Its okay im from a ghetto ass place in NZ, and even i look at those little stands in the rural areas selling fruits or whatever, and think damn "thats some trustworthy ppl selling that". I stopped once and the owner was there and asked him, hey have you got much stuff stolen from your stand? and he replied, "end of the day, we aren't making a living selling these fruit, its just extra money for us. If someone is going to steal a bag of fruit. They obviously are desperate to eat, and need the food more than we need the money, so that's okay with me. Just take the food, but don't take it all, leave some for someone else in case they need the food aswel." That sunk deep in me.

In Auckland here, we've actually got some food pantries on the side of the road in local communities, where people actually do put food in to share with others, NO CHARGE. It's amazing to see people being so kind to each other in this way. Similar thing also with books for people to share. Then there's also a number of "Pay it Forward" groups on FB doing a similar thing. ♥️ Restores your faith in humanity, that there are good, caring people out there.

In NZ when we learn the road code and sit our drivers license we are reminded it’s a legal requirement to slow and check pedestrian crossings and if someone is approaching you must slow to check if they’re crossing. The pedestrian has right of way so really that lady needs to look at the road code. Lol.
@vlueo
@vlueo 2 года назад
yuh this. it's also very common for cars to wait until the pedestrian has crossed completely even if they way for the vehicle is clear (if they already passed your bonnet). interesting thing i observed, when pedestrians are crossing the road with traffic lights vehicles are supposed to giveaway to all pedestrians crossing. here in New Zealand cars turning left slowly edge up to the guided lines of the crossing and even begin to accelerate as you approach the curb. went overseas for 2weeks and this NEVER happened during my stay in Hawaii. weird feeling

Me too! My cousin lives in America and she said that when you buy stuff from a shop they charge tax at the counter... so whatever the sign says on the product is not actually what you pay at the checkout! Now, that's weird! In NZ, for example, if a product label says $4.95, you pay $4.95 at the checkout. Aaaaand... if the product says $4.95 and you pay $5.95 at the counter, you can return to the store and show the receipt to say that you paid more than what the product displayed, you'll get a refund of the total price you paid. Yep. I appreciate NZ more than I ever have before xx

That fish and chips on the beach thing though... come on man just properly! 😂 who's getting sand all in their food WTF I been eating all sorts of food at the beach in NZ my whole life and never had an issue with sand in my food. But man there's so many things we take for granted in NZ until someone points it as being kind of unusual. Like the whole friends occupation thing, not true for everyone but still very true some of my very close friends. I have an idea about what they do but not very in depth. The fruit stand thing isn't everywhere either but does exist in places. The bank transfer thing is still a bit confusing, if I need to pay a friend for sonething I just send them money to their account my app saves their details. Can even make automatic payments to a landlord for rent for example. It's surprising that it's not normal elsewhere.

Fruit Stands etc yep this is based on Honesty - pay if you can, we also have stands in the community whereas anyone can put food in it for those less fortunate - all food is donated and is for free, it’s literally a pantry on the side of the road 5. New Zealand has a relatively small population that is reasonably static due to being islands and are relatively tech savvy. That allows companies to test a product on us to see if it works before they release it onto a much larger population. We have been used to test banking systems like eftpos (which was around before debit cards) and have lead the world in a lot of areas. Other products are tested as well, soft butter was one of those. Generally if the Kiwi's take to it most other populations will as well.

I'm from NZ, the way we handle money is probably the biggest difference I notice when traveling to other countries. In NZ we hardly use cash anymore, everything is through internet banking, eftpos, transfers etc so easy. Cheques are ancient now, you can't use them. Most of what she says is true! Except the eating on the beach thing... how does she get sand in her food?? 😆

