The Snowman ad and song is in the style of the popular 1982 animated film of the same name (based on an older book). It's common to see it on TV around Christmas.
The song is based on Aled Jones "Walking in the Air" (probably is him singing this too). Aled Jones also sang with Mike Oldfield in "Pictures in the Dark".
@@4Astaroth though the song in the film was sung byPeter Auty. Aled jones later did a rendition of the song became famous because of it and people later beleived he sung for the film its almost the mandela effect.
I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but it was a younger singer who sang it in the ad as Aled Jones was getting on for 50 when that ad came out. Also, the reason that Aled Jones got to sing on the record release was that by the time they were releasing it, the kid who sang it in The Snowman animation, his bollock's had dropped, and he could literally no longer sing it the same. So Aled was picked. There's also another Snowman based IRN BRU™ ad if I'm not mistaken?
'Fanny' is a UK/Irish colloquial term for a Vagina but in olden days it was a common girls name. That's why the Dad was aghast, before he sipped his Irn bru, at his daughter's name. Also, in the earlier advert where the son comes home and catches his parents and a neighbour having, well, adult fun, what he says in Scottish slang is "steamy windys" meaning steamy windows. The earlier adverts featured in this list had narratives based upon Irn Bru's long running theme of the drink giving you superhero like strength because it has (a minute amount of) iron, in the form of ammonium ferric citrate. All the adverts featuring someone knocking over very heavy objects, lifting something impossibly heavy, or breaking something unbreakable by human hands all play on the super strength theme.
The second one with the snowman is based on the classic Christmas short animated movie The Snowman. You can find it on RU-vid. It runs on TV every Christmas in various countries, not just the UK
All the landmarks in the Snowman ad are real including the Loch Ness Monster .Irn Bru is made from girders that's why it's the colour of rust .and is widely used as a hangover cure .
Forgive the guy, he's American. Most of them couldn't tell the difference between the flags of their own states, let alone between different European countries' flags.
Hello! I'm Scottish (By which I mean: born and raised in scotland. If your grandad was from scotland but you were born in america, you are not scottish). Your respect is appreciated, even though I don't like Irn Bru.
That's not how it works you can makeup your own criteria as you have , but it only applies to you everyone else uses an accepted criteria and definition
@@Steve0272. I'm not Scottish. If you are a third generation born in America, you are American with Scottish ancestry and even that only matters, if you hold up Scottish traditions and mindset. If you don't understand a Scottish accent with no problems, don't say your Scottish.
@kaydisney9872 I suspect even though he claims he's a true scotsman lol, he's not aware of the " no true scotsman fallacy " lol , flawed/ fallacious thinking and irrational
the original song from no 2 is walking in the air from the cartoon "the Snowman" that is in the exact same style as the commercial. the band Nightwish did a fenominal cover of this song
No.2 is a spoof of 'The Snowman' a famous cartoon shown here every Christmas and based on the book by Raymond Briggs. The original version of the song got to No.1 here and made the singer, choir boy Aled Jones a star. Irn Bru famously outsells Coke in Scotland - Probably not for the taste, which is like bubblegum, but because it's widely used as a hangover cure, the Scots being fond of an occasional tipple.😀
I’ve followed you for a while. This was your best reaction video. I was born in the mid-70’s so it was great nostalgia and your reactions were fxing hilarious. I’ve had tears running down my face. Which is good as it’s helped clear my eye infection.
I watch The Snowman every Christmas, and wondered if that ad would make number 1. The parody is brilliant, I remember it coming out. Glad it made number 2 at least!!!!!! 😂
The Snowman is an iconic animation made from hand-drawn drawings, which give it a bit a flicker when used as frames in an animation. This entire ad was done in that exact same style, must have cost a lot of effort. The story of the original is pretty wholesome. Boy make snowman, want to play some more with him, but is send to bed, wakes up, finds the snowman alive, shows him the house, they ride off on a motercycle that can now suddenly fly and visit Santa Claus at the North Pole and a Snowman only dance party, he gets a gift from Santa and they return home. The boy wakes up. Was it all a dream? The snowman has melted, was his friend not real? But then he finds the gift from Santa and is thankful for the time he had spend with the snowman. The original is without a voiceover, it is just the title song. In the ad they adapted the lyrics of the original song.
Irn bru is amazing and a good hangover cure. The look on your face was absolutely hilarious dude. Btw - the second last one is a homage to a famous Christmas book/film by Raymond Briggs called the Snowman (original sung by Aled Jones).
*The song is called "Walking In The Air" and it's taken from "The Snowman" [ Songwriter : Howard Blake ], for which it was written. "The Snowman" is an 1982 animated television film, which is based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name. The song is the centrepiece of "The Snowman", which is a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. "Walking In The Air" was covered by the famous Finnish Symphonic Metal band NIGHTWISH for their second studio album "Oceanborn", which was released in 1998.* 🎵🎸💿🔊🔥
You may have missed the joke in the new born baby ad as Fanny is a slang word for a certain lady part. You got the English/Scotish rivalry though. The orginal song 'Walking in the Air' was a no.1 hit for a small boy called Aled Jones from Wales who sung it the the animated tale that Christmas.
