American Reacts to Last FPV FG MKII GS Ever Built! with John Bowe

The last Holden off the line was not given a build plate to prevent it being registered, so that it would stay a historical item.

I have a 2015 FGX XR8 in Victory Gold. Only 39 XR8 Victory Gold manual cars were produced. Same motor as this GS, just with a slightly different tune and 335kw of power, up from 315kw.

The roots of FPV can be traced back to 1991, when the English automotive engineering company Tickford began a collaboration with Ford Australia to produce high-performance variants of the Australian Falcon range. The partnership, Tickford Vehicle Engineering, saw the introduction of the Ford Falcon S-XR6 and Ford Falcon S-XR8 models. This was followed in October 1999 by the launch of the Ford Tickford Experience dealer network and the FTE T-Series range based on Ford's AU Falcon and Fairlane models. In 2002, following the purchase of Tickford by Prodrive, the Ford Performance Vehicles company was formed as a joint venture between Ford Australia and Prodrive. The FPV brand name was created to replace the FTE name and a restructured range was developed based on the Ford BA Falcon, seeing the return of the GT nameplate to a Falcon-based product for the first time since the "30th Anniversary GT", and as a regular production model since the XB Falcon GT. The range was headlined by the FPV GT-P, and included a turbo-charged model based on the XR6 Turbo. Over the years, FPV expanded the range to include a High Performance version of the Ford Territory as well as a number of special editions and anniversary models. The purchase from Prodrive also saw a factory backed V8 Supercar outfit in Ford Performance Racing. In August 2012, Ford Australia announced its purchase of FPV assets to continue the engineering, manufacturing and marketing of that performance brand in Australia. In preparation for Ford Australia's manufacturing shutdown, the FPV brand and its range were discontinued in 2014, after 12 years of production and marketing. The GT, GT-P and Pursuit received a new stripe package with bonnet decals, a six-speed Tremec T56 manual and the GT-P received 19" five-spoke alloy wheels. FPV also released the Super Pursuit, which was a Pursuit ute with GT-P extras. New six cylinder sedan and utility models were added to the range, the F6 Typhoon (sedan) and F6 Tornado (ute). The F6 was visually separated from the GT range with the use of a different pattern in the front bumper grill mesh, and a smaller boot spoiler on the sedan. F6 models were powered by FPV's version of the Ford Barra engine, a 4.0 litre DOHC 24-valve turbocharged inline-six with variable cam timing producing 270 kW (367 PS; 362 bhp) at 5,250 rpm and 550 N⋅m (410 lb⋅ft) at 2,000 - 4,250 rpm.

Although thoughout this video you and John Bowe have referred to the engine as a Coyote, they are actually called a Miami, a variant to the Coyote engine. The Miami was a supercharged variant designed by FPV (a joint - venture by Ford Australia and Prodrive) while the Coyote was still in development. Pre-production engines were shipped to Australia where they were fitted with Australian developed superchargers. The blocks and crank were common with the US Coyote engine but the sump, rods, pistons, intake manifold, supercharger, exhaust manifolds, wiring loom and engine control unit were designed and manufactured in Australia. The US Coyote engine had VVT on all 4 cams but the Australian ECU only had enough outputs to control 2 cams, so only the intake cams have VVT. The supercharger uses Eaton rotors in a housing designed by Australian company Harrop Engineering - the same company that provides superchargers to Roush Performance. Initial variants made 422 hp (315 kW), 402 lbf⋅ft (545 N⋅m) and 449 hp (335 kW), 420 lbf⋅ft (570 N⋅m). Later versions made 463 hp (345 kW), 471 hp (351 kW) and ultimately 648 hp (483 kW) (with the addition of an intercooler). The Miami variant was sold in the Australian Ford Falcon-based FPV GT range and the FGX XR8. The 648 hp (483 kW) version was sold in the Falcon FGX XR8 Sprint Holy Grail built by Prodrive.

"Miami" series Coyote v8's are seriously underrated, like 525whp by telling the ecu to completely open the electronic throttle underrated. Can't believe that the US market never got it.

I just checked the ad for this....it went $Au64,100 (last November).....a touch over $US42,000 at current exchange rates. Sounds like a bargain.

Ian, it might even be in the very last batch of Fords ever to roll out of Ford's Broadmeadows plant here in Victoria before it closed production for good, so that would make it a very special car indeed. Hats of to the person who has kept it in pristine condition, and who ever owns it now has a very special piece of Australian motor history.

I’ve got a regular fg mkii xr6 (na) and i love that car. Great chassis on those falcons, great engine (unless u want fuel economy 😭) pretty good interior for 2012. All round great car

I have the mk 1 FG FPV GT 315 5.4l. Seriously great car. The engines in FPVs are built in-house and share very little in common with John kept calling the GS a “coyote” but the engine was so different Ford allowed them to rename it the “Miami”. FPV never put a coyote in their cars.

Last bid on it was $64,300AUD but it could Referred (buy price wasn't met). We don't get Ford Falcon's here no more, we get Mustangs now. Holden Commodore also gone, VF Commodore was the last Australian made one, ZB/LT what ever it's called a rebadged Opel Insignia.

Remember, although our economy and country can weather many storms - we still have a poor exchange rate to overseas, generally So it's good for us to export rather than import. So, some of our imported American Ford and GM-H, engines, were based on cost and wether they would be long term durable ( durability and reliability, being 2 different things - durability being: how LONG a product can be reliable under stress ) - so the Coyote engine is a truck engine for durability and cost. Then worked. Some of the FPV engines were "hand-made here in Australia" - this being noted on the cam/rocker cover.

