It is a bit like a battlefield of old when opposing armies would shout insults at each other to wind each other up. The Vikings and Saxons did it to each other, so it has just continued on.

If you're looking for a club with passionate supporters, Newcastle United are arguably the best fanbase in England, and its potentially the very start of the most exciting time in the club's history. They've just been taken over by PIF consortium, and became the richest sports team in the world in the process. They are tipped to dominate English and European football in future, after over a decade of negelct from their previous owner, a true rags to riches story in the making.

Beer and football are both culturally British things separately but mix easily and well. However I would say the things you are seeing in this video are more of a combination of passion for the team or sport and mob mentality, leading to creative scenes that mainly have no lasting damage.

You looked puzzled at the reference to "Escape to Victory"... its a old football related war film, that centered around a football game between POWs and the Germans and an escape from the dressing room, arguably the worst film ever made but sprinkled with stars like Pele, Micheal Caine and Slyester Stallone - the films only redeeming feature - it gave rise to the best quiz question ever - "Who was heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world, Won a Congressional Medal of Honour and played in goal for England" --- Sylvester Stalone (Rocky, Rambo and Escape to Victory) I'll get my coat

The jnterestjng part is that there's strictly no alcohol to be had in the stadium before, during or after the match. Any alcohol has to be consumed away from the ground. Many will go for a drink before and after the match. As a result, the matches where there are the strongest rivalries are almost always very early kick-offs so they don't have as much time to get drunk before the game. But, the songs will be sung no matter what state of inebriation there ie.

The Falklands war was in 1982. Over 250 UK military died. Many remember it and the loss to their families of soldiers and sailors, many Welsh. (The French President Mitterrand embargoed the sale of French weapons to Argentina but had already supplied Argentina with Exocet missiles that killed over 80 Brits. The French owned company that made the Exocets breached the presidential embargo, stayed in Argentina during this war, continued to train the Argentinians in their use of Exocets and somehow 3 launch sites that didn’t work and couldn’t be fixed by the Argentinians before the war, suddenly started working and launched missiles.)

In answer to your question, what if you take alcohol out of the equation? The British would cease to exist. You're seeing the British as they've always been. The night before Agincourt (in 1415) the French were in church praying for victory, while the British were making their way towards the battlefield, pissed, chanting and aggressive. Guess who won?

Stay neutral one of those chants you were clapping to was anti Scottish-Sad Scottish B*astard-You do not want to isolate any potential followers. Although alcohol does tend to be downed pre match, many supporters do actually chant like that without alcohol, the buzz of being at a game is sometimes better than that of having alcohol. Yes they were in Germany, it's not personal against Germans just a piss take, i'd say that in most instances it is just a piss take nothing more, except for the Argies that's completely different.

(Not sure about one of them though) You said you wanted to know who that Scottish Guy they sang about was and he was the Scottish Manager in those days. They were England fans mocking the Scots in their own Stadium in Glasgow as England qualified for The World Cup Finals in Moscow and Scotland was eliminated by.......England:) In the old days there used to be 134,000 Scottish fans at that match between Scotland and England.

Gordon Strachan = Scot who played for various Scottish and English teams, notably Manchester United and Leeds United (famous for being enthusiastic tacklers, enjoying the odd internecine punch up now and again). Then Gordon went into football management. Here fans are referring to his management of the Scotland team 2013-2017. 2018 the World Cup took place in Russia. Hence the Scots ‘aren’t going to Moscow’. Scotland vs England matches are infamous. Although the Scotland team rarely features many Premier League players of huge note, the Scots play like men possessed and as a team. This World Cup, though, the Scotland team includes Andrew Robertson of Liverpool (yay); John McGinn of Aston Villa; Scott McTominay of Man Utd; Billy Gilmour on loan to Norwich from Chelsea and Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and the only PL player I’ve heard of who’s from the Isle of Man. Scotland might qualify for the World Cup group B with play offs against England, USA and Iran. The Scots have to beat Wales and Ukraine first to get into this group stage. Nothing much rhymes with USA but there’s a fair chance there’ll be a chant featuring their nickname. NB - ‘septics’ doesn’t rhyme with much either.
