As a Canadian, drinking tap water is awesome. I never understand why people come here and buy flats of water bottles and entire jugs that belong in offices. I assume we spend a lot of money and have invested a lot of infrastructure to make our water safe and clean from the tap. So much plastic wasted on bottles for water that tastes (IMO) worse than straight from the tap. I'm looking at you Dasani.

Unfortunately, tap water is not drinkable everywhere in Canada. Many towns/communities are under order to boil water before using. Sadly, far too many of those under boil orders are Indigenous/Innu/Inuit/First Nations communities.

indeed the sugar maple is found mainly in North America and especially in Quebec towards the east coast, and in a large part of the northeastern United States. We are not alone in having it and even more surprising the sugar maple is the official state tree of New York, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin . The beaver is the national animal of Canada because Canada was pioneered by fur traders who bought beaver pelts from the First Nations. Millions of beaver pelts were shipped back to Europe to make beaver felt for top hats. The beaver is so important to Canada’s history that we made it our national animal.

Funny enough, in Quebec, we call it a hoodie in English, but it was very common to call it a kangaroo in French..although with the advent of the internet and the French-speaking population having more access to English shows, music, slang, etc. the term "hoodie" seems to have taken over, even in French.

Yes, growing up in the 1960's, those were called Kangaroo jackets. I remember somebody tried to "trademark" the name, and got laughed out of court as a result. Another curiosity - when I was a kid, we were on Edmonton's municipal water system, and my mother was (swear to God!) an official "Water Sniffer." Once a month - once a week during spring run-off - she would fill out a report that was mailed to Edmonton's municipal water department. It was an unpaid position - just one of those things that were "community service," like cleaning the snow off of the local ice rink. Edmonton (and Calgary) are both much larger now, but the tap water is still just fine to drink.

As others noted, the McLobster is a seasonal item on the menus of Atlantic Canadian McD's. Subways down here will also seasonally have Lobster available for their sandwiches. I think the McLobster is also available in New England McDs as well. My mom is from Cape Breton and she also remembers when Lobster was a poor-family's meal. (And yes she had her over fill of them, having many fishermen friends and family; they still get her lobster fresh off the boat when she's home in the summer). The Canadian Mint does a lot of special coins, and they even do special coins that are in circulation. For the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Mint has a toonie with a black ring (instead of the silver ring it normally has) that is in circulation. You can also find quarters with a red poppy in them; and they just released a dime with the Bluenose floating on blue water. And swinging back to McD's, did you know the McFlurry was developed at a McDs in Bathurst, New Brunswick?

In the late 70's we vacationed for 3 weeks touring the east coast of Canada and we ate a lot of lobster. Ridiculously cheap. The Lobster Festival in Shediac, New Brunswick has taken place since 1949 throughout the first week of July every year. It's back on now, following the pandemic. We attended a church in Shediac that serves a lobster dinner every Sunday and the entire community attends and welcomes everyone. It was "all you can eat" for $3 dollars with plenty of hot butter. If your not sure how to attack a lobster, the folks will teach you how to eat a lobster, so that there is nothing left but the shell. They even provide a free bib.

There was a story about a 10 year old boy finding a young albino garter snake, a hatchling, thinking at first that some mean person had dipped it in white paint. That albino garter snake could not be returned to the wild as it would be eaten by a predator after release. After getting permission from the Canadian Government, that albino garter snake was taken to the San Diego Zoo who paid that 10 year old boy who went with his Dad for it after its arrival.

They surf the wave in Moncton NB on the Peticodiac River and raft the rapids the wave brings in daily on the Shubenacadie River near Maitland, NS...a popular activity for tourists here. You can walk on the ocean floor at low tide at Burntcoat Head in NS and Hopewell Rocks, NB. Five Islands Provincial Park is another great place to walk the ocean floor, or run the mudflats in the popular "Not Since Moses" race in the summer. Hi Tyler - Our WATER is really good and even better when you lie in the mountains, as the water comes from springs fed by MOUNTAINS in British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Quebec, Newfoundland, and others. While other communities, like all of Canadian communities, we build towns/cities next to rivers and lakes, and in my case…Edmonton is separated North and South by the North Saskatchewan flowing through the middle of the city. It creates a gorgeous River Valley with lots of parks throughout. The close proximity of water and easy access is common throughout Canada! Because WATER is a ridiculously ABUNDANT resource here (which we NEED to protect desperately!)…America has been demanding more of it…each passing year!

Our first trip thru the Fraser Canyon we went thru this long canyon and came out to a dry area with tumbleweeds blowing across the road. 200 miles farther on we drove past a glacier. Coming back from that trip we passed miles of hoodoos. Then a couple of ghost towns. I have seen trees here that are 20ft across at the base and watched a pod of killer whales while on a ferry up the West Coast. Ontario has nothing like that. East Coast is the best seafood you will find anywhere and its ALL good and pretty much anywhere on the East Coast. Needless to say we never leave the country and just do our exploring here. Most bears (black) aren’t an issue for chasing humans, but if they think there maybe food in your car they will rip the doors off to get in there.

I've been to the Narcisse snake dens, back when I was like, 6 or 7 years old. It was incredible. Thousands upon thousands of snakes, all writhing together in massive breeding ball orgies. All of the pheromones coursing through the air made the snakes extremely docile as well, so you could just pick up snakes and let them run through your fingers (I was a childhood snake-c#&kblocker, I guess). My grandmother absolutely HATED it though; she kept trying to stop me from grabbing snakes. But they're only garter snakes. Back in the '80s when I was there, it was believed that garter snakes had no venom, so people had no problem with letting kids pick them up. However, it was later discovered that garter snakes do, in fact, possess venom, which is mostly-harmless to people (with the exception of those who might be allergic to it)...not so harmless to frogs and salamanders though!

I went on a tour of the Royal Canadian Mint many years ago and learned that all coins produced by them with the Queen (now King) on them, are legal tender. But it was $1 million dollars of gold many many years ago, so the coin is now worth a lot more than that in gold value, so you CAN spend it as $1 million, but it's more valuable than that in gold. Also, Canada produces a large percentage of the world's coins, we were at the time the largest producer of coins in the world, with Australia (at the time) being the largest competitor. Not sure what the current stats are on that stuff, but there is probably a video about the Royal Canadian Mint out there somewhere.

...and when the Twonie was first tendered, a tremendous number of them were made into charms for necklaces by Canadian teenagers (because it was easy to knock the centre out of them). I'm Canadian (live in Ontario) and have never seen a McLobster. I assume that it's something which is available for purchase in the maritimes, somewhere.

Ontario here. Wendy's feature lobster every year for a limited time. It's ok but nothing like you get in the Maritime.

We had them in northwestern ontario. My town makes a good test market. It came once and hasn't been back.