@chrisharkins6929
@chrisharkins6929 Год назад
You are unable to use cheques in NZ even Bank Cheques or Travelers cheques. You would need to go to a bank to "Cash" them and would probably be advised to obtain through the bank you are dealing with to set up a debit/EFTPOS card so that you can use it for purchases. Or if you must use cash, most retailers would probably cash out what you need on the debit card as cash is a messy and pricy form of money to deal with for them and the more they can get rid of the cash for credit into their account the better off they are. Day to day banking here in NZ is as simple as going on line and setting up simple payment methods so that you never have to think about having to pay your bills on time. Heck you can borrow money off your bestie and pay them back with just the simple use of a mobile phone. Money transfers between banks for the most part are instant or at the worst 24 hours. EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer Point Of Sale) means that it can be months before you see cash as you use your card for every purchase, including buying a beer at the bar, getting your hair cut and as for getting petrol for your car....you pull up to the pump, insert your card into the pump fill your car and be on your way with not an attendant in sight anywhere as they are not required. You are able to do all of the above with out bank fees attached to a Credit/Debit card.

I'm a New Zealander and LOTS of us walk barefoot ... it's a freedom we embrace. Most of the clips on RU-vid and tik tok are taken by tourist ... in urban centre and at amusements. Where sometimes barefoot isn't acceptable, but everywhere else barefoot for the win. At least 10% of NZ'ers are always in bare feet. I only wear shoes when I HAVE to so for work of evening events, dinner etc. From being a kid I wear shoes ONLY when I have to otherwise why would I wrap my feet in sock and shoes on a hot day .... that's madness. They're called Pedestrian Crossings in New Zealand and if some one is approaching one ALL cars have to stop and give right of way. If you don't use a crossing then you have to wait for cars but if you're at a Ped Cross the cars HAVE to give way. Sausages in bread is for convenience, a sausage in NZ almost always comes with a sauce. Give a kid a sausage covered in tomato sauce and what happens ... mess everywhere. Wrap it in bread and it's got an edible wrap that keeps the sauce and meat juices in one place ..... easy peasy. BBQ's are big in New Zealand along with kids .... it's a simple fix. We are a pragmatic people. Also don't knock it until you've tried it. This whole talking about what you do first up is about social standing and judging people. I don't give a shit about wether you are a rocket scientist or a rubbish collecter ...... what matter is ... Are you a nice person. Work is NOT a part of that assessment, people who talk about work first are 'Penis measuring' so they can feel worse or better about themselves, maybe it's connected to the anxiety you'll feel all the time. EFTPOS was introduced years ago and it stands for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale. So kiwis call them EFTPOS, we're more likely to call a Credit Card a debit card because you're using someone else's money. EFTPOS is for specifically paying directly from your bank account to the shop so it comes out from your account immediately. Super convenient and safe. Hearing people talk about NZ makes us incredibly proud and thankful that we live in such an amazing place and very happy that I don't live in America. Come visit, the beers cold and waiting. Peace.

Waddup Uce Debit is the Universal term but NZ has always been considered quite advanced in money purchases/transfer/uses (eg. we finally discontinued the use of cheques because it became obsolete). CREDIT however would be the Mastercard and Visa noise, but EFTPOS makes it simple it surprises me how many people from the US have never heard of this system. The Bank Transfer thing is the most safe process, cos the Banks are "Secured" cos if you think about it, Cash App, PayPal, Wise are all Third Party apps. Middle Man Profits. Transferring funds the Uso can happen instant depending on the bank, or couple hours, not on weekends lol. Oh the Beans on Toast, I'd rather spaghetti with cheese, or flying saucers / toasties.. Eftpos is just what the company is called. Yes we do enter supermarkets bare foot, most don't some do. There is very little difference between normal bread and buns, I don't see a problem.

Hot buttered toast with hot beans is yum! Try it! The roadside stands are because we support local small businesses and farms and orchards. Min wage in your country I believe is $3 our min wage is $21 that why tipping is not compulsory. We don’t believe the customer should have to pay part of the staffs wages! Boss should be paying not pocketing the money! $3 is disgusting!

