Everything on that show is bullshit. Reality TV is not reality. It is demeaning to me (as a professional truck driver) to witness this garbage. We do experience many issues day to day, but TV producers create problems for content and therefore make truckers look stupid. I’m not calling you stupid for watching this program, this is just my opinion

Hi, I lived in Australia for 24+ years driving road train’s and heavy haulage, my longest trip was six weeks before I got home to Perth. I owned my own truck and loved every minute of it, great to see your videos, I miss the life. Thanks.

Around the 1:30 mark you were commenting on the police car. That was actually a transport authority car distinguished by the magenta coloured lights. Work in cooperation with police but focus only on road and transport. Also the P3 transport t909 that was shown, that trailer combination is called a b double and those come into the metro areas. Usually 25-26m long. Road trains do come into metro areas in some instances but not all. Varies between the states and territories. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart are the main ones that don’t bring trains in, though recently they’ve been trailing road trains going into Melbourne on specific and gazetted roads and Brisbane we can bring them in within 30 mins from the western city limits. Sydney is still 4-6 hours out for road trains from what I’ve been told. I’m an Aussie truckie and drive a variety of kenworths towing a mix between b double and road trains.

I’m actually watching this in a back of a Kenworth K200 Road Train. My wife and I are a 2up team. We left Brisbane on Tuesday arvo going to Perth. It takes us 52 hours nonstop one way. We have been doing this for 6 years so far.

Mad respect to you man, a friend took me along for a trucking trip with him, and it is hard. The truck broke down, got stuck on a hill, nearly ran out of fuel, and overall was just a nuisance. Really fun though, but the average person would not be able to cope.

As a now Certified Old Fart and ex-truckie, you have no idea how much I appreciated seeing that old Mack B61. Modern trucks are now more quieter, comfortable and powerful, but none of them could possibly give the deep sense of achievement you get from knowing you can handle using the old Mack 5 speed main gear box and the 4 speed quad box. That's when you can truly call yourself a truckie!

At least one of these clips, the one with Repco in it, was from Bendigo Victoria. Same as the clip of the Truck with Reedmans on the back, it's further up the same road. Can't say for the rest but Vic, NSW, SA all have places that look like these, I live outside Geelong & there are heaps of green hills & farms. It's great.

There was a interstate coach company called McCafferty's who had a large fleet of Australian made Denning Landseer coaches. These where made for reliable outback highway travel and sounded amazing powered with Detroit diesels and 6 speed spiced boxes. Awesome unique busses made for the job!

McCafferty's also had motor coaches which had duel wheels on the tag axle because they were longer than a standard length coach and the were powered by a 60 series Detroit diesel with an 8 speed eaton fulller box and also some automatics. I really enjoyed driving the motor coaches because they were bigger and heavier than a standard coach. They are now apart of the Greyhound Australia fleet.

Thanks Ian. I worked for various divisions of TNT for 20 odd years, in admin', but I have an affinity with all trucks, especially Interstate haulers. It's a different lifestyle the average person will never know about, or understand. Three cheers for Australia's Truckee's!

Tnt was started in Australia and has since been brought out by FedEx. It's really a shame, even though they have been on the international scale for years, they were still one of the great Australian family success stories. My old man has worked for them the last 10 years or so and brought home a book on the early days of the company. I haven't actually finished reading it unfortunately.

Its worth saying that in Australia not only different districts have different rules, but in some cases also different cities have special rules. Specially so for truck total length. That is one of the reason why semi-semi-semi-trucks are so common. That is. A semi riding a semi. Then they can just drive them up to the city limit. Just put the trailers on a yard, then drive the trailers into the city one by one. (or typically with a local driver and truck)

I omitted to say the MACK drivers were known as 100 Drummers and were highly respected in the transport industry as it was. As a kid I only saw their faces in a fleeting glance and thought they were carved from stone. The home of MACK in those days was Wingham halfway between Sydney and the border. At the Eclipse garage they had the hydraulic jacks that could lift the loaded vehicles. Otherwise trouble if they had breakages. When the MACK agency came up it was given to an outfit in Sydney and that was the biggest mistake MACK ever made. Not only did the owner of the Eclipse own and operated many of those trucks, he was an up and attem guy and his team knew them backwards. The last I heard there was a big fire in Sydney. Smart showrooms do nothing where the rubber meets the road. I will remember a Mack coming over Long Range fully laden forever.

