He could have potentially explained the tall poppy thing a little better. We're happy for people when they succeed at anything, and we don't try to bring them down for their success. What we don't like is people behaving as if they're more important or better than anyone else. It doesn't matter if you're a homeless person sleeping on the street or a multimillionaire CEO, you'll be socially treated with equal dignity - so long as you treat others the same way. The moment you look down upon someone as inferior, we'll all go out of our way to show you what it feels like to be that person you looked down upon.
There hasn't been a day in my 70+yrs in God's country Australia that I haven't thanked my parents for bringing me to this wondrous place .I have achieved a lifestyle envied by most of the rest of the world,s population . I have been lucky enough to spend at least 30 overseas holidays and have visited some magical places but my heart is always here in the land of optimism where a good attitude ,hard work and no bullshit will see you succeed in your aspirations I say Australia is the best country in the world , other's may disagree but I'll tell you this it's way ahead of any place you care to mention . FAIR DINKUM it is .

Our fruit and veg sometimes might be expensive because our very hard working farmers struggle against weather and animals etc but we don't fear a doctors visit because it's either free or at least not expensive most medicines are reasonably priced so it evens out

I love Kmart! They actually have a great range of stuff here now. It use to be trashy but they put heaps of work in to it and now people shop there regardless of how much money they have but just cos Kmart have some awesome stuff at great prices. The wishing tree at Xmas is a must for me too. Kmart partner with the Salvation Army every year to give disadvantaged kids Xmas presents. You can give money or pop a gift under the tree and it will go to a kid in need on Xmas day.

As an Australian, I can tell you that we only like 2% of Americans, We like the smart ones like you. Australian can't deal with stupid people.