Alright so we eat hotdogs in hot dog buns, hot dogs are not the same as sausages.. sausages, white bread, tomato sauce and onions is like a staple food that they sell everywhere to raise money. It is the law to stop at pedestrian crossings if you see someone... if you dont you will get a fine if a police officer sees you and yes i am always always barefoot... going for a walk? barefoot, running into the supermarket or dairy? barefoot. It is just so much easier

People for sure go barefoot here in NZ. Another thing we have in NZ is Tap & Go, which is when you pay for things with your bank card you can tap your bank card on the EFTPOS machine and money comes out of your account. Honestly don't hate on the sausage sizzle until you've tried one, (which is sausage on white bread with cooked onions and tomato sauce) it's Delicious. but i also understand that it may sound weird to you if you're use to the bun. With the bank transfer if your with the same bank you see the money straight away if you're not with the same bank you have to wait overnight. simpler compared to other countries. the freedom we have here in NZ i am grateful for, you definitely need to come to NZ and experience our laid back, easy going lifestyle and our amazing culture that NZ has. I need part two please!!!!!

I live in NZ, I promise you it happens, Where I am from it is 'more' in the smaller towns but if you live beach side then it happens all the time. I am with you on the Bun for the sausage, we are 'make do' kinda people but I would prefer a bun. NZ were the first to have Eftpos, it's independent of major credit companies which is debt card, the eftpos machine will do both without skipping a beat. Do we care that it is easier? Mostly we don't think about it but now that you raised the point, since we do something right we can always improve on something else.

As a just turned 30 year old kiwi here is my opinion/thoughts: 1) Yeah beans on toast pretty common. Bit strange if she bought breakfast and that's all it was. Beans should only be included in something like a full English breakfast as part of it. Not it's own full paid for meal. 2) Never personally bought anything from the fruit/vege stands but they are common in rural areas/small towns. Honour/trust system surprisingly works well. Most people that would steal from them live in the big cities so probably don't come across them much. 3) My last job I would finish at the time it said I would. My current job I often work well longer than my contracted 40 hours. It's just down to the job you have. 4) Definitely don't see as much barefoot as used to. This is more rural communities rather than big cities but you do get the odd person in the Supermarket or something going barefoot. I don't know why it's such a big deal. Like what's it got to do with you if someone is barefoot? Just move on. 5) Yeah I couldn't care much what other people do for work. I only know immediate family/closest friends jobs and really it's only roughly what they do. 6) F&C on the beach. Unless it's a windy day I don't know why shes on about getting sand in your food. I don't think many people actually eat it ON the beach. Usually at a bench/table alongside the beach. 7) By law, drivers are required to stop for a pedestrian wanting to use a Zebra crossing. Only idiots just walk out in front of the traffic without looking though. The law is if a car is too close to safely stop for the pedestrian then they don't have to. Otherwise they do. Never just walk on out without looking. Regardless of the law, there is always someone breaking it. 8) White bread is great. Don't confuse sausages with Hot dogs(or Frankfurters as they are properly known). Sausages are far better on bread as the ratio of sausage to bread is superior as they don't have all the other fillings you do on hot dogs. Too much bread on hot dog rolls. 9) EFTPOS is basically the same as debit. It was invented well before debit and is run through a specific network. I believe EFTPOS was actually invented in USA. Instant transfer of funds from your chequing account to the businesses account. 10) Bank transfers are super good. It's an easy free way to pay someone for something. It's what a lot of people use for TradeMe (NZ's own version of eBay). You just give your account number and they send it to you. It's completely secure. No one can hack your account or do anything bad with your account number. They're not used to log in or contact the bank with. It's purely a number associated with that specific account (formatted as 12-1234-1234567-123. Bank-Branch-Account-Suffix).

I can confirm that kiwis sometimes walk barefoot especially on grass in summer. That’s why we have flip flops. When I was a kid coming from England, I went to school and it was so hot we didn’t have to wear shoes - which was great coming from a shirt and tie strict English school. There’s so much grassland and most places are well maintained and safe, you wouldn’t go into farm fields without gummies though or you’ll end up stepping in cowpats.