I must say as someone who has driven thousands of miles around the USA, Australian trucks are very very impressive. B doubles are absolutely the the most impressive machines on the road. Especially the Blenners and Fox units.

Very very rare to see a Peterbuilt here in Australia unfortunately, they tried to take on Mack and Kenworth and failed so they never really took off here

Peterbilt and Kenworth are both owned by Paccar, which also own European DAF trucks Kenworths have been assembled in Victoria for decades, and are the only Kenworth plant in the world building cab over engine models. Kenworth have always been the best selling brand by a huge margin in Oz so Paccar had no reason to either import or locally assemble Peterbilt. All the Peterbilts you see here are imported and converted to RHD via some niche importers. They share many common components with Kenworth so parts aren't a massive problem.

@@stuarthancock571 . Kenwoth also assemble Conventional Trucks , locally , that MEET the Length restrictions . Peterbilt's VERY long Bonnet makes that difficult . Basically the same reason you rarely see a Ford LTL model these days either .

The red and yellow B double truck (correct me if I am wrong) is a company called Kalari Transport (melbourne based). They are a common in SA and NT. The terrain that you saw with the Woolworths truck looked to be around south of Goulburn NSW and the white Kenworth with the flat bed (around the 4:06 mark) looks to be south of Yass NSW. Both Yass and Goulburn are on the Hume Highway that links Melbourne and Sydney and as such is a massive freight route.

after going through the clip frame by frame, I saw that the first truck had what looked like VIC plates. additionally, the cars before and after the second truck had victorian plates and the second truck had NSW plates so I would assume this is in victoria. (Edit: I'm talking about the clip at 4:06)

it was The Hume Highway about 1.5 hours south of Sydney New South Wales also that old B61 Mack hauling timber is still a working truck today it is owned by a guy who went bankrupt got hold of the old Mack rebuilt and this time around he owned his old B61 and despite the lack of driver comfort he is a happy chapey i used to carry timber from the same mill in Mt Gambier South Australia

A few of those trucks were filmed in a town in Victoria called Bendigo where i at one point lived some years ago my cousin with a B-Double of hay came to visit and the main road out of town was blocked so in a Mitsubishi magna we escorted him through town I believe it was around that roundabout @5.33 just to get him out of town it was interesting a B-Double trying to get around suburban streets and corners

An interstate driver mate of mine called the Detroits noise convertors. They convert diesel into noise. I personally like them, but then again, I'm not trying to cart 70 tonne down the highway either. They were available in V6 and I6, as well as everything from a 2 cylinder to 6 inline and V6 to a V16, I have heard of V24 with cylinder sizes of 53ci, 71ci, and 92ci. They were an amazing piece of design, besides being 2 strokes, completely symmetrical so you could bolt the turbos, superchargers, starters, pumps, etc, to either side, heads could go on either way and either bank, cranks could turn either way to suit propeller torque in boats, and the V16 was two V8 blocks bolted together. I have heard of two V12s bolted together to make V24 GenSets but have never seen one, nor found anyone who could confirm it.

It’s got a 8v71 in it and they made engines in configurations from 1cylinder up to v24s in sizes from 53ci per cylinder,71ci,92ci,110ci and149ci all were two strokes

We have Lowes fuel trucks in Australia too. Im a freight train driver and worked for years in NSW until earlier this year. Our company used Lowes to fuel our locomotives.

