Psychopath, when he was being advised by scientists about the possible outcome of his actions before being investigated for the 200,000 + covid deaths, his answer was 'let the bodies pile high.' And they did, very high. To which he only worried about himself
Until he pushes the second lady out the window he is impersonating the character 'Francis Urquhart' from the original UK version of House of Cards (made in the early 90s). Francis Urquhart was renamed Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey's charcter) in the Netflix US version... but the stories are similar.
Technically he resigned. Quirk of the constitution. Even when defeated at election the PM technically resigns, rather than tries to carry on without support from Parliament. A PM that didn't resign would have to be sacked by the King, not sure if that has ever happened in the UK, but I know the Governor General of Australia sacked the Australian PM in the 70's on behalf of the Queen.
The original "House of Cards " tv series is in my top 5 of all along with the original tv series " Edge of Darkness " both dark and very well scripted. Films were made of both but beating the original is always difficult.
He's not actually impersonating Boris but rather Ian Richardson from the original UK version of House of Cards. That's why he doesn't sound like Boris.
I think his impressions are all supposed to be mentally over the top to the extent they don’t really sound realistic- which is a very British idiosyncratic view to comedy in general- hence the existence of people like PETE AND DUD or SPIKE MILLIGAN or MONTY PYTHON- or one of a hundred other iconic nutters that quite often anyone outside of the U.K. Just doesn’t get.
I wondered if Paul Whitehouse was paying homage to Sir Humphrey Appleton in 'Yes Minister' & 'Yes Prime Minister', which were satirical comedies about an apparently clueless British government minister and his advisers.
The . . .erm . . . falling effect was meant to look an unreal rubbish effect. That is the cultural evolution of the sort of 'falling' effects that you'd see in Spike Milligan's 'Q' series or Python. it's actually mocking poor effects.
There IS a certain truth to this. Boris does something awful and then witters something in Latin that everyone finds charmingly eccentric and everyone laughs forgetting what the awful thing was. It's been annoyingly effective. For all the jovial buffoon act there is also the claim that beneath it all IS a very calculating, cynical figure. Hence the Ian Richardson/House Of Cards impression. I wouldn't think the sketch would travel too well though!
The point of “The Love Box In Your Living Room” show was to spoof the 100 year history of the BBC. From its inception in radio to present day. There are loads of sketches and they aren’t going for realistic impressions rather just mocking the (Bleep) out of the BBC and it’s truly marvelous when watching it in its entirety. I can see how watching one random clip from the show without greater context can be either confusing or disappointing because it’s meant to be watched from beginning to end
The BBC has just celebrated it's 100 year anniversary. Lovebox in your Living Room is a celebratory parody of all the different programmes broadcast over that period. I'm guessing this clip is a parody of the original House of Cards which the Netflix series is based on.
Yes, I agree with you King Boomer. I think they would have a field day over todays current crop Rishi and Boris over here, Trump and Biden over in the states. I quite like Harry Enfield's impersonation of Boris, his done him quite well. Boris is an eccentric character in Britain, a bit like Trump. A bit of a marmite figure, some like him and some hate him.
If you like Harry Enfield you really should check out the skits "Tim nice but dim" and "Mr Dead". Paul Whitehouse had some amazing performances as a drunk old man "Rowley Birkin QC" that still make me laugh. Keep up the great reactions.

Nadine Dorries was the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. She is well known for her testiness, and her doe-eyed admiration of, and unstinting loyalty to, Boris Johnson. She magnificently evidenced a certain unsuitability for holding high office when, under questioning by a Parliamentary committee about her intention to sell off to the private sector the state-owned British broadcaster Channel 4, she said it was unjustifiable that the TV station continued to be funded by taxpayers. It was immediately pointed out to her that Channel 4 has only ever been funded by commercial advertising revenue, a point which had her in a state of quiet embarrassment followed by stuttering "And... so... although it(')s... yeah, and... but..." 😂. There's a montage of audio clips of her, including the committee encounter, with the relevant accompanying images, on my channel. Or just web-search the original video clips.
Have you seen the original House Of Cards with Ian Richardson that was done some years before the US version with Kevin Spacey? You will better understand the people falling off buildings if you watch that. Richardson comes across every bit as evil as Spacey, if not more. But he gets a brilliant comeuppance. Gotta see it!
Yeah wasnt the best of his work, unfortunately Harry Enfield has done a lot of fairly weak comedy but also some hilarious, original and intelligent comedy also, he can be hit and miss.
Haven't you seen the original British TV show "House of Cards" and "To Play the King" this scit based on? It's well worth watching. This was as much about nostalgia for us Brits with the Urquhart revival as it was taking the Mick out of Boris.
You should watch Harry Enfield in “The Windsors” where he plays Prince Charles it’s a real funny series taking the piss out of the Royal Family. I think there’s 3 series altogether. This one was over my head as I’ve never seen House of Cards
The love box in your living room was a special made for the BBC's 100 year anniversery last year. Harry was joined by Pual for some of it. It was a spoof look at the history of the BBC and Britain over 100 years.
