So sorry about the overlaying for this episode guys. I didn't stretch the screen enough so I had to cover it more than I would have liked to. I'll try and fix that next episode. Hope everyone is well!😎💓👍

The Doctor was played by Geoffrey Palmer, who died 2/3 years ago. He was one of those actors who appeared in numerous things, including a Bond film, and was simply incapable of ever giving a duff performance. Wonderful performer.

In a 1999 interview, John Cleese said that he had asked the manager of The Savoy what the worst problem was for a hotelier. The manager said it was dealing with guests that died. Cleese named the corpse "Mr. Leeman" in honor of the Savoy manager.

😅 Oh Connor, this has to be the funniest episodes of the entire show, so much going on and so brilliantly written, not a second is wasted. This is a masterclass in comedy writing. A great reaction to a fantastic episode from this classic show. You should do full episode reactions to Father Ted, the writers of that show have said that Fawlty Towers was one of their inspirations for Father Ted, I think you'd love it. Great work buddy ❤ Oh by the way...No Need to apologise for your admiration for the lovely Polly, your face lights up everytime you see her, nothing wrong in that, if seeing her makes you happy, then you run with it !! I've also noticed in a few of your reactions you apologise for snorting... hey you're having a great time and that fun and enjoyment comes through so please you've no need to keep justifying or apologising, don't be so hard on yourself....it's all Good Connor, laughter is the best therapy, you're having a great time and that's all that matters.

Your reaction to Polly is completely normal for any breathing heterosexual male. I fell in love with Polly in The Builders episode when she lay curled up asleep on the bed. She evoked such a feeling of tenderness & joy in just her very existence that I could have cried. There's something about her (or I suppose Polly the character) which transcends beauty . Of course I cannot know what Connie Booth was like in real life, but if she was anything like Polly & I were in Cleese's position I'd have moved heaven & earth to stay married to her

This is based on a true story. John Cleese, fishing for plotlines, asked a friend who worked in management at either the Ritz or Savoy in London what their biggest headache was. His friend replied unexpectedly that it was probably the suicides. Cleese was astounded and asked if they had many. The friend told him that they had a number of people each year, determined to end it all and equally determined to spend their last night in style. The problem the hotel had was getting the body out without the other guests seeing it. Hence this episode. Nowt queerer than truth....

At the time, this was a controversial episode and there were campaigns to have it banned or, at least, for the BBC to suffer penalties for having broadcast it. Quite possibly Mary Whitehouse was involved. The reason was nothing to do with the sexual references e.g. the blow-up doll - it was the treatment of the corpse which thd complainants found "disrespectful". You will always find people in every generation who cannot see the joke - just like today.
@Mediawatcher2023

Sybil asks Mr. Leeman wants a "full or continental" breakfast. In hotel parlance a continental breakfast refers to a light serving of pastries and fruit with coffee, while the "full English breakfast" is eggs, sausage or bacon and toast.

John Cleese will admit he suffered terribly with stage fright and was always totally congratulatory towards the cast of this series (which included Prunella Scales - actually rather older than him). It's a testament to all their gifts that what amounts to a British farce was carried out so perfectly in front of a TV audience.

It is no exaggeration to say this continues to be one of the most quotable British sitcoms - at home - there has ever been. A hotel for people who have more than a fifty percent chance of making it through the night probably sums up the residence - filmed on location, in it's 2nd season in 1979, a depressingly short distance from where I was growing up....

I am not sure Connor understood that Basil mistook Mr Leeman's three work colleagues, who came to "collect" him at 09:30 after breakfast, for the funeral directors whom Sybil had rung earlier to arrange for the body to be collected: hence their incomprehension on being told that he was in the laundry basket.
