"Gupta" comes from the Sanskrit term गोप्तृ (goptṛ). It basically translates to something like "protector" or "guardian". In the sense of the royal names, it means something akin to "protected by ____" (i.e Samudragupta = Samudra(ocean/sea) + Gupta. Thus, Samudragupta= "Protected by the Sea") . Such theophoric names were common among classical civilizations, especially Classical India(still are to this day in some places, such as India). There's a lot of history behind why the names are like this but it all boils down to evoking the god's/subjects name for some reason(prosperity, protection, etc.)

Gupta means protector and is a rather common Indian surname, so google tells me :P
@prasoonjha1816
@prasoonjha1816 Год назад
In modern Hindi, it simply means secret but I think it's original meaning was "protected". Chandragupta means "Protected by the Moon" Samudragupta means "Protected by Sea". Skandagupta means "Protected by Skanda" (Skanda being the god of war in Hinduism).

Indian empires had weather problems (monsoon) and people problems (too many).
@Deepak_Dhakad
@Deepak_Dhakad Год назад
People problem? I don't think there was any such problem, large population is reason why India was far more prosperous and wealthy. Monsoon was necessary to grow crops. Unnecessary random rainfalls didn't happened. There r 6 seasons and all were important for different crops.
@death_parade

Wrong on both counts. Especially the "people problem" part. India has (even today) the largest arable land in the world. More than even USA, but that is now split between the modern nations of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Add the current figures of arable land of these three nations and compare it to the ranks 2 and 3 in the world (USA and China). It is a myth that India had an overpopulation problem.

the caste system was not present in ancient indian civilization but a class system was present when the brits translated the "manusmiriti" the book mentioning this they changed the translation from class to caste... and since most people in india were ground down poor and people who had money like some brahmins began to use it as excuse to gather colonial favor making people who did petty jobs as untouchables... the brahmins who were poor had it worse since they were not favoured by rich they began to supress the lower casts more in agony and frustration of brit pressure... people faced same situation before when islamic invaders came but since they were engrossed in destroying temples and looting ,converting people to muslim rather than playing information warfare... it was a problem and still is in some places far far away in ghetto areas... things have become better... 😂😂if greeks existed today maybe the story would have been different... only indians exist still every other civilization is lost to time...

Most of ancient Bharat was richest & prosperous with abundant wealth of gold, diamonds, wisdom & architecture holding 40% of world GDP . It was so attractive that Islamists, British, Dutch, French were always dreamed off conquesting Bharat. All the cumulative gold loot stands 45 trillion dollars as per economics of today's value. It's high time right full history should be taught to future generations about the glorious past

I wonted say the lower caste nor what we call nowadays thanks to the British quote untouchables are like slaves or semi slaves like in Russia infact the majority nowadays are of these lower classes or even untouchable and the thing is within these castes you can find sub castes depending on what part of the subcontinent it was like in the past different parts of India threw out it’s history had varying ways to class people in the varna system and it can change depending on the ruling party the modern caste system was adopted thanks to British rule over the subcontinent Edit: and even then some denominations of Hinduism don’t fallow the varna system at all but different class system

that is a very far from actual depiction of samudragupta, he wasn't that dark and his nose certainly wasn't that pressed in also he wore a lot more gold and was properly dressed, for some who owned the lands that were famous for finest silks in the world which roman and european royals would import at high costs, he appears to be a bit under dressed? don't you think?

Why would you make a reaction video if you are going to make essentially zero comments or reflections about it? (aside from wondering whether Attila the Hun, from Europe, or Genghis Khan, from the 13th century, were in 6th century India... which shows you have zero understanding of history.) Im curious as you offer no additional historical analysis what does this provide that the original video doesnt?