Great video! However, they didn't show particularly large road trains. There is a video that will knock your socks off, you'll love it! It shows the longest road train in Australia and also a roadmachine that can move HUGE buildings / equipment, etc. It's by YT channel Extreme World, it's called 'The World's Longest Truck - Road Train in Australia'. Biggest differences between trucking in Australia versus America are our Australian trucks are designed to carry much heavier loads (eg around 40 tonnes in a single trailer configuration and just over 60 tonnes in a b-double configuration) and our trucks also have longer distances to travel between towns in many instances.

I think what this video is missing is how common it is to see trucks on the road, Bdoubles Btripples, tripple trains are all pretty common and quads aren't that uncommon in the outback either!

At around 04:21 you wonder where the video is shot.... It looks very much like the "Hume highway" between Sydney and Canberra. Rego plates look like NSW too from the colours even though they are too blurred to read. This area is called the "Southern Highlands"

Many of the Kenworth cabovers are K200s. 6x4s are the most common wheel configuration, but they were available also in 8x4 as well as 10x6 for heavy haul work (although those configurations are also used on normal load applications). Recently, Kenworth Australia released the new K220, with new features.

G'day Ian. Thank you again for another great video. You made a comment about the police escort for a truck. Most of the highway patrol vehicles here are BMW 5 series, I don't know much more than that. I can tell you one night about six months ago I was on the freeway between Sydney and Newcastle and I was doing 110 KMH (the speed limit there). I saw some flashing lights in the background, and less than a minute later this police car screamed by me like I was standing still. As he passed the deep V8 growl was unmistakable. That was really awesome. Best wishes.

Drove triples in Kalgoorlie was scary as hell ,but now I look back some of the most unbelievable times of my life , as solo said seen a lot of strange things ,seen a wedgie go through a windscreen and tore up the driver and now he has it stuffed on his wall and that’s just the tip of the iceberg

I have two friends that drive road trains & one that drives a B-double tipper the same as that . B-doubles are common on our freeways from Adelaide to North Queensland. When they move big loads ( usually mining equipment) the M1is closed & can only be moved at night. Have to be off the road b4 daylight

The blue truck at the 6 minute Marke is a HHA (heavy haulage Australia) truck owned by John Kelly and has a show on 7mate. if you have a VPN set it to Australia and look up 7mate and search for his show it will blow your mind you might not be able to do a video about it but it is definitely worth your time

As a farmer up in queensland my family owns currently 2 trucks, both of them are western stars(only the best) and we used to have an old cab over volvo and we mainly use them to pick up and freight lucerne in the central qld area and there was a guy that actually came up from NSW all the way to our farm to get our hay.

I don't mind the stars mechanically but, I can't say I've driven one out on the road. I've driven a few Kenworths k100, 104 and 108s. A couple of ford's an Ls9000 and a sterling. And one volvo. An F14 I think an 84 or 5 model. They were a good old truck. Pulled terribly, rattled and handled like a bucket of diesel and walked around in the arse end more than walking beam suspension should. But it was an awesome little truck. What model volvo did you own mate?

Pink lights on vehicles means Dept of Transport vehicles. Either inspector vehicles, or in some cases, pilot vehicles 9:14 is none other than the GM two stroke. Loud, heavy on fuel, but huge power. I think the road train footage is from Queensland The yellow and orange truck, not sure if they're still around, but it was the colours of a company called Kalari

At your 3:00 minute mark, here comes the Mud Carter. The Mud Carter is criticised relentlessly over the UHF radio road channel in Sydney (and probably other cities). I don't drive a truck but have the radio in my 4WD. I laugh at the truckie banter.

In some of those clips the locations are in Victoria and the escorts are not Police Cars but belong to a state government department called VIC Roads (You can tell by the orange/Yellow lights, our police cars don't have them, only red and blue as well as white flasher lights) which are responsible for a wide range of tasks such as licences of all motor vehicles, road maintenance, loaded weight (via weigh bridge operations) vehicle registration and logbook law compliance for trucks and ALL roadworthy vehicle compliance and can issue fines and seizures for non compliant vehicles. Similar to in role to highway patrol Police but they can't arrest anyone, instead they call Victoria police for assistance when needed. Every state in Australia has an equivalent department.

