He earned the respect of the military in his younger days. Flying a helicopter, commanding a ship, earning his parachute wings the hard way. The Armed Forces swear their allegiance to the Monarch - which really does help the stability of the realm and puts a massive crimp in any Government that might chose to slide into totalitarian ways! Princess Anne was my Commander-in-Chief, and her "Not bloody likely" response to the kidnapper who told her to get out of the car as he pointed a gun at her... that will do it for me. That cheer was heartfelt.

We drove down Constitution Hill and at the bottom one said "what's that big building there?" "Errrr Buckingham Palace mate". We got to a set of traffic lights on the Mall and a woman crossed the road wearing dark glasses, a long dark coat and she had her hand in one pocket. A few feet behind her? I said to them "are you monachists or republican?" "Definitely monachists" Well look to your front! Crossing the road after that now obviously security woman was Prince Charles himself! It doesn't surprise me at all being a Patriotic British man that I am that our military is perfect in what it does. The British Armed Forces are the best in the world, they are the best trained, the best lead and the most deadliest fighting forces on the planet. Plus they one of the oldest Military Forces on earth and one of the most feared. Our British Armed Forces may be small but they are still very effective and feared. I am very much a supporter of our beloved Armed Forces and I have had family serving in the British Army, the RAF and the Royal Navy, I wanted to join the British Army but was turned down because I suffer with Psoriasis, which was very hard to take but I still love, respect and support them 100%. @Murray Priscott Man and cheer ship is only done on the upper deck.(plenty room). But you have rightly mentioned limited deckhead space which did affect traditions. Glad you watched this, so many great moments from the whole day, but many of my fav reactors have _pretty much_ only seen events in The Abbey, this was such a great moment though, just a couple of notes, these men and women were drawn from across all services in the UK military and across The Commonwealth forces, they numbered 4,000. I watched it live and they lined up on that lawn VERY quickly as they were the procession/parade that lead the King and Queen from The Abbey. I really think it only took about 15 mins or so for them to line up on the lawn after entering the Palace grounds. It was incredible. I mean 15 mins is a guess...but it seemed like the blink of an eye for that many troops! The Republicans can have their opinions (I was one of them some time ago!) But they could never argue that a day like this could ever happen in a republic. I think that that (not the only reason for the Monarchy) would be an exceptional loss.

Not sure if you knew but ALL Forces Personnel (Army, Navy and Air Force) swear allegiance to the Monarch and not the Government so King Charles, like his mother before him, is affectionately referred to as 'The Boss'. Every one of them considers it an honour to be part of something like this.
@lestermay5878
@lestermay5878 Год назад
Royal Navy personnel and Royal Marines officers do not swear an oath of allegiance. The reason is that their allegiance is taken for granted, the Royal Navy being raised by Royal prerogative - the other two services are raised by Act of Parliament and Army and RAF personnel do swear an oath of allegiance.

Not just British. You forget. The Commonwealth was represented in that parade. Australians. Canadians. New Zealanders. All of the Realms. All of the Commonwealth countries. The reverberation of the "Three Cheers". The clarity. A powerful message of cohesion to give pause to ne'er-do-well foes. God Save The King.

The fact that the uk still has a large military to hold these is cool most small nations don’t get much attention for their old traditions

Magnificent, a man will fight for King and Country, the King represents the people and the country, he's committed for life, as his son and grandson and so on, will be, the King's robes have a priestly or fatherly significance as well as a kingly significance and this combination is benevolent and protecting, above politics , strictly for the people, those displays of loyalty can't be faked or the joy of the crowds , that link between the people and the armed forces and their sovereign is very old and deep and can't be explained, only felt .

Charles was so proud of the soldiers and you could see his reluctance to leave, as he turned for one last look before exiting.

On another note. That castle in your background is Bamburgh Castle which is only a 20 minute drive up the road from me. I've been there many times! 😁

I remember very well learning how to do "three cheers" with my Glengarry clasped in the thumb and forefingers of my right hand, lowering it to your shoulder between cheers. In HM armed forces, we fight for the Crown, not the prime minister. A subtle thing, given that the PM is His Majesty's PM. It keeps things nicely separate, given we may all have political differences, but one Monarch.

there's been a documentary about the soldiers who took part in the coronation on British tv recently and the poor guy calling the parade to do the three cheers had just about lost his voice that day but had to do all this shouting! Poor guy was so stressed out about it.
