Hello from Baku, Azerbaijan! Thank you for the video. I have been waiting for it since the last year! It was really fun to watch it and yes, we are totally OK to share our borders with Russia, Iran and Turkey. Although throughout our history these mentioned neighboring countries have invaded us multiple times. Nowadays we are completely safe and sound with good relations with our neighbors. Besides, in the video there were some moments which were not exactly close to reality. Here you can find fully honest truth regarding the mentioned facts in the video from someone who lives in Baku: Fact 10: Azerbaijan is located right at the borders of Europe and Asia where East meets the West. Commonly, Azerbaijan is considered an Asian country, but politically Azerbaijan is integrated more with Europe and tries to keep that balance between the two. Therefore, you can find the most fascinating buildings with amazing architecture in Baku. It is a carefully blended Eastern and Western culture. Moreover, the capital Baku is the largest city in the region and lies 27 meters below sea level. Fact 9: The name of those mentioned pancakes is Qutab [Gutab] and they might just look like the pancakes, but they taste completely different from those sweet pancakes you ever tasted. It's crunchy and spicy. Azerbaijani cuisine is rich with super tasty dishes. If you visit Azerbaijan you have to taste: Dolma in grape leaves, Azeri Plov, Azeri Kebab, Dushbara and many more. In fact, not any single tourist who visited Azerbaijan can complain about the food. This is what we do well and are very proud of! Fact 8: We love tea!!! If you visit any Azeri family, they will definitely serve you a cup of tea first. We love to blend the tea with some special herbs and it makes it extremely tasty. And yes, tea here doesn't have any bitter taste. We have our own tea plantations which have a soft and delicate flavor. And she is right, tea can be served with jam as well. But the jam served next to the tea is totally different from the jam you might think of! There are plenty of variations of jams and each of them has a unique aroma and taste. Also, the jam makes the tea even sweeter. When it comes to rose water, sorry, that’s not true (never heard of it). And very quick about the arranged marriages: nowadays, it is done only in small villages very far away from the big cities. Azerbaijan is adopting the Western take on marriages and you barely find any family forcing their daughter to marry someone she doesn’t like. Besides, it's true about the tea ceremony. When the families from both sides meet each other for the first time, and if the father of the girl likes the family of the guy, they serve the cup of tea with some sugar in it, which indicates that he is ok with the upcoming wedding. Fact 7: The Karabagh horse is our national animal. And no, we do not eat horse meat at all! Never! How can we it what is our national animal?! It sounds crazy for us to eat horse meat! We eat only beef and lamb, but you can also find pork if you want. Lamb is tasty, you should try it! Fact 6: We do use proverbs a lot. Here is a definition of the mentioned examples: Cheap meat never makes a good soup - you need to pay the price if you want to archive something or you need to put your effort into it. Politeness is not sold in the bazaar - you can’t buy politeness or respect towards you in the, you-are-right, grocery store. I tried to draw the eyebrow, but I ended up poking the eye - which means when you try to do something good, but in the end you are messing it up and making it even worse. And here is one from me: When a cat can’t reach the meat, it says it stinks - which means when someone can’t get what he wanted, he starts to complain about it. Fact 5: Neft Dashlary or Oil Rocks is a fully functioning settlement right in the middle of Caspian Sea. But it’s not for homeless people; it’s for people who work for oil companies and are directly involved with the oil and gas industry. I know it looks fascinating. Fact 4: not true. You can’t see anyone's arms resting anywhere in the city. Maybe only at the GYM. Fact 3: yes. Azerbaijan is known for MUD volcanos as well and they are completely harmless. They are small and they do not erupt (maximum, you can see some bubbles in it) When it comes to the smell… nope, not true at all. Mud volcanos are located very far away from Baku city and Baku is full of beautiful parks and gardens so it smells like any other city with only one exception - the coast line. The thing is, Baku is located on the Western coast of Caspian Sea, and that part of the sea is rich with oil and gas. So naturally, the Caspian Sea smells money, as we say it here. Cuz we export that oil and invest it into the city infrastructure. Baku wouldn’t be that beautiful without that smell. Again, it smells only if you get really, really close to the sea. Fact 2: Little Venice… well... cheap imitation of Italian Venice. An artificial canal around the one restaurant. Boring as hell. Fact 1: We do show respect for the bread. Its mostly cuz of the wars through the history. During the wars bread was in deficit and still, people were sharing their last piece of bread with others in order to survive. (some people also link it to the religion (not everybody)) And not everybody kisses the bread if it falls down on the floor (mostly kids do that) in fact, an adult will just pick the bread up and will put it somewhere on a bench, for instance, if he will see it on the ground in the street. Overall, Azerbaijan is one of the most beautiful countries with the breathtaking landscapes, amazing architecture, delicious food, cool traditions and most importantly, with lovely people who no matter what will help and meet you with that famous Caucasian hospitality. Visit Azerbaijan and you will never regret it!!!

Bread is also considered to be sacred for most of the Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Belarus, Russia etc.). In my country we say that 'Bread is the head of everything', meaning it's the most important food. And it is so sacred because historically Eastern Europe is reach with wheat and other cultures, and bread was the most available food, so it saved many families from hunger during wars and other periods of crisis. BTW, thank you for this video ❤
