American REACTS to BABYMETAL - BABYMETAL DEATH 

This is basically a song to introduce BABYMETAL to the crowd. "Desu" means "I am," or "we are." They are literally saying, "I am Su-metal, I am Moametal, I am Momo-metal, we are BABYMETAL."

This song is normally their first in the set, like a introduction, except in some shows, like the LEGEND 1997 show (which you should def. check out). This version was also Momo's first song as a member so it was pretty cool to hear the crowd support her. Welcome back to the Foxhole. They're celebrating 10 years anniversary of the first album and also recently released a Gimme Chocolate!! challenge on social media. A week ago they held a live show called Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal 21 birthday and this blaster intro was the opener as usual. This was the first "Babymetal Death" version with MomoMetal as an official member and it was a come back song after December 2017 iirc. They did Babymetal Death Shin Version at Budokan 2021 but it's a way different version. Btw don't miss out the live version at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's even more shocking and impactful with the theatrical performance. Next weekend they will release a new collab song along with F.Hero and Body Slam called "Leave It All Behind", stay tunned for more. Anyway always remember that we are -NotACult- 🦊🤘💀

Seen them multiple times live, and they usually start with DEATH, it is the wildest thing ever! The song is heavy and not too much on the choreo/lyrics side of things, so everyone just goes berserk! And then you have to try and survive the rest of the show... Good times every time!

Great reaction. This video was released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first album being released - 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on that first album. They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't really use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018. This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as the official new third member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu". The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu (you were right) means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death". In your own time do yourself a favour and watch the live video for 'BABYMETAL Death' live at Legend 1997 and see how they celebrated Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013 (it was the finale rather than the intro that night). You got it right, 'desu' (the u is silent), means/is used for all the situations: they are, we are, I am, you are, etc. But their is actually a pun, because Japanese people when pronouncing the English word Death, their language has no 'th' sound so it often comes out as 'des'. Obviously very metal to have a song with death in the title, but yeah... punny. 🙂

I hope you get to see them live some day. We are not a cult but it feels great to just forget your troubles for an hour or so and worship in the name of the Fox God and his chosen lol! It's definitely an experience lol.

Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west.
