About 15-20 years ago me and my friend (who just passed away last week unfortunately) were in a Preston eye hospital/clinic waiting room full of people and we just started bantering away as we always do and pretty much everyone joined in within minutes trying to outdo each other in making everyone else laugh (got to love northerners) except for an older couple sat in the corner. About 15 minutes of this and in the middle of the hilarity I look over at the older couple and see them amused and laughing to themselves and next thing I'm practically shouting "Bloody hell! Its Dave Spikey!" And it was Dave Spikey (Jerry)! Apparently he'd been having eye trouble for years. Apologised for announcing his presence like that and thanked him for Phoenix Nights and asked if we'd ever get more but unfortunately he and Peter Kay weren't on good terms at the time so no more seasons or specials. Being good northerners we thanked him and then proceeded to leave him to his day but we didn't get back to the banter cos we were in the presence of a comedy giant and we all felt self conscious about telling shit jokes in front of him 😂 was a really pleasant encounter.
I’ve watched phoenix nights dozens of times over the years and I’ve only just realised that’s Philomena Cunk at 9:10 😂 Boomer is getting good at spotting these Brit comics in sitcoms now haha
That comment at the end there about not seeing Den Perry's club, the episode from Season 1 about Keith Lard the fire marshal, his talk about fire safety was at Den's club before he said to Brian at the end of the talk he was going over to the Phoenix.
Yes its Diane Morgan who plays Philomena Cunk. She has her own great BBC comedy series called Mandy, she plays the title character. It has 14 episodes.
You may not have spotted why the crowd were dead silent watching the guy singing "Leader of the Gang" until they cheered when he fell over. He was impersonating Gary Glitter...
I was going to say that. He should react to “The execution of Gary Glitter” 😮😅✍🏻 EDIT: joke he should definitely not!!!!! 😮 🙈💆🏻♂️ this channel my safe space lol; my antidote to watching too much true crime 😊
The bit that you had to repeat where Paddy goes “what about tommy D fingers” Peter Kay felt the same he got a bad case of the giggles and had to do multiple takes, speaking of which you should watch the bloopers.
Love your reaction videos. Have just been watching the BBC3 comedy series, Bad Education... Harry Enfield joins it.... well worth watching. Another series worth watching is the Irish comedy series, Young Offenders.
10:28 that is Gary Glitter who was famous in the 70s and 80s. However he is now a convicted pedophile not only in Britain but in Thailand as well. He is currently serving 16year prison sentence for the same. This is why no one reacts to his performance other than when he fell off the stage.
Has anyone recommended That Peter Kay Thing? (That’s literally the show’s name I’m not having memory issues!) It was a sort of prequel to Phoenix Nights.
I used to drink in this Pub where it was filmed. I lived around the corner. I went in there many, many many times. It's called St. Gregory's in farnworth UK nr Bolton. Went in there and everything exactly the same as in the TV show. They left everything up there including the penang suite and the Chinese restaurant thing. It was an open working man's bar with a sports room as well and the big hull for the entertainment and a good little place. It's kind of closed now and just opens for weddings and birthdays and things like that special events
Hey King Boomer, it's been great to see you enjoy these 2 series. I didn't think you'd get the humour at first, but I was wrong. I'm happy that us Northern Folk could make you laugh so much. I've just heard the end of your video while typing and you said it was made with 'heart'. That's bang on! 🙂
Max and Paddys Road to Nowhere is even funnier than this. That reaction to Tommy Dickfingers is what both Peter and Paddy had while trying to film it too - had loads of out takes of that which you can see on the out take vid🤣. You're right about the fiancee, by the way. It is Diane Morgan, who is actually from the town Phoenix Nights was filmed in - Farnworth and indeed did play Philomena Cunk as well as Kath, the adverts manager in Afterlife.
Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere is a must. You can’t leave the Phoenix characters like that now can you Boomer? 😉 Car Share is another great Peter Kay series to watch after Max and Paddy.
All these working men's clubs look very similar tbh. All mostly single storey with bar, lounge bar, games room, events rooms and other rooms you can hire. Can't imagine Perry's was different. I think in one episode they did list all the amenities he had.
They cheered Spencer falling off stage as he was dressed as Gary Glitter who was famous as a pop star in the 70s but was sent to jail later and is now thought of in a similar way to Jimmy Saville in England.
This was well before the Glitter stuff came to light. The joke was that he was just awful so they applauded when he fell (Peter Kay would never have included a Glitter reference otherwise, he doesn't do edgelord humour, thankfully)
The DVD commentary for the show is just as funny as the show, especially Series 2 commentary when Peter keeps remarking on how so-called comic Daniel Kitson describing the series as "The worst thing he's ever done" to which you keep hearing Peter say "Ungrateful b*****d!" 🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤭
Also, if you like nicknames, watch the Afterlife scene where we hear the other nicknames that Ratty gives “the Nonce” Or the bloopers, where they just keep making them up and breaking.
One thing I never got about this episode is Ray saying that Brian can get his licence back. But he was banned for insurance fraud and breaching fire safety regulations. Den Perry being arrested doesn't change that.
