Another left field reaction, I love it!! Balamory was set in the town of Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull off of the Scottish west coast. Miss Hoolie was played by Julie Wilson Nimmo (who I was at high school with), and she’s married to Greg Hemphill, who plays Victor McDade in Still Game!! And of course Archie the inventor is played by Miles Jupp, which still seems bizarre!!

Most of the houses shown in the intro are real and are on the island, but with some little expectations, the pink castle is actually in North Berwick, and yes, it is actually pink. And it is a hotel, just like the yellow castle. The other houses are still there, but they have changed colour over the years. The White House isn't actually a police station. The nursery was filmed in Glasgow. The yellow bus was at the transport museum. The guy who played Spencer became a bus driver in Dundee for a little while but then moved back to America and got married. Also, his daughter is an adult film star named Skin Diamond. However, in 2017, she revealed she ditched the X-rated films and launched her pop career: "I’ve given so much of my sexuality to the public for such a long time. Now it’s time to show them something else." "I realised I was so focused on work all the time that I was living this Skin Diamond persona 24/7 and losing sight of who I was as a person." Mary Riggans, who plays Suzie She was in Take the High Road, Till A' the Seas Run Dry, Taggart, and Still Game, and then Balamory. Sadly, Mary died in December 2013 at the age of 78 after suffering a stroke the year before. After hearing the news, Julie Wilson Nimmo expressed: "I was shocked and saddened to hear about Mary's passing. "We worked together for years; she was a brilliant actress and will be remembered fondly by the Balamory family." Juliet Cadzow, who plays Edie After Balamory, Juliet went on to appear in Still Game, Doctor Who, and Skins, as well as the Scottish soap opera River City. Her most recent role was in the 2018 BBC thriller series Clique. Julie recently touched on her surprise that the show was 20 years old and told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "I was absolutely astonished when I was rung up and told it was 20 years of Balamory. "I don't know where the time has gone. I think it was the first pre-school soap; it combined drama, documentary, and fun activities for pre-school children. There was a lot of humour and good characters." Penny Pocket, played by Kim Tserkezie Kim was diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disorder, spinal muscular atrophy, as a child and used a wheelchair for most of her life. Away from Balamory, Kim hasn't been in the entertainment world much, but she did scoop two Royal Television Awards for her leading role in the short film Obsession. She was also named one of the 100 most influential disabled people in the UK for the Shaw Trust Power 100 in 2019. PC Plum played Andrew Agnew. After Balamory, Andrew went to star in pantomimes and also directed episodes of Me Too. Josie Jump was originally played by Buki Akib. Buki Akib originally played the role of Josie but had to leave because her filming commitments clashed with pursuing an arts degree. She went on to become a stylist and fashion designer. She was replaced by Kasia Haddad in series three, which led to some confusion for younger viewers. Some children couldn't understand why Josie looked different, and parents demanded to know what had happened to the original Josie. After Balamory, Kasia went on to play Wendy in Doctors. Archie the Inventor, played by Miles Jupp After the balamory, the character caused some issues with his stand-up career as parents started to bring their children to the shows. Speaking to The Guardian, Miles explained: "I went on stage, and there were 10 children in the front row. Nightmare. "The show was only 40 minutes long, and I had to keep cutting huge chunks of filth." Despite first struggling to find his feet, Miles went on to star in films and series' such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Sherlock Holmes, Johnny English Reborn, The Legend of Tarzan, The Thick of It, Outnumbered, and Netflix's The Crown. Miss Hoolie, played by Julie Wilson Nimmo During her time on the show, she admitted that she had become so well known from the show that she was no longer able to take her children to the park without being mobbed by fans. When Balamory came to an end, Julie starred in a couple of radio shows and was cast as DS Megan Squire in the BBC Scotland comedy show Scot Squad; she even arrested TV legend Lorraine Kelly in one episode. Julie is now married to Still Game star Greg Hemphill, who plays main character Victor McDade and appeared in an episode alongside her husband in 2018.

OK, we hadn't expected the PC Plum song to manage to reference the title sequence to 'The Bill', Gilbert & Sullivan and Brian May in a mere 90 seconds! Had to watch that bit twice! :-)

Here's a fun fact: Miles Jupp who plays Archie (although not in this episode) Was in his early 20s when he did this show which is hard to believe because he looks older in the show than he does in real life.

I grew up with this show, there is a video, showing, the actress who played Miss Hoolie revisiting the set recently and nothing has changed, it made me wanna visit tobermory

I was out of this age range when it first came out but I remember the trailer. It said "Everyone one wants to go to Balamory" and showed kids trying to get there anyway they could. One loaded all his stuffed toys onto a wagon, another tried to build a hot-air balloon out of a laundry basket and helium balloons, a girl dressed up as a parcel and tried to post herself there. Balamory also cropped up a few times on topical comedy shows like Mock the Week and Dead Ringers.

Used to love this show as a kid, it’d be interesting to see an episode with Spencer as he was the lone American living in Balamory (and my favourite character!). Also they changed Josie Jump’s actress, I believe the original actress left to go back to university. I think this episode is with her second actress? I can’t remember names at the moment…

My thoughts on the show as a adult it’s still nostalgic to me and love the theme tune and the songs of every character. My favourite characters are Miss Hoolie and Pc Plum.
