mutual friends wedding party together, and no bad blood. But again, Craig's career wasn't doing too well still, and I think it was just a way to drum up extra publicity for his tour dates and music sales. Any publicity, bad or good, sells your records when you are in the music industry. Great singer, usually a good person, but by the sounds of things, can be a bit of a ¢*u*n*t* when he wants to be.
The only blackface I remember him doing was Michael Jackson's doctor. Yet, they said Francis was racist for the Jackson skits. But, the way I remember it, those Jackson masks he wore were white.😂
- when the impression gets more famous than the original......there's no way Craig Davis could get on stage and everybody not shout "Cwaig Davish".....
He's a mardarse. My brothers friend went to college with him in Southampton and she said he was a right knob, proper up his own arse. Bo selecta was hilarious, and in no way racist! He was just jealous because people loved bo selectas Craig David more than they did him! 😂😂
Craig David’s butt hurt lack of sense of humour about it didn’t do him any favours, if he embraced it like Mel B he would of won the hearts and minds of more people, regardless he’s doing fine now with a career resurgence
The difference between Mel B and his shows how up his own ass he is! She loved it and carried on appearing, I bet she would now. Eddie Murphy connection there!
Craiaag David really did cry and whinge that Bo’Selecta ruined his life. What he doesn’t seem to remember is that Craaaig David willingly appeared alongside Leigh Francis is a sketch on the show. Go figure.
Great show one of the best. Please can you react to UK comedy "Facejacker" starring now famous global actor and comedian Kayan Novak. It's a show where he disguises himself as eccentric characters and fun Trolls the public. Good clip to start on might be "Dufrais At The Baseball Game | Facejacker " ( the 8.47 minute clip) or "Brian Babonde Takes a Painting Class | Facejacker "
just in case you didnt know the joke is that Craig David sings or says his own name multiple times in loads of his songs. That aside he has some absolute bangers and was a massive influence in popularising Mainstream UK Garage... i urge you to listen to artful dodger ' Re-wind (when the crowd say Bo-Selecta)' in your own time of course to get where this comes from.. i love bo-selecta but i also love uk garage and that artful dodger album is one of my faves of all time
'Come on Kes!' Proper British if you know you know. 'A Kestrel for a Knave' by Barry Hines. Many of us read it in school and then we'd watch the film 'Kes' I highly recommend you watch it.
Bo Selecta merged into the Keith Lemon sketch show. Lemon’s best work has been the Keith and Paddy’s picture show and without a doubt celebrity juice. If not already Bloomer check those out
At first, Craig David well and truly rode the Bo Selecta wave and it helped him a lot I'm sure. He even played along for a bit and appeared in Season 2 alongside the character from the show. Then he changed his mind and said it felt like bullying. Then said he'd made peace with the creator. Then changed his mind again. Even he cant even decide if he likes it or not. He would have been better just going along with it from the start and sticking to it.
Craig David complains that Bo Selecta ruined his career but he was happy enough to guest on the show just before it was cancelled. It was his lack of a sense of humour when reactioning to the show that ruined his career, not the show itself.
His sales went down due to the British public not taking him seriously, after seeing him mocked. The reason he was "happy enough" to go on the show was thinking if he laughed along with it, the public would be won over. It's similar to George Michael appearing as a cop in his next video, after being caught in a lewd act in toilets by a cop. Bo Selecta did wreck his career.
@@MrVidification Oh. I haven't heard about that. He'll never be as big as before. Personally, I can't stand his singing. I just felt sorry that happened to him.
@@barrymitchell6444 If you can create great tracks then a parody won't matter. It's not unusual for major celebrities to be made fun of in comedy. Mel B didn't care and featured on the show too. It never hurt her career. If you take a joke lightly and join in, it won't hurt your reputation. Act annoyed and you'll come across as having an ego, and the general public won't be on your side. If he had an issue at the time then he would have told them to stop. He didn't. Instead he waited to blame someone after his career faded. He wasn't producing great albums. Critic reviews were largely negative and would have far more impact. He found someone to blame. I think with his comeback he made it into the music chart though, so the rule is really to never take yourself seriously, and just focus on the music
Who?? I'm on about Keith Lemon, who did the side splitting hilarious shows Through The Keyhole with Keith Lemon, Shopping with Keith Lemon, the Keith Lemon Sketch Show and Keith Lemon:The Film
The real Craig David had no hard feelings about this. In fact when he was to perform at London's Royal Albert Hall. (A really great place to be asked to perform), Craig asked Leigh Francis, the guy behind the mask, if he'd go on stage first pretending to be him. That's how much love between these 2 people.
He sort of explained why he didn't sing "Craaiiig DAvid!" here in that he has to pay royalites (£52) every time he does it, alone with the thumb thing. None of this is explained fully though - that's Bo Selecta's style where nothing is explained fully, or even at all some times..
I saw Craig David when he was a hot young thing in music and he was great. His appearance on Bo Selecta in hindsight was ill advised, but he did what he did, presumably understanding that the piss would be taken out of him. His reactions to a dip in his career - blaming the Bo Selecta show…didn’t look good for him. He is a bright fella, but perhaps his ego got the better of him. Mel B on the other hand took her characterisation in good humour. You should check out her character…a rough and ready Northern girl….pretty funny.
@@jakell99 - No, not too old at all…I have just turned 70 and I agree that the inspiration for Mell B’s caricature is straight from Les Dawson, but for all that - he does it so well
when i was a kid anytime we were on a bus and we heard a horn we would all sing 'bo selecta beep beep beep' Uk bus chants can get wild though. Very hit or miss show.
Mate you need to watch meatloaf meets avid ( bo selecta ) that’s how to take a joke ❤😂 , probably too short to do a reaction but I think you’ll like it, peace out fella
Craig David actually had a little resurgence a few years ago. Didn't listen to a single thing of his, but that is nice for him... the show really did kinda f*ck his career a bit 😂
Craig David would have disappeared into E list celebrity oblivion if It had not been for Leigh Francis' sketches of him on Bo Selecta! Great series, in most cases the characters were nothing at all like the real people they were based on, this made it absurdly funny.
Yep Craig David is complaining again. The show 1. Destroyed his career 2. He was forced to leave the country 3. The show is racist. The truth, Craig David had no career before the show parody, the only thing that keeps Craig in the news these days is complaining.
it was only a joke........bo selecta makes impressions and jokes out of every celebrity. Leigh stated he doesn't hate anyone he's parodied. It's just for laughs. Also I love bo selecta and I don't hate craig david either. He seems to think everyone who saw that skit ''hates'' him. Iv'e never hated on craig david. Not once. 🤷♀
there's an hour long bo selecta craig david compilation on youtube you could react to. the craig david bits were the best part of the show anyway. proper bo (/watch?v=iDd7IYxlpCA)
He made fun of so many really famous people back then, most were people he liked. the difference tho was that the majority of the others he done would appear in the sketches with him, or in the Charity singles etc for a laugh. It was the fact that Craig got so offended that made him look like a twat😌
Craig David takes/took himself _way_ too seriously. Trouble is, nobody else does/did. The Craig David skits were great, the Mel B ("I'm common as MOOK!") were even better, IMO! 😉😉
