Ooh I’m so stoked to watch this! I literally subscribed when you first started your rugby reactions just so that I could watch your reactions to South African players and the team. Very excited that Cheslin is your fav, he is so talented and such an amazing athlete. Aw yeah it’s so delightful watching you get so excited watching him play! So the “helmet” he wears is a scrum cap, it doesn’t offer much/any protection except for players ears. It protects players from cauliflower ears. If you look at players you will see a quite a few of them have permanently swollen ears as a result of blunt trauma to their ears (internal bleeding mostly)

Man I had to pause the video and say I appreciate the energy in the reaction. I've watched a ton of reaction videos on Cheslin and I feel a lot of people just don't understand how hard it is for someone of his height and size to make these amazing plays let alone the spatial awareness to put yourself in a position to do so. It takes a lot of dedication and mental fortitude. So it's one thing when someone reacts to his speed but it's another level when you understand why and how is he is able to perform like this. So definitely appreciate the energy man keep it up.

The score for the South Africa vs France game was SA 29 - 28 FRA. For France to win they basically needed a conversion, which is 2 points. Which is exactly what Kolbe charged down after France's second try. There were obviously many factors at play but it's significant because you hardly ever see anyone make it to the kicker, the charge is usually to distract, but if the kicker takes too long the runner can literally go pick the ball up if he wanted to. An actual charge down though, in a quarter final game was super epic to see 🔥

@@QSNgg The law states, that the charge can begin when the kicker starts to move in any direction, in order to run up and kick the ball. It was really a touch and go, and I personally think Cheslin stole half a second there.
@privatepanda6808
@privatepanda6808 7 месяцев назад
You can charge down the kick as soon as the place kicker has started his run up to the ball, this can even be if he twitches slightly to move towards the ball. It happens very rarely has the kicker is usually far enough away from the try line (where the other team have to be behind) that it is kicked way before anyone gets there. Cheslin got there as Thomas Ramos (the kicker) took a longer/slower run up then usual allowing Cheslin time to get the block. The final score was South Africa 29 France 28 so that blocked conversion basically won South Africa the game, this was a Quater final match at the 2023 world cup that was held in France as well. Hope that makes some sense. Love the videos dude keep it up.

South African here. Jonah Lomu was one of the greatest players rugby ever saw. That man was a machine. I'm old enough to have watched the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a young woman and he had our country on the edge of our seats. He was difficult to tackle, he had an almost preternatural speed, agility and strength for a man his size. 16:10 "What year was this?" World Cup 2023. Quarter Finals. An incredible weekend of rugby. NZ beat Ireland (who were ranked #1 at the time) after being written off having been destroyed in a warmup game by the Springboks and losing to France in the group stage. (if you like sports narratives there was some revenge at play after Ireland won a series in NZ in 2022 but that's for another comment section lol) Argentina beat Wales and Englnad beat Fiji, both very competitive and entertaining games. France v South Africa was insane. France were higher ranked and were playing at home, South Africa the defending champions. It was Dupont's first game back after a cheekbone fracture during the group stage (hence the scrum cap). Both teams seemed to be scoring at will, one after the other. SA won by a single point, which they would go on to do in both the semi-final and the final.

Your only allowed to attack the conversion as soon as the player start his run up to the ball before kicking it thats when a player must sprint. So for cheslin kolbe to sprint and block that conversion proves how quick he is

Some of these clips show Kolbe playing Rugby Sevens, this is a shortened version of the game played with only seven players on each side rather than fifteen. It’s still played on the same size pitch but with much shorter halves than fifteen a side. This is the version of rugby that is played at the Olympics and there is a separate international circuit. It’s well with a look, with fewer players on the pitch there is obviously much more space with a greater emphasis on speed and agility of players compared to fifteen a side.

Agreed with the other comments, Jonah Lomu is an absolute must watch, he revolutionised rugby in the 90s as a modern winger 20 years ahead of his time. Antoine Dupont is also well worth a watch as the current best player in the world! For a more defensive video, Jerry Collins was one of the biggest tacklers of all time. Richie McCaw is the most legendary All Blacks captain of all time, and Thierry Dusautoir was a superb tackler for France! Loving these videos, keep it up! Really got into the NFL in the last few years as a rugby fan, so much we can learn from each other’s sports!

Thank your for your presentation. I m from a rugby background and I find it interesting to watch the reaction of people who play a different sport. I find that in general people do not understand the real differences between say rugby and football. Pads are essential for blocking; their role in tackling can be disputed. There are similarities which you point out very effectively. Football has analysed how to use the body effectively when tackling etc for far longer than rugby has.but the principles of sinking at the knees and driving with full body force through the target are very similar, but details of use of arms vs shoulder charge tackles impact the safety strongly. I must say I have always thought that Cheslin Kolbe reminds me of Barry Sanders, a juker rather than a swerver, masters at getting the defender to commit , and then wrong footing them. A great football running back who reminded me of the swerving type of rugby runner was Gayle Sayers. He could glide by a defender. Anyhow, thanks for a worthwhile reaction show.
@QSNgg
@QSNgg 3 месяца назад
You said it so beautifully David! I agree with all of your perspectives on rugby and football. And the Gayle Sayers comparison is spot on!! Thanks so much for your amazing commentary and exceptional insight. There are so many similarities between both sports especially like you brilliantly mentioned with tackling and running/juking abilities. I love watching players like Cheslin that create so much magic out of seeming impossible situations. It always leaves me dumbfounded to see that type of ability showcased at the highest level I appreciate you 🙌🏽❤️

For conversions after a try, you are legally allowed to run and charge down the kick when the kicker begins his run up. The reason you don't see it that often is because it's extremely difficult to do it and you need to be Hella fast. However you may not start running until the kicker begins moving forward to make the conversion, if you do they get to reset and you may not charge down at all. For penalty kicks for posts you may not charge down the kicker as it is illegal. Hope that helps.

Cheslin is the best rugby player in history (my opinion). It is unfortunate that all opposing teams' defence stick to him like super glue. But I guess that is the only way to stop him. But he will always find a gap and make the team score, even if he is not the one making the try. Even his storm down against France. He made that choice by himself, and won that game for SA.

I know the moment has long since passed, but re charging down the kick. Cheslin can run as soon as the kicker moves. And the kicker just so happened to be one of his (Cheslin) old team-mates from his club days in France, so he knew the entire pre-kick sequence timing and ran him down. It eventually resulted in the Springboks having sufficient points to win the quarter final 2023 World Cup game and advance through to the semis and then go on to win our 4th rugby world cup.

Btw, I saw you we're asking how fast Cheslin was. Well, he runs a 100m in 10.7, he ran that as a schoolboy so he is now much faster, however he is one of the slower Outside Backs in the Bok Squad. This is due to the fact that he has gained significant size, meaning he isn't running at his max possible speed. I reckon he would have been able to run a 10.6, maybe even a 10.59 at his peak.

Not sure if someone answered you - a conversion can be blocked by the opposition players; the opposition player may start the charge-down the moment the kicker starts with his run-up to take the kick. In this case, Kolbe started running the moment the French kicker started moving forward to take the kick.