I know Americans can't do geography, but the video thumbnail has the Irish flag, not the Scottish flag. Don't they have google in America? The Scottish flag even appears in one of the ads!
He has seen the Irn Bru ads. He is now one of us. 😂 Also, ignore the high school and rock ads. They bombed and are universally hated. EDIT: They're weird but won awards. I've heard Americans describe it as a kind of cream soda. To us it's just IRB-BRU in the same way it's sister drink Tizer "is just red flavour." RU-vid 'The Snowman' by Aled Jones. That's the original and is from a Raymond Briggs animated Christmas movie. It obviously had his blessing and is a wonderful parody.
I'm not surprised you were having a hard time decoding some of their accents! The "I used to be a man" advert was aired in 2000 but made in a retro style. It was banned a few years later after complaints were made that it was offensive to the transgender community, although that doesn't seem to have been Irn-Bru's intention. I haven't seen a lot of these before - The Snowman had my crying with laughter at both the advert and your horrified reaction to it 🤣 - in case it hasn't crossed the Atlantic, The Snowman (which this is based on) is a traditional English Christmas classic that has been a staple of the festive season for over 40 years, but in this version they've crammed in every famous Scottish landmark they could. There are some more great ones - search for "A brief history of Irn-Bru's most controversial adverts" (especially Fiery Irn-Bru)
The Snowman ad shows famous Scottish location like Loch Ness (with monster),Edinburgh Castle, the Glenfinnan viaduct as seen in Harry Potter ending in Glasgow's George Square in front of the city Chambers
Enjoyed your reaction, only wish you could have understood more of the Scottish accent, but the look of shock on your face at points made me laugh out loud.
You should check out the ‘Tango’ ads too. They’re brilliant! 😂. And insane. Some had to be banned as children would hit other kids and run off saying you’ve been tango’ed! 😂
steamy windows is of course a Tina Turner reference. The snowman add was a tribute to the Late great raymong Briggs, who created "The Snowman" and many other famous illustrated and cartoon works, including the rather disturbing "when the wind blows" which is about nuclear winter, and fungus the bogeyman
I was so stunned by the butcher one, I just sat here staring while 2 whole youtube ads played after it and I never even bothered to skip them (as I usually do)!
You should react to the snowman on one of you Christmas videos which is what the snowman ad was based on. It is a Christmas tradition to watche the snowman at xmas here.
She said, "I moved my stuff in like we agreed, and that TV was so big." That wasn't a strong Scottish accent. It was toned down for TV. I once went to Glasgow for work with a friend, we stopped to ask an elderly man for directions, we couldn't understand a single word he said. The friend I was with was married to a woman who grew up in a suburb of Glasgow, which made me realise he was laying it on thick because we were English. The Scots love their English neighbours.
No one can prepare you for the Scottish sense of humour. We much prefer these funny adverts that grab your attention rather than "wholesome" adverts that are easier to ignore and forget. And Irn-Bru does this immaculately every time. (Also my sister knows the main guy in the parody of High School Musical Irn _bru advert, number 6 in this list, which added another layer of enjoyment for me.)
@@NormyTresno it’s not Stop lying First off manufactured in Falkirk then Glasgow and now in Cumbernauld Any mair lies then What a boring life you must have
@@victr2098 Thanks for updating me. I hadn't realised they'd moved from Notts to Scotland - as it should be. As far as I'm aware they've still got their factories in Russia, though, which I find pretty awesome 😊
@@NormyTres Hi, 🙋🏻♀️ they might actually still have some place in England, I just know that they do actually produce a lot of it here in Scotland, as they should. I have to say, I was actually really surprised when I found out they had a place in Russia, of all the places. 🤗
You feel nostalgic because the advert is a take on the film The Snowman from the eighties that you have no doubt seen in your childhood at some point or another. If you haven't seen the film you'll probably have heard "Walking in the Air" before.
Spelt irn, but pronounced iron. A very popular drink in and of Scotland. As others have pointed out, the thumbnail depicts the Irish flag. Scottish one is the blue with white diagonal cross
15:35 For over 20 years i didn't knew this was a cover : Nightwish (Walking in the Air Live Performance) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9icKP1b44TA.html
There’s a well known saying from glasgow , and it’s a glasgow kiss. Meaning head butting when there fighting. That’s what the vending machine was doing when they thumped it. Glasgow kiss 😂😂
The older adverts play on the tag line "Made from Girders" which is why everyone who drinks it in the ads are strong and accidently breaking or destroying things. The songs are hilarious as they just don't take themselves seriously in the slightest.
in scotland irn -bru outsells coca cola...and they have for years done these commericals that are cheeky , funny and tongue in cheek..and most important remembarable.....and looking at this my typing/spelling sucks..lol
There are some stores in the US that sell it, I saw a RU-vid from two girls who react to British stuff there is a I believe a wallmarts near them in Ohio with a British section which stocked it
Omg...diese Frau würde mich den Wahnsinn treiben. Gott, entspannt sich doch mal. Weniger Coffein Drinks, sind etwas gesünder. Es geht doch echt entspannter.
Hallo Thanks for the nice videos. Fun to hear what you think. I am from Denmark and I think it would be interesting to hear what you think of my country, as there are many videos about Copenhagen, Maybe you can start there? 😊