They've recently stopped using Holden Commodores as police cars now as Holden have ceased production. They are now using Kia, BMW and I've seen a few Dodge/Chrysler police cars too. The road trains here are massive especially in the outback. Some parts of the outback there are no speed limits.

They sure are called a 5th wheel, but also a turntable, depending on who you talk to in the industry. Common turntables are from companies like SAF, JOST, Khitch, probably a couple others I can't think of right now. We run a lot of SAF and JOST turntables at the trucking company I work for. At 01:10, it is not a Police car. Police in Australia use red and blue lights, purple is used by road transport and registration authorities such as VicRoads in Victoria, Australia. And the equivalent in other states. We are lucky in Australia to have such a diverse range of trucks and Prime movers. I think part of the reason for such a diverse range of trucks here is because of the diverse requirements that our country presents. As some others have said, you should check out "outback truckers" if you haven't already. Some pretty hardcore stuff goes on from time to time on that show.

I worked at Barker Trailers, in Woodend, Victoria for 7 years. They made the trailers on the green P3 Transport beast. Full, inhouse custom paintshop. It was always a good day when the driver would come to pick up the new trailers, even better when the whole rig was new, and , like that one, with absolutely no expense spared! Some were even more spectacular than that! Now I'm in northern Europe- by comparison, this is the land of midget trucks. Sometimes I really miss Australia.......

Enjoying your work . Most of this is filmed around Victoria/New South Wales probably on the Hume Hwy , good now ,death-trap 20yrs ago. Keep it up .

Can't remember which town it was in (in Victoria), but there was a car show with many old classics. One guy brought down his giant steam truck. Actually got stuck behind it on the way home. It was very slow.

All these nice shiny trucks you see are mainly on the East Coast, if they are anywhere near the middle of nowhere you'll find those nice shiny bumpers turn into bullbars.

Look up, Illawarra convoy, A convoy of AUSSIE trucks and bikes supporting charity. They get up to 800 + Trucks and over 1000 Bikes. They all make a donation to join. It raises over $1 million per year to local charities. " GO " Illawarra.

The heaviest loads on multi trailer setups have a 350hp power trailer unit between trailers. Great design and reliability is demanded in Australia. Breakdowns can happen three hundred miles from help. Our American brothers find this pressure difficult but CB radio here keeps drivers friends.

The company that bought the steering trailer with blue trucks ended up being forced into bankruptcy because of the government and not paying for a lot of massive loads. Don’t remember what exactly happened but he went from one of the biggest companies to having nothing left to his name because the invoices were not paid and he was told that they didn’t agree to the amount and yet they let him deliver and organise all the people needed to deliver the loads it was truly heartbreaking what happened

At around the 6:50 minute mark, the old truck, that was my fathers (Mex Devlin) 28 Dodge half ton truck. All very very original EXCEPT for the dif, he paid a very clever man to put a toyota hilux diff centre, still using the original axles, and the bloody thing would scoot along at 70 mph not a problem. He kept regular rego on it and not club registration, because it was... "his ute". Used to drive the bloody thing everywhere...

I've never seen a truck/trailer in the USA like the B-double (Truck+Trailer+Trailer) in Oz. Often 34 tyres. They are everywhere here.

Try and find vidoe's of the iron ore trucks hauling around port hedland Western Australia. Quad configuration, depending on weights, but most run quad axle side tipping trailers

Was kinda weird being the first video I saw after driving my 45 min commute driving on the right and seeing driving on the left side. A slight moment of something was off here until I realized. There's some videos taken from emergency vehicle driving that's amazing to see, but those I've put on my playlist have gone away.

Green truck is called a B-Double, not a road train. A road train is a number of trailers being towed, Usually from the B-Double up to 5 - 6 traliers

Aus is a beautiful country my man, I highly recommend getting over here and travelling it. Much like America except you can not see another car for days on end. Truely isolated.