Ian this sold last November for a mere $aud64,100 which was about $us47,398 - a bargain I reckon

The 5.4l Ford Modular engine as put in the falcon was an absolute shitpiece and would start falling apart far too early if you wanted more power from it It was EXACTLY a Ford 150 v8 block with the mustang heads from the 4.6l modular and it was beyond garbage,the 4v edition's plenum could not fit under the hood meaning Ford marketing got to put the "power bulge" in the Xr8 and GT bonnets,this bonnet was not supposed to be nor was the shitty engine

i own the BA (Barra) FPV have since i was 16 I'm now 23, I fricking love the car mate! I would change the uni join being a two part and make it like com and have one whole drive shaft but aye! i can get under and fix her myself. Parts are still around can't complain.

I have a Felcon FG GT V8 supercharged 2014 last year made 450hp Black with white stripes

In the late 70's to early 80's, i had a 1974 Ford XB GS panel van that had the 302V8 (Cleveland) 4.9L engine that had a email/carter 4 barrel carby, borg warner 4spd top loader gear box, a 2.92 ratio diff. I lowered the front an inch and a half, had eagle wide 70 7" tyres on ROH 5 slot standard rims on the front, 10" Goodrich T/A radial tyres on 8" deep dish ROH 5 slot rims on the rear, along with custom made dual sports exhaust and tuned extractors, Armstrong 150psi air shocks on the rear. I designed and made an arabian style dual archway inside where the curtains would come out n recede from inside the archway, cupboards down eachside and a double bed mattress. I also had a custom made overhead console where my cb radio went along with all switches....i bloody miss that car as it had so much grunt, hanled brilliantly and was very economical for a v8

Sad state of affairs Australia has become in this arena. If only we were more open to exporting our cars and blocking out imports more often, these cars would have been a hit. From what I've seen, Americans love the Ford and Holdens that we produced.

Owned 6 ford barras and now have a 50th anniversary ford fg g6e mk1 turbo that ive probably spent from memory about 60k+ on and have done everything from big brakes, shockworx coil overs to which the owner of shockworx originally worked for fpv Australia in their suspension department, to a fully built engine and trans etc etc. I love this car to death and will never part with it, ill die before that happens and ill write it in my will so that it stays in the family 😂. Ive literally had people every so often walk up to me around town offering to buy it from me, which is just weird, lol. All I can do is wish that I could have this Falcon but no doubt it will sell for silly $$ money, but one of my cars I bought new is my FG XR6 and I will hang on to it as there is nothing on todays market that can that can replace the Falcon with its wonderful Barra engine and its Rear Wheel Drive!

Hopefully the previous owner didn't continue to take it to the dealer he got the plate holder from for servicing, Eclipse Ford Ballarat are terrible, we took our Territory to them for its first service and we'll never go back, it came home leaking fluids, with someone else's log book, who knows if they did the work for our car on the other person's car, it was fine before it went to them.

Yes if you want it you will need as a starting bid of at least 1 million dollars and probably finish bid of around 2.5 million - 3.0 million given it pedigree and only one in that colour colour and last one . It could go for even more it you put it at the same level as a original low mile Phase 3 Ford Falcon GT.

Originally the GS or Grand Sport option was aimed at people who wanted the GT image but didn't want the headaches it brought (huge fuel bills, cranky cold starts, etc, etc...). Forty years later and the only real difference between a GS and a GT was the state of tune - you'll notice the intake cover said 315, for 315 kW on tap. The GT from memory had 335, but that was before they came out with the GT-F and the Holy Grail where the numbers just went silly. To be honest though, if you can tell the difference between 315 and 335 kW you've got bigger things on your mind, like how you're going to talk to this unsmiling police officer. The last GS is a V8 Falcon with a third pedal and orange paint: that's all the car anyone could ask for.

I owned 2006 Tornado No 20 for 8ish years, also owned a GT500 engine swapped BF2 XR8 (bought it brand new, but was too slow) and now own a 1 of 1 FG2 XR6 manual (only other car with same options is an auto)

I've got a 2013 FG XR6 Turbo, I've only put a 4inch Dump pipe & Hi flow Cat with a 3.5inch stainless steel exhaust...Mate she flys

In the 70s the GS Ford Falcon’s only had the 302 4.9L The GT had the larger 351.5.8 Now this Gs is lower class to GT Badge name, this is a rare only one of that colour and a manual. It’s not an independent assessment obviously trying to get a good price for the sale of this car. In the older 70s GT Phase 3 there was one only in Rothman Blue for the Cigarette company resentful sold for big bucks only one made in that colour. Back to this model there could be another manual in this format with only one of a different colour being manual or automatic.

its funny the regular mk2 came out turbo just to keep up with the vy-vz commodore then vy calais brings out series2 with stock supercharged looks 100% better then fords 😁 mk2 and it sells for only 6-10 k and they close down and still win the market my calais would leave this thing seeing tail lights👍

Close friend has one of these on stands in an environmentally controlled box he built into the garage. Has like 500kms on the clock, so basically never driven from new. Original FPV plates :) Looks way better in real life :P

Sorry Ian, the boss 5.4 here in Australia was your 5.4L 3v mustang engine and we put the f150 lightning/Ford GT cylinder heads on the engine thus making it a “Boss” 5.4

Unfortunately there is no way I could afford it. It would be nice to have, but you can work your ass off for years and still not be able to afford a basic decent car like this.
