The Poker scene was a brilliant way of showing the differences in Jeremy and Mark’s personalities and approach to life. Jeremy doesn’t have a clue but just wings it, Mark over thinking everything and giving away the best hand because he’s too scared to take a risk…even when the odds are in his favour.

"Cringe" is a big element of British comedy. You can see it here, also in Man Down, The Inbetweeners and many more. Unlike US comedies where there are may be a series of awkward 'situations' but all gets resolved in the last scene when they have a laugh and everything is OK. In these UK shows, the situations get worse and worse, maybe ricocheting off others until there's an almighty cascade of calamities at the end, when few are happy. But we know they'll be back next week!

Many viewers describe Jeff as the good guy of PS, but I can't see how he is. He's entertaining as Mark's rival for Sophie, but he's selfish, cheats on Sophie, often snipes at Mark & has few good qualities.

I think overall season 3&4 are the best and I really like season 5 too. A lot of people don't include 5 in the Golden years but I liked every single episode.

Loving watching someone's journey of discovery of this show in real time. Have been a solid fan of it ever since its original release. It will always be associated with living in England for a year (I'm Irish) when I'd binge watch it on DVD circa 2006. Think I started on this series (S2).

I always saw this as the 'worst' episode (or 'best' depending on how you look at it) - it goes even beyond the usual 'cringe' into a place that's really quite dark and hopeless..followed closely by 'Jeremy's Broke' which is also absolutely horrible

There are no good moral characters in Peep Show, they're all shitheads to each other. The poker scene perfectly illustrates the 2 personalities though, Mark filled with self doubt folds on a good hand. Jeremy with no idea what he is doing lucks his way to a win.
