I think Germans have more humor in their songs. Many don't take themselves so seriously

Maybe the difference you mean is because in Germany parody Songs by comedians always have been a big thing too, that often made it into the charts and there are also quite a few of them in this list. In the US the songs by lonely island would compare to this.

Counterpoint: Weird Al Yankovic is so consistently popular in the USofA that he is only the third artist after Michael Jackson and Madonna to have a Top 40 hit in each decade since the 80s. Though maybe this is more a case of "the exception proves the rule."

I'm Czech and I grew up on the Alphaville, Sandra, Scorpions, Enigma, U96, Scooter. And in the German language Falco, Tic Tac Toe, Blumchen and Rammstein. Of course there will be more.

Kraftwerk actually was the first one that played Techno in the World. they basically invented electronic music

I don't like these 5 second clips. you can't really get a feeling for a song in so short a time. I know, it's because of copyright issues but it's just so short.

Kraftwerk was very influential on hip hop and techno productions. Die Toten Hosen are punk not new metal.

And incredibly, Kraftwerk is still touring. Already got my tickets and can't wait to see them live.

It was about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and how he was a Rock Star in his Time but he died poor. It is also an Honour Song to Amadeus. He also dissed an italian Composer. Hehe.

Unfortunately, that was only a short but important episode in German music and was POP called "Neue deutsche Welle" in a very German and 80s style

Beginning of the 80s we called that Neue Deutsche Welle - new German wave...it was all about crazy and funny songs.

This list limits itself to the commercially successful artists of their time. So much music is missing from the 80s alone: Just one song each from two of the biggest Punk bands, Die Ärzte and Die Toten Hosen, is not enough! Both bands started in 1982 and had hits that are played till today. Udo Jürgens is completely absent. "Ich war noch niemals in New York" is from 1982 and "Vielen Dank für die Blumen" (1981) was the german intro for "Tom and Jerry". Ton Steine Scherben, Rio Reiser, Einstürzende Neubauten, Marianne Rosenberg, Ina Deter Band, Juliane Werding are not mentioned. And (nearly) all of the East German music is not on this list! Karat was at least mentioned because they got covered. But where were Puhdys, Stern Combo Meißen, City, Silly, Electra, Karussell, Rockhaus, Keimzeit, Veronika Fischer and so, so many more?

Rock me Amadeus was more about that Amadeus Mozart was a music star of his time. Falco likened him to a rockstar.

The four most important German language rock/pop singer/songwriters are: Herbert Grönemeyer, Marius Müller Westernhagen, Udo Lindenberg and Peter Maffay. I guess their music is highly poetic and the sense of humor is lost in translation here. EAV is beyond absurd and the lyrics are usually also lost in translation. German music in German known in Sweden might be: Kraftwerk, NENA, Rammstein, Blümschen, Falco and Trio from this list. My favorite songs here must be Männer, Was Soll Das, Deine Liebe Klebt, Flugzeuge In Bauch, Sonderzug Nach Pankow, Mief, Küss Die Hand Schöne Frau, Ba-Ba-Banküberfall, Guten Morgen Liebe Sorgen, Amadeus, Katzeklo and Das Model.

Amadeus seems more like a true tribute to Mozart as someone ahead of his time. So maybe in a way it is against traditionalism. Falco was a genius himself and he got a lot of media baracuda against him.

Personally from this list i recommend you check out Herbert Grönemeyer, he is really iconic in Germany. His Songs are very catchy and his songwriting incredible, has a lot of meaning behind it.

Nice compilation, i love die Neue Deutshe Welle. The texts are better created i believe that englisch music of that time and english texts are very easy made. If you would translate them in Dutch they would never be so succesful but the German song stay good.

Falco-Jeanny, shouldn't be in there as some of it is sung in English lol And you mentioned computer animatons coming in the 90's, but a few of them 80's videos had animation/ CGI in them! Also shame this also didn't show Germans singing in English as would of showed: Milli Vanilli, Sandra, Alphaville, The Scorpions...etc

Once, when i was around 13 my Parents, me and a friend were on a Andy Borg Schlager Concert. Well..that was before Boybands, 2Pac, Venga Boys and HIM, Rock, Grunge and Metal. Which i still love. Falco is or was typical Austropop.

The Tic Tac Toe - Warum song is not funny at all. She sings about a close friend who died of drugs. 'And why? Why? Just for the kick for the moment' she sings at this point in the video

2:49 Just a great hit from Nicole (a bit of peace). Would love someone can take inspiration on this and make a good song nowadays. With all the s*** in the world a song like this is with kind of similar lyrics would be great.

I love the channel you watched. Fun guy, and also really active in the comments. I don't like Tic Tac Toe at all. Their music is neat soundwise, but the texts are just rough.

I still can't see any video of them without thinking about the infamous press conference "Wenn wir wirklich Freunde wären, dann würdest du so’n Scheiß überhaupt nicht machen! Du machst alles kaputt!" "Jetzt kommen wieder die Tränen auf Knopfdruck. Das kennen wir schon."
